Business Owner

Steve Delorenzi is the CEO and President of SDI Insulation, Inc. His career in construction began when he was 17 years old working on U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships for American Bridge, U.S. Steel as a boilermaker at the Hunter’s Point shipyard in San Francisco. His second profession was blowing attic insulation into homes in the Bay Area. As a result of this endeavor, Steve’s interest in energy conservation took shape. Steve is now a Sustainable Living insulation contractor who has helped builders, city officials, building departments and building inspectors improve their understanding of how to construct sustainable living environments. He has more than 35 years of experience in the industry, and is also a San Francisco Residential Energy Conservation Ordinance Inspector (RECO).

After receiving a few estimates for new attic, floor, and wall insulation, it was easy to choose SDI. Their bid was right about where the other estimates I received were, however, the estimator and my contact for the job, Kris, was very courteous and professional, thorough in his estimation, he answered all my questions, and gave the reasons for his recommendations. Also when I had further questions, he was very quick to respond to me both via email and by phone.
Scheduling the work was easy and the crew showed up on-​time and did a good job. The attic and wall insulation crew were especially courteous. I’m not afraid to access the attic and crawlspace, so I went into those areas after the work was completed and confirmed they did a good job. I noticed they even added a little extra blown-​in insulation in the attic to burry the new ducts which was nice of them. I also noticed the floor insulation crew spray foamed a short uninsulated wall, which I forgot about and didn’t mention, so I was happy to see they took care of that.
SDI also took care of my paperwork to apply for the BayREN energy rebates which I appreciated.
I’m only taking away one star since it was not emphasized that we would need to be away from the house for 24 hours due to the strong scent of the spray foam. So it came of a bit of a surprise to us on the day of, and we had to quickly pack our things and get a hotel for the night.
Otherwise, we had a great experience with SDI.

SDI Insulation did an amazing job on our recent home remodel. Not only were we happy with the finished product, their customer service is outstanding as well. When our general contractor did not pay their bill as he was obligated to do by nature of our contract, SDI’s accountant, Christina, worked as a mediator between us and our contractor’s bookkeeper to get the issue resolved. It was a very stressful situation but Christina was such a comfort to work with and was very proactive in getting this taken care of. She definitely made her client’s needs a priority. I truly appreciate all her efforts, and hope this review will help others know that they are in good hands with SDI Insulation, Inc. Thank you Christina! Happy New Year.

They arrived on time. They took great care to protect the carpet with thick plastic sheets. They removed the old insulation and put in new one in a professional way. Their fees are reasonable.

Found out about SDI from a neighbor who had wall insulation blown in during his major house renovation. I had them come out for an estimate. Found Dennis to be knowledgable and forthright about my house’s needs. Estimate was fair, in line with market. I hired them to blow in fiberglass insulation into the walls of my 50 year old ranch’s master bedroom. The crew was on time (actually early for the 8am appointment — never happens), clean, respectful and efficient. I had them come out for the remainder of the house which they completed with equal efficiency and competence. I recommend them without hesitation.

I have been using Steve DeLorenzi and company for blown-​in insulation and for compliance with the San Francisco Residential Water and Energy Compliance Ordinances for over three years. Steve and his team have done over 30 jobs for me and I have always found them to be very professional, prompt, and cost effective. In my history using them they have never dropped the ball on missing a job deadline and are the most reliable for making sure you don’t miss your Close of Escrow deadlines and requirements regarding SF RECO.

I called SDI to do a fireplace insert. I had a tight time line, but Joe (fireplace expert), told me that they could get it done within my time constraints. SDI promised to email me, same day, the information needed to order the insert, but they didn’t send the information, nor did they respond to my voicemail messages, nor did they respond to my email requests. In parallel, based on input from SDI, I hired an electrician and chimney cleaning service to prepare for the work. When SDI failed to follow through, I began searching for another option, which fortunately I found. Moral of the story… I wouldn’t trust a company who fails to do what they say they will do.

Wow! I have spent the last year doing a complete renovation of my home. Brett Delorenzi of SDI has guided me through this whole process of spray foam insulation, unventing my roof, and sound proofing my duplex. I do know a little about spray foam and Roxul insulation, but Brett literately took me to the next level on how Closed Cell Spay foam insulation and Roxul can work in concert. We did flash and batt in the laundry room, so no sound or cold comes into my upstairs apartment. Roxul (AFB) Acoustical Fire Board in the ceiling in the basement apartment to fire and sound separate the two apartments. We now have a very safe, very quiet, and warm duplex thanks to SDI!
The customer service has been phenomenal. Because of the rebuilding process I’ve had to reschedule my spray foam installation over six times. Marcella (i hope I am spelling it right) has be an absolute rock of understanding in scheduling my installations, so courteous. On the job site SDI employee’s were super efficient, clean, and meticulous in getting that closed cell spray foam everywhere I had requested.
If you want insulation done right, this is the company you call in the Bay Area!

Very honest company with reasonable pricing. Extremely competitve within the current market place. I went with the attic air sealing package to coincide with the blown-​in fiberglass, that I was in dire need for, because my home was hotter than an oven on sunny days. After the install was complete, it was like my house was a whole new home.
This is a family owned company, I met the owner one time & he was warm & good to his employees, so I felt comfortable that they are happy and therefore would do a good job at my place. I would recommend this business to anybody that is not comfortable in their home, during the winter and summer!

SDI is consistent, I’ll tell you that much. I got my solar panels through them and after completely forgetting about me, they finally stepped up. I also arranged to get my fireplace from them (fool me once-​shame on you, fool me twice-​shame on me!) I started this process in December. It is now August. Part of the delay was my fault-​but as of May all prep work was completed by me. The fireplace was measured yet again and a new, more expensive insert was charged to me. I was told it would take a month for the insert to arrive. A month came and went. No word. I called. I was told it would be looked into and I could expect a call the next morning. The next morning, in fact, the next whole day came and went-​no phone call. I called again. ‘Oh, the day got away. I’ll let you know.’ The insert was supposed to arrive today. I waited all day-​no phone call, no word, nothing. I chose SDI because they are a Diamond Certified Company. I think I may be certifiable– to use them twice and receive the same poor service each time.

Just replaced my roof and wanted to replace any worn/​inadequate insulation at the same time. SDI’s Pamela Martin was great to work with. Honest, a real advocate, and was willing to come by after hours to work with me. They worked well with the roofer and showed up when they were supposed to. They did not recommend any work that was not needed, encouraging me to keep existing insulation in one part of the house. I can notice the difference already with the new insulation. Great job, SDI!

Great experience with SDI; would highly recommend spray foam. It almost works too well.
I just had SDI install spray foam under my hardwood floors and have noticed a huge difference in the temperature in my home. The hardwood floors in the living room and bathroom tiles are no longer cold in the mornings and it feels like the house retains much more heat. To top that, their customer service was fantastic and prices very comparable (if not slightly better then other companies that I called).
Background
After I moved in (about 1 year ago), I learned that my hardwood floors are built on top of the joists (no subfloor). This meant that the cold air would come up through the cracks between the floor boards. During the winter, my heater would continuously turn on and lose the warmth through the boards.
I read up online and learned its possible to insulate the floors. After some research on Unilocal,SDI came highly recommended. Pam, from SDI came out a few days later and gave me two options 1) spray foam or 2) regular batt insulation. There wasn’t a huge difference between the two prices and she explained how much better performance I’d see from the spray foam. I’ve had the insulation installed for about 3 weeks now and notice that the house retains the heat much better.
I can’t wait till the winter to test out the new insulation
Customer Service
I wanted to separately call out their customer service. Pam and her team were fantastic. They came out exactly at 8am as scheduled and were super friendly and explained the process in full to me. After the project was completed, I noticed that some of the spray foam came through a small opening in one of my closets. I emailed Pam on Friday night and she responded immediately and scheduled time with Gary to fix the problem. Gary was also very friendly, came in and resolved the issue for me.
Recommendation:
If you are thinking about insulating your home, I highly recommend SDI because of the great their great performance and excellent customer service. I think its one of the best decisions I made going to them.

A friend referred SDI Insulation for improving the insulation in my townhouse and they did a pretty good job.
After the initial call, an estimator came to my place with couple of days. She was thorough, answered all my questions. She sent me the estimate within few days, and the amount seemed competitive.
I was able to schedule work for a day of my choice and SDI called me a day prior to confirm the date/​time. On the scheduled work day, the crew was punctual, respectful of my house, quick with their work, allowed me to inspect and answered any questions that I had.
I was able to pay with credit card over the phone and a receipt was emailed to me within an hour.
I definitely recommend SDI insulation for their professionalism, competitive rates and expertise in the insulation work.

We need some new insulation installed in the garage and the laundry room. Adam came out and gave me a bid. The price is competitive with spray foam and fiberglass bats. He also is very patient in answering all my questions. The scheduler was able to squeeze our spray foam job in within a couple of days which is great. The crew did a good job to cover the area and cleanup afterwards. I am very pleased and will definitely recommend them to others.

SDI just completed my advanced energy upgrade which included retrofit wall insulation, removal of old attic insulation, install of open cell foam in the attic, air sealing and window replacement. From the beginning customer service was top notch and definitely a priority. Francisco, who managed my project from day one was extremely informative and responsive.
Install went extremely smooth. One day for insulation removal, two for spray foam and one for wall insulation. All crews were on time and left the house as clean or cleaner than when they left. They even spackled some cracks in my drywall from Napa’s August earthquake for no other reason than because they were already doing the insulation holes so why not.
Best part is I’m receiving $ 5400 back from BayREN and PG&E covering about a third of the whole project cost including my nine new windows.

I’ve used SDI several times now — a couple of times last year and once this year.
The five stars are not for the company, but their employees who came out to my place to do the work. First, there is Joe S, who takes a look at the property and estimates the work. He responds to e-​mails at 6am. I don’t know of any other who is as responsive and as patient.
Then there are the J&J brothers, Jamie and Julio, yes, they are brothers really. They came ahead of time, slogged for 8 hours without a break, except a few minutes for lunch and left the place spotless, completed vacuumed, wiped down and leaks plugged.
The reason I am a fan of J&J, is that they went the extra mile. Jamie brought out insulation to cover the sides of the bare wooden walls of the area where my water heater is. When I mentioned that the water heater was due to be replaced next week, he left me additional rolls to be used before the new water heater went into place in areas that he could not reach. If that is not going the extra mile to watch out for a customer, I don’t know what is.
