Geared Fore Golf

I drove there today (Saturday) around 3pm and the store was closed. Called them and nobody answered. There were other people peaking inside and wondering why. The answering machine says they are only closed on Sunday’s and holidays. No signs saying they are closed temporarily etc. wasted gas to get here.

Bad Policy–
Received a gift for Christmas with the receipt. They refused to return it for me, said they would only credit the card it was purchased with. No wonder that there was no one in the store.

I hadn’t been to this place in a long time, needed new grips and thought I’d try here since I wasn’t too happy with the last job done elsewhere.
The guy offered to do them as I waited, but I had to be somewhere. Came back in an hour and they were ready for me and looked great.
New owner was there (explained that he recently bought an remodeled the store) and we spoke for a bit. Nice guy, very helpful. I will be back if I need anything else.

This is the place for shit buying great golf clubs very personable and friendly owner and great staff they really know what they’re doing highly recommend to go to this place to buy something and to learn more about golf and to improve your golf game fantastic experience thank you

Since the new owner barged his way into this great friendly store it’s gone down hill. Sure it looks more roomy and they have a proper hitting area with computer checking your stats. Other than that… meh!
Stay away on any days apart from Sunday. That way you’ll definitely get Mike. Mike is the only guy you’ll get some actual customer service from.
Too many shitty examples to mention of how the new owner involves himself in conversations and generally makes you feel unwanted as either an existing customer or a new one.
Guy has zero clues how to be in a customer service environment.

Thought I needed new grips on my clubs, so i stopped in at Geared for Golf. Brought my clubs in, and met with Scott Matacco, nice guy, lots of energy, and sincere about helping customers improve their game. After a review of my grips Scott told me I didn’t need new grips but helped me change my grip which made a big difference. I was tearing holes in my gloves in the fleshy part of my palm from the club twisting when I hit the ball. Now with my changed grip no more club twisting, or holes in my gloves, Thanks Scott !

New owner refuses to honor a gift certificate my wife gave me as a present.

Walked inside, store looked great and the employees were very attentive. But there was NOTHING available for left handers. No new sets to look at, and a «generic» club to hit on their mats.
The employee explained fitting etc. but it’s hard to decide between golf clubs when you can’t even hit what you would like to try.
I would have love to have brought them my business, but I’m not going to go to another store, hit the clubs that I want to try, and then come back to order them after getting fitted.
In a nutshell — provide SOMETHING for lefties!

LOVE. LOVE…LOVE this place. I just started to get into the game of golf and with baby steps found a really fun playground. Paul and Scott are two outstanding gentlemen that invite you in only to enjoy the game even more. Their knowledge and love for the game makes me want to come back again and again.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Soon it will be newly renovated with new merchandise to attract the ladies. Staff is on par and it’s a great place to give your clubs some tlc.

Terrible over the phone service. Never went into the store due to a condescending employee who answered. I was talked down to for not knowing abbreviations and special terms for high level equipment. Sorry I’m not a professional golfer.

I recently moved to the Bay Area and was recommended by a friend to check out Geared Fore Golf. I wanted some new irons and thought I would stop by and talk with them. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike there and explained my needs (I’m neither a beginner nor a pro) and there was no push to purchase anything but rather, lets watch you hit some balls and go from there.
For the next two hours it was more of a golf lesson of a few tweaks rather than «oh, you need this». I appreciate this kind of friendly help without any pressure to buy something. But I did end up buying the clubs I really wanted but additional time was taken to fit the clubs exactly for me, not something from off the self.
I have read other reviews here on Unilocal and I can also confirm that this is the kind of Golf Shop I’m glad to have found and will continue to use. The new owner, Steve, is also a cool guy and really seems to be investing in the store instead of just keeping it the same way.
If you are looking for a personal local Golf Shop instead of a big name box store, stop buy Geared Fore Golf and check them out.

Ran across this place on Unilocal and was amazed at the great reviews, so I decided to check it out. I’m a beginner golfer starting to get more serious about the game. Paul helped me out and he was great! Very attentive, asked about my game, how often I want to play, how serious I want to be, and most importantly my budget. He gave me about 45 minutes worth of lessons in their netted range and fit me for some new irons. I was using undersized clubs with grips that were too small. With the new clubs I immediately noticed improvement in my game and comfort in my swing.
Throughout the process I never felt pressured or rushed to buy anything. Paul even explained their club trade in program and I was very happy with the trade in value of my old irons. Extremely satisfied with Paul and his staff, and I will definitely be back for any golf needs I have.

After reading the wonderful reviews, I traveled from the City to this store to get a new set of golf clubs — as I plan to start playing again after five years. Paul was absolutely amazing. He met great recommendations, didn’t try to oversell me (really respecting my budget), and actually spent nearly an hour with me on my golf swing! He put together a great set (consisting of fantastic quality refurbished irons, great condition used woods and putter, as well as good value bag, balls, and head covers). He even refused to sell me new golf shoes — showing me how to replace the spikes on my old ones. He’s recently sold the business and the new owner was there too — super nice and excited about moving store forward — from greater to greatest. I’m excited to play again and I’ll definitely come back to the store as I need new gear. Great experience.

My fiancé and I came in to get him a set of clubs. Paul helped us out with both lessons and picking out the right set for him as a beginner. My fiancé wanted to go for a more expensive set but Paul set him up with a great starter set for a portion of the cost. He took about an hour mostly with my fiancé teaching him the basic foundation of the swing and various useful tips to practice. I also got a little lesson and for the first time picking up a golf club, Paul really helped me out. He even let me borrow a seven iron for three months without charge. We had a great experience! I recommend to anyone!

No pressure to buy, Mike improved my swing significantly. Will recommend this place to all my friends.

I’m rather new to the golf world but felt I needed to get into a better set so I can enjoy my self more. I was referred to Geared For Golf by a friend/​prior customer. We were greeted and treated like friends from the moment we entered. Paul took a little info from me and began with some ideas for my new set. It made me feel better knowing that he had the answers to the questions that I didn’t even think to ask. He gave me some great tips and told me to come back any time with questions or a free lesson. We need more places like this.

I came here for dome Christmas gifts for my boyfriend on the advice of one of his golf buddies. The staff here couldn’t be more helpful or nice. They answered my questions and were very knowledgable. I messed up and bought the wrong thing and almost immediately made a return. Easy, simple and done with a smile. My boyfriend LOVES his gifts and can’t wait to take advantage of the swing lessons they offer for free.

My husband brought me here today to get me fitted for clubs. I played golf in highschool & college & as a mom & woking full time golf isnt my priority but ive been able to play more. Mike helped me get fitted up for clubs & was v helpfu, guided us in the right direction with choosing the right clubs for me that would improve my game. I will definateky go back to mike for lessons & golf in general. Thanks mike for giving my husband & i an awesome experience!

I love this place. The guys that work here know their golf and will get you swinging the club better than you ever have. I went in for a fitting, which was a great process and fun, and wound up with a whole new perspective on golf. I will recommend this place to anyone who asks for a great golf shop.
The best thing I can say about Geared for Golf is that they truly seem to care about their business and customers. Nothing felt rushed or pressured and my fitting was all about my swing and my game, not what clubs they have in their bags on the tour.
