Our glass shop has been in the Village of Carlsbad for 25+ years. SGO, Stained Glass Overlay, Designer Glass, Johnny’s House of Glass and Today– Glass and Mirror Shoppe.

Business Owner

I have been doing decorative stained and leaded glass since 1981 with my beginnings in DFW TX. My passion of glass has proven the test of time, i.e., I am still in love with the magnificent colors and textures of stained glass.

Of course with just about any industry, one evolves and grows and today my knowledge of glass has expanded to flat glass and mirror. Corporate and small business arena is my experience in glass and this is the second studio I have owned in my career.

My studio is my pride and joy! Nestled in the quaint area of Carlsbad, CA, I am excited to continue the business from previous owner Paul Vander Ploeg.

We have two beautiful glass pieces in our home done by Penny. One stained colored glass of a hummingbird and flower one cut glass art panel. Everyone who comes in our home remarks on them. I treasure them and would not go to another artist for my stained glass or other glass needs. Beautifully made standout artwork by a nice, professional and honest person !

What a great shop! Penny has been in the glass business for over 25 years and really knows her business. She put in a heavy glass shower for us that is so beautiful! She also does stained glass and has stained glass supplies for sale. Anything to do with glass and mirror, go see Penny at Glass and Mirror Shoppe!

I accidentally broke a pane in my leaded glass window. I called many places to see who could repair it. Most glass shops won’t work on «art glass». I found 3 places that could repair it including Glass and Mirror Shoppe in Carsbad. Penny was great. I sent her a picture and dimensions and she said she would repair it with the same type of glass. One place said they wouldn’t use tempered glass in the replacement. Another place gave me an estimate but not what was included such as removal and temporary plywood. It took over a week because she had to order the glass but the replacement is perfect. Her contractor Marty was great as well.

Wow, this shop, small business is absolutely first class. They are great to the customers and the products they offer are top of the line. As importantly, they have a tremendous sence of customer service going out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. If you are in the market for and glass or mirror work, artistic pieces for your home, replacement, table tops, etc. you have to shop here.

Penny is an excellent business owner and creates some magnificent decorative glass pieces. She is always willing to go the extra mile to please her customers and create something that will have them in awe once they first lay eyes on it. This place is a little off the beaten path but is more than capable of handling all of your glass and mirror needs and any custom projects you are interested in!

Great shop! We needed a replacement glass table top for a patio table. The owner showed us a great selection of glass, at a great price, and even offered to make an appointment to meet is at the shop on a Saturday, when we couldn’t come any other time. The table top was ready by the next Friday and we are very happy with the result. I would recommend Penny and the Glass and Mirror shop for any custom glass work!
