My family and I are very happy with the care and experience we get at Vision Design. We’ve been getting our eye exams, glasses, and contacts here for over 3 years. Dr. T and her staff are very kind, patient, and honest.

I went to see Dr, T. a little over a year ago to find out if I had cataracts. My vision had slowly dimmed over time. My husband & friends thought that might be a possible explanation.
In the mid-80’s I had radial keratotomy; then again in early 90’s. This created considerable scar tissue on my corneas.
I explained this when I called to make the appointment and first thing when I met with the doctor. She acted like she’d never heard of it and brushed my concerns aside.
She said I did NOT need cataract surgery; that I was just beginning to develop them and that «she would tell me when I needed cataract surgery and refer me.» She told me I needed glasses and STRONGLY PUSHED me to buy progressive lenses.
A friend — who was also a patient of the doctor’s — had loaned me an old pair of her glasses that were not progressive lenses. Amazingly, they worked really well for me. I said I would prefer to buy a duplicate of those glasses.
The doctor acted very impatiently and as if she couldn’t understand my request. She kept pushing progressive lens. I said I was concerned about the scar tissue on my corneas, particularly the lower part of my eyes and KNEW the loaner glasses I had worked. She kept brushing my concerns away. She actually acted as if that could not be true. It was very strange.
I gave in and let her fit me in progressive lenses for a cost of $ 600+. When I received them, they gave me a headache and I simply couldn’t see well out of them. I wore them for three months because the doctor said «progressive lens take getting used to».
I gave up.
Thankfully, I mentioned my problem to my friend who is very, very kind. She said she would loan me her old glasses again and take my new pair back to the doctor because she was going in for a check-​up herself. She suggested I call and explain that I wanted them to duplicate her old lens and put them in my new frames. I did.
I was told the «office manager» had approved my request but that «this is it; we will make no further changes if these don’t work for you».
Well, they didn’t.
My friend GAVE me her old pair which did work very well. She has an inquiring mind and asked them why my new lens weren’t exactly the same. She was told the doctor sent mine to a different, CHEAPER lab.
So… May turned into summer. I sold my beautiful home in Marin and relocated to Medford, Oregon in early August.
After I got things organized in my new home, I decided to try to find a doctor up here who could help me with my eyes. My realtor referred me to a truly great doctor and humanitarian.
When I first met with him and mentioned that I had had radial keratotomy, he knew exactly what I was talking about and its importance. He told me he needed to examine my eyes thoroughly and, before you know it, had THREE DOCTORS examining me over the course of two hours. I didn’t know there where that many eye tests. BTW: My total charge was $ 150.
Long story short: He said I had severe cataracts, 4+ brunessence. He said I could NOT be fitted with glasses — and because of the severity of my cataracts, needed immediate surgery.
He referred me to the best cataract and corneal transplant surgeon in Oregon, possibly in the United States.
The doctor examined my eyes thoroughly — and I mean THOROUGHLY. He said I should never have been fit with progressive lenses. He said I needed immediate cataract surgery.
That is FOUR doctors who immediately arrived at the same conclusion: Cataract surgery needed, not progressive lenses.
I got the surgery and my uncorrected vision — NO GLASSES — is absolutely fabulous!!! I can see clearly! Colors are bright!!!
When I went to Vision Design Optometry I explained colors were muted and that it was as if I had sunglasses on all the time. I further explained that it seemed like I had really clear vision but couldn’t get enough light. I learned those are classic symptoms of 4+ brunessence, which means the lenses of my eyes had turned dark brown. 4+ is the most severe level.
This review took a long time to write but I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did for the past 14 months. I waited to wait to write it until my vision was restored because I wanted to be fair.
I am so extremely thankful I found great doctors up here that gave me my vision back.
I wish I had not wasted my time and money on Vision Design Optometry. I definitely do NOT recommend them for obvious reasons.

I’ve been on the search for a great Optometrist that takes Eye Med insurance and unfortunately this place fell short. I really wanted this place to be great because it is literally a 2 minute drive from my house, I like supporting local Campbell businesses and it had great reviews on Unilocal.
The optometrist (Dr T I think she said her name was) did not do a very good job of making me feel welcome, she was not warm or friendly. At one point she even exclaimed «wow you are seriously near sided…» This is something that I am very aware of and the whole reason I am coming in for an eye exam. There could have been more constructive words from the Dr.
The chairs in the reception area are VERY dirty with stains, they look like they have never been cleaned. The contact container that my optometrist gave me to put in my contacts was filled with dust…
The only good thing about this place was the receptionist. She was nice, had a personality and really tried to make me feel welcomed and appreciated as a patient.
I doubt I’ll be back unless I can’t find a better place that takes my insurance.

I’ve brought my glasses here 3 times in a row now. Affordable pricing as well as fashionable. Will come here again. :-)

I’m completely new to US and for the first time, I landed here. Dr. was so good that she explained me each n every aspect of my eye defects clearly. And the attendants gave me a lot of choices (frames) and suggested me which would fit and which would not based on my facial features and prescriptions, even though I took a considerable time to choose my option.
Really a good choice, if you are willing to go here for an eye test.

I have been going to Dr T for over 6 years and every visit is always a pleasant experience. Her highest priority is taking care of her patients. She is very honest
(whether it be good or not so good news), and thorough.
Im usually in for the regular eye exam. But never fail to buy glasses when Im eligible for coverage. But even off coverage year, I find myself coming back just to buy sunglasses. Vision Design has a great selection and even trendy frames so you can come out looking like a rockstar. Also, the staff is always helpful if you need suggestions on the latest fashion.
I live in Santa Clara, so luckily it’s not a far drive for me. But I would go out of my way to see Dr T!

I was in the area and needed a simple repair to my sunglasses. The technician examined the hinge and asked if I had bought them at their store. When I said no she claimed she needed a special tool to make the repair and couldn’t help me. I went to Costco Optometry dept. where they repaired them in less than 3 minutes, no special tool required.
Will never return, there’s plenty of helpful Optometry offices in town.

I came across this Optometry location because it’s really close to my work place. Thought I’d drop in during lunch and see if I can find a nice frame for my eye glass. The place felt very welcoming, the staff is friendly, I was helped right away once I stepped in. They had many selections, I probably tried on every pair there was because I’m pretty picky but never once I felt like the person that helped me, I believed her name is Linda. She’s this little petite sweet asian girl. She never gave me the «Annoyed Face» Instead she insisted for me to try on everything and gave me a feedback on every one of them that I tried on. I liked the honesty… some people would probably try to sell and get you out. She was very patience so I ended up buying the banana republic frames in which I love love love… I had to go back the second time just cause the sides of the ear was loose. I called and told her and she had me come back and she’ll fix it for me. Awesome service! I would definitely recommend to anyone to go to this location if you want great service, great quality and reasonable price.

Was looking for a good Ophthalmologist/​Optometrist because of a recent eye infection that flared up. My existing provider was «OK» but they’re three things that made me search for a new provider…
1. Location — I live in San Jose and the provider office is in Fremont
2. Hours — He’s in the office twice a week which was inconvenient for me
3. Methods — He’s very old school and can never give me a straight answer. Always sugar coat his explanations
My boss referred me to his provider «Dr. Orathay Thongsamouth «AKA DR. T. Let me say that my visit was very pleasant… «WOW»! Let me walk you through my experience…
— Arrived onsite with my pre-​filled form downloaded from their website and photocopied insurance card
— As I walk through the door, there were two beautiful assistance’s both greeted me immediately…“Hello Mr. V, how are you today?» — (So far good customer service!)
— Hand Christine my forms and she made a phone call to my insurance company which unfortunately was maxed out by my existing provider. She says not to worry since they are running a special on the exam ($ 49). She also stated when my benefits will be eligible — (Good to know!)
— Christine performed a few simple test to the eye before seeing Dr. T (Typical test)
— She did a Full Comprehensive exam of my eye after telling her my story of the infection. Not only she thoroughly checked out my eyes but doubled checked! (my current provider just quickly went through his test as if he was being timed for World Olympics
— She also measured my prescription strength on my current «3 month old» glasses and found out that they are out of whacked by 2 degrees comparison with her exam results. It’s very hard for an eye to change degrees that dramatically in 3 months!!! (SHOCKED)
— Dr. T explained everything for me (Tech Geek) and not once she sugar coat anything! (That I like — Got to the point)
— Prescribed my drops, both assistance’ and Dr. T said good bye and on my merry way back to work

I dropped in with my family one day after reading their sign off the street. I thought why not give them a try. The girls working there were great at explaing everything to us. The doctor was very kind and helpful. They went out of the way to give us excellent service.
The glasses came in fast and the cost was super!
Yeah, I found me a new eye doctor!

Went there for the first time to get my eyes checked. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant. Dr. T, Christine and Linda were all great and I recommend that place to anyone looking for a great pair of glasses with a super friendly staff. They were also a huge help in picking out my first pair of glasses. I’m sure I would have picked out something horrible without their excellent judge of class and style. =)

Dr T is the most genuine, friendly and well-​meaning optometrist I have ever met.
She tries to remember all her patients by name, and is extremely thorough during the check up and helpful with any questions you may have.
The high ratings on Unilocal are well-​deserved.
My only complaint is that the day I showed up for my appointment (opening time on a Friday morning), she was already helping someone, and another patient came in exactly the same time as I did saying they had an appointment at that time. It was almost like she was triple booked. I had to wait for about 30 minutes, but luckily between the paperwork and waiting it wasn’t too bad.

This place is great. They have a pretty good selection of glasses and have knowledgable people to help you. And if they don’t have the glasses you’re looking for, but you can find them in one of the glasses catalogs, they’ll order it for you without any charge so you can see the glasses for yourself.
Dr. Orathay Thongsamouth took the time herself to help us select the right pair of glasses and helped with the whole ordering process. She explained all our options and never pressured us to buy.
