My wife and I wanted to install solar and an AC/​heating upgrade in our home and lost count of the number of companies we spoke to. The information, quotations and overall vibe we got ranged from the good, the bad to the ridiculous!

Justin is extremely knowledgeable and only uses the best equipment and justifies everything they recommend. They were extremely competitive on price too, despite using high quality gear.

Last summer when our electric bill skyrocketed to $ 1500 for one month and with electricity prices still on the rise, we decided we were going to terminate our relationship with the SDG&E. Thus, began our intense search for a competent solar company that could install a cost-​saving system that would be properly and quickly installed and ultimately, save us money. After interviewing numerous solar company middlemen who lacked the knowledge to answer important questions, we stumbled upon a family-​run company, Carlsbad Solar.
Carlsbad Solar employees all demonstrated pride in ownership and were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The process began with an initial visit from personable owner/​installer, Justin Fox who was able to answer every question we presented. Justin helped design an efficient system calculating engineering costs and savings that would accrue. He even clarified the benefits of doing the installation via roof or ground mount. Furthermore, he provided a time-​line that would allow us to have a complete energy-​efficient solar panel system within two weeks.
It was a no-brainer…Carlsbad Solar was the company for us. Throughout the process the owners couldn’t have been more accommodating. They pulled all the necessary permits, consistently checked and re-​checked every step along the way and were easily accessible through-​out the entire process. Finally, after the system was completely installed, the owners came back and made sure that the existing tile roof looked just as good as it did before the installation.

This review is a little over due with the craziness of the holidays… but Justin and Jason (twin brothers) were great! Very friendly, professional, experienced and thorough in their work. We are very happy with our solar system and would highly recommend them!

I called on a Monday morning for a quote and questions. Justin came out same afternoon
we talked for a few, I wanted a experienced owner/​operator and he was it. I signed that day.
Waited the 3 days just in case I changed my mind. He started that Saturday. His brother (also a experienced solar installer) and Justin had the panels arrive on Wednesday and they finished Thursday. City inspector signed off Friday 10÷02÷15. Justin filled out all the paper work for SDGE and net metering. Today 10÷09÷15 I got the go ahead from SDGE to turn on system. Every time I called Justin he picked up his phone. Just awesome customer service, why anyone would go with a big company escapes me. Thanks Justin.

We were looking for a company that installs American made products and found Carlsbad Solar. Justin was very knowledgeable and was able to clear up some questions regarding micro and regular inverters that another company hadn’t been able to answer. They also knew all of the ins and outs of the Hero program which saved us a lot of time with paperwork.
Installation was quick and professional. Can’t ask for much more than that. I’d recommend Carlsbad Solar to anyone who wants family treatment and a local guarantee.

We received quotes from 3 companies and Carlsbad Solar was by far they best investment. Justin Fox is knowledgeable, upfront about the price and with you every step of the way. No «special deals» that end at midnight for this company! We got the best price, period. I talked to him for over an hour before finally meeting with him. He personally handled all the paper work and addressed all my concerns. He always kept me informed of the timetable of the installation, and inspection process. Carlsbad Solar installed my solar system 2 months ago and it was a quick, easy, informative and a smooth process. Justin was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, spent lots of time going over the different system options I had, the costs, the financing, tax rebates, start-​to-​finish process, etc. He is very attentive and responsive and was helpful from beginning to end, without being pushy at all. There was no pressure, just answers to my questions. He was also very familiar with the Hero financing program. When we decided to go for it, we wanted the entire installation up and running within days in order to be complete before we began a landscaping project, and Justin agreed, worked through an entire weekend and came through for us successfully. His work is professional and clean with all conduit hidden by running it through the attic and garage. Even recently he reached out to ask how we are liking our new system, and we do! We have received 2 SDGE bills since his installation and have credits towards our net metering, even with unlimited AC usage and running a Jacuzzi all summer. I was looking to get a solar system to offset my electric bill and my friend Maureen T. (see her review here too) recommended Justin and Carlsbad Solar.
Justin and his crew installed the panels in such a way that they’re only barely visible from the edge, and only from the yard. He hid the conduit and the inverter in such a way that it doesn’t even appear there’s a solar system installed — except by looking at the meter, which a month after the installation, is so far running a net negative. His crew also fixed some small roof leaks at no extra charge.
The job got done on time and as quoted, too.
Justin knows all the ins & outs of the HERO program, SDG&E’s net metering programs, and tax credits.
He’s also a general contractor and I hired him to advise on some other improvements I had in mind.

I was fed up with my mid-​century home a mile or so from the beach being hotter inside than outside! Having open beamed ceilings and no attic was most of the problem, but it was solved by Justin and Carlsbad Solar. I obtained a few bids, and discovered Justin not only lived in the neighborhood, but he was polite, knowledgeable, and gave me a most competitive price. He set me up with an excellent A/​C system and personally oversaw every aspect of the installation. One day it was 103 degrees in Carlsbad due to a freak tropical storm. Justin was on the roof, covered from head to toe in white and working away. He made a special trip to the hardware store to buy a can of paint that exactly matched my roof so the piping hardware was less noticeable. He is detailed and precise. It was my pleasure to go with this local company who has earned my respect.

We all get the bids, the pitch, and the price. Carlsbad Solar not only does that but has deep knowledge of the process from design to final SDGE turn-​on and everything in between. Ask them a question, you get the right timely answer. Those small items that you think they forgot about amidst all the main things they need to tend to. they come through. Service after sale… OK so don’t know that yet but other posters do, so I will look forward to nothing but a complete response and fix should something occur. And here’s something unique… a SD business that responds to their emails. Wow.

If you are considering solar, you really need to call Carlsbad Solar first.
First off, I am a very particular person (pain in the a$$). I easily spoke to a dozen solar installation companies when it was time for solar and to replace my old wood shake shingle fire hazard of a roof. Some were nice, some were knowledgeable, and some were used car salesmen. Justin came in and was responsive, informed, and was willing to solve a problem others said could only be solved with more $. In my situation, I was told I had to do this and I had to do that because of the limited ideal exposures on my roof. Justin was the only one who was informed and experienced enough to know the system’s capabilities and to know how to use variances to get the job done. His planning and attention to detail allowed us to hide all of the conduit and equipment for a clean install. His recommendation for a roofer to do the job was also spot on. In the end I have an incredibly efficient system that was very affordable and looks amazing.
It’s hard to find guys like Justin and Carlsbad Solar, but I just saved you a bunch of time, so it’s not hard at all!

We looked into a few companies for the solar on our Oceanside home. Carlsbad Solar not only answered the phone over the weekend while we were in town, but were very prompt in meeting with us. I purchased my solar system from Justin at Carlsbad Solar. I was very pleased with my experience from start to finish. He spent a lot of time educating me on solar, helping me find funding, and selecting the best system. Justin saved me from making a poor financial decision of leasing a system. Justin educated me on the benefits of owning versus leasing and I have been in the positive so far every month for energy produced, which means, I pay nothing. The lease I almost signed up for would have owned my energy and sent me a bill of over $ 150 per month, plus the bill I would have still been receiving from SDGE that they cannot guarantee the amount you may owe.
Once I purchased my system, Justin managed the entire project and needed little supervision from me. He managed all logistics for prepping my roof and left no stone unturned. Justin’s work is very thorough, detailed, and meticulous. He never left a mess for me to clean up during the project and he kept me informed throughout the entire process. He was also very considerate of time. Once we signed the contract his priority was getting my system up and running, so I could reap the benefits of solar production as soon as possible.
