These guys are the best. I ordered shutters from them in the summer — when they were ready to be installed, I discovered my double-​paned windows had failed. Had to get new windows. SF Shutters recommended Alexander Windows in Burlingame & everything went smoothly. SF Shutters KINDLY delayed installation & stored my shutters till the windows were installed.
The shutters are PERFECT — installed professionally. Everybody at SF Shutters was kind & understanding — a real pleasure to work with.

Bar none one of the worst businesses I have ever worked with. I plead anyone not to even consider SF Shutters as a possibility. Shutter companies are a dime a dozen and I would advise anyone to go elsewhere before wasting your time here.
My wife and I spent over $ 16k on shutters for our home, only to have them made redundant by $ 20k in new windows we had installed. Our builder offered to reimburse us for new shutters, but SF Shutters would not answer my wife’s phone calls, our builder, myself or anyone else for that matter in our attempts to have new ones made.
After repeated failed attempts visiting their showroom in person, talking to Gino and trying to get Ted to respond, we finally gave up and went to more reputable companies. Their ’50% off sale’ is a total scam and nothing but a scheme to acquire new business from unsuspecting customers. At all costs, please be forewarned and take your business elsewhere.

SF Shutters did all our windows in our Mission Terrace condo, and subsequently did the windows in our Parkside/​Sunset home. The fit and final result in both homes were/​are outstanding. SF Shutters is meticulous in their pre-​order measurements, and in the actual fitting. Their installers are careful, considerate of the home, and highly professional in their workmanship.
It was important that the shutters’ color and finish match the the original trim, installed circa 1925. SF Shutters patiently supplied numerous samples until a match was determined.
After the shutters were manufactured, but before they were installed, we determined it necessary to first replace all the windows in the house. SF Shutters graciously stored our shutters until the windows were ordered, manufactured and installed.
Five of the windows are crank-​operated casements. SF Shutters carefully modified their shutters to accommodate the crank handle. Cabinetry quality.

I had interior wood shutters installed in my home and I’m pleased with SF Shutters. This is a family owned business and they take a lot of pride in they work. Wayne came out and gave me an in-​home estimate. Their price was very competitive compared to other estimates we had gotten. Wayne’s son Ted came out about a week later and took precise measurements and helped us pick a style/​size/​color options. It took about 6 weeks lead time for them to build the shutters. The installation was flawless. 2 guys working together spent about 30 – 45 minutes per window making sure everything was perfect. They did an excellent job caulking around where the frame meets the wall and over the nail holes. They laid down a drop cloth on my wood floor before putting their tools down and they cleaned up their mess before they left. I am very pleased with my purchase and will be using them again if I every move to a new home.

SF Shutters has been so disappointing! I ordered louvred doors for our bathroom mid-​September. Both Wayne and Ted were very nice and seemed to be customer centered. When I hadn’t heard anything by mid-​November I called and spoke with Ted. I told him we were leaving for several months on Dec. 12 and he promised the doors would be delivered and installed before we left. Heard nothing more. When we got back last week, I called again, spoke with Wayne who is the owner. Doors had been delivered to them on Jan. 20. No call from them. No apology for how long this all took. He blamed it all on the factory they use. Doors got installed yesterday. They look fine but work still needs to be done on the door frame — filling in and painting. No offer at all from SF Shutters to do this.
Use Home Depot for shutters or louvred doors — much more reliable.

Completely painless. They showed up when they said they would, they didn’t waste my entire day pretending the process was more complex than it was, they measured, we quickly picked out colors, they told me how long it would take, it took that long, they installed in less than ½ a day, shutters look FANTASTIC, super happy. Don’t waste your time dealing with another company. They’re slightly more expensive, but worth every penny. Lastly, they are only company I was able to find that will install exterior shutters. So nice not to have to hire a contractor. :)

It has been said that you can judge a seller by how handles a purchaser after the money is paid. My original purchase from SF Shutters was in December of 2012 and I can state that entire process was A+. I had a problem with one panel this spring and I called and expressed my issue. The gentleman on the phone said fine we will have someone stop by when we are in the area. Within two weeks someone stopped by and fixed the problem. This is SERVICE and at no CHARGE over two years after the original purchase.

After what initially was a very bad experience with service and the workmanship of the shutters, Wayne (the owner) ultimately was able to make everything right and then some. Going forward, I am confident that anyone using their services will have a great experience. Thank you Wayne and the folks at the Burlingame showroom for going the extra mile and showing what a fantastic company you are.

Extremely unsatisfied with the shutters. We ordered shutters for 3 large windows and were installed with a large sag in the middle of the frame. And the shutter slats are literally crooked. Not sure if the issue is poor installation or bad craftsmanship. They were installed on a Wednesday and when we called about the problem, they said the earliest they can have someone to take a look is the following week. I’ll be updating this review when they finally come out to take a look at the problem.
UPDATE: Another installer came out and admitted the shutters were crooked. But, he had to come back another day because he didn’t have the right tools to take off the shutters!!! How can an ‘professional’ installer not have the right tools? So, he said we’ll get a phone call about an another appointment. Well, we never got the phone call and we had to call them instead. Up to now, no apology from any one from the company about the situation. So, we have to wait another week for the crooked shutters to be removed, fixed (if possible) and reinstalled. Absolutely ridiculous. Zero sense of urgency. In fact, we just found out a neighbor is about to use San Francisco Shutters and we’re going to tell them «DON“T DO IT!»

We were in the market for shutters for our home. We did our reach and I had another company quote — whoa! wow! I was shocked at the sticker price for non-​wood shutters. (Really? I could buy a car for that price!) But I continued calling around and landed on San Francisco Shutters. Wayne came to my house, measured my windows and quoted me a lower price for wood! Swoon! Wayne was very professional, as was his son who did the final measurements and color recommendation. Plus the installer was wonderful. I love my shutters. I would use San Francisco Shutters again!

Beautiful! I got quotes from two different companies. Both companies manufacture their shutters from American wood in Southern California. San Francisco Shutters were much more competitively priced. Add to that, they were punctual, courteous, and efficient throughout. The installed shutters are top-​quality and look superb.

These shutters are the best value for your dollar anywhere! They do everything perfectly and the shutters are of the highest quality. Their shutters make a room stronger architecturally… and the options for filtering or blocking light with them, make the shutters a joy to own. So much better than curtains that collect dust and mites and are hard to clean. These never go out of style and are simple to dust… This family company strives to deliver the best service and products, because they really care!
Have installed these shutters in 3 houses I’ve owned and every time I hesitate about the cost but the day they are in, I realize that nothing else comes close to delivering such beauty and function.

We are very happy with the shutter we got from SF shutters. Wayne did an excellent job addressing our needs and giving us our options, Ted’s measurements were perfect for how we wanted the shutters to operate, Steve did an outstanding job installing them and Gino’s customer service and follow through was excellent. They are so nice that we’ve decided to put them in the rest of the house. We couldn’t be happier.

This is the first time I’ve given a review on Unilocal.This is the first time I’ve felt strongly enough to do so! We absolutely LOVE our shutters from San Francisco Shutters! We wanted a ²⁄₃ bottom and ¹⁄₃ top split (café style). This is for our bedroom, which is in the front of the house at ground level, so privacy is a big issue. We almost went with another company, but he didn’t quite «get» how we wanted it split and was going to leave a gap. We also had an inexpensive company estimate, but could tell he was not going to be able to make them the way we wanted.
As we talked with SF Shutters and explained what we wanted (the ¹⁄₃ split on top) and that we needed to have privacy, he totaly understood. They offered this option with a little piece that «interlocks» so there is no gap between the two sections.
We took a leap of faith and went with SF Shutters. So glad we did! They came in and measured, which was a bit tricky as we have low ceilings and a beam running right above the window. Different wall levels had to be accommodated. They had to custom cut the back side of the shutters to fit the different levels on the wall and did a perfect job! I still can’t believe they measured for that and when the shutters were delivered, they fit right in! Amazing! Guess you’d really have to see our walls to fully appreciate the skill, but we were very impressed. That reminds me. The man that did our install was fantastic too! He did a great job and made sure it was right before he left. Very nice, professional man.
The shutters are such nice quality! Nice, solid feeling. Not like those light-​weight cheap other types. Excellent paint quality. Nice, quality feel when using them. Just can’t say enough, but if we ever need shutters again, we are definitely going back and highly recommending them to all family and friends. So glad we made the right decision!

SF Shutters installed shutters throughout my condo. 8 years ago and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
I knew nothing about shutters when we placed the order, but I did know that I had to have two things: (1) I wanted my shutters split on each side so that I could leave the top ¹⁄₃ open when the bottom ²⁄₃ was closed, and (2) I did NOT want the top ¹⁄₃ to be separated from the bottom ²⁄₃ by a bar (which is what you usually see when shutters are split).
I was adamant about not wanting that bar.
Wayne did the initial measurements, described my options and answered all of my questions. Wayne got what I was saying about the bar and was very clear about the drawback of doing what I wanted, so that there were no surprises.
The install was so fast that I was shocked. One morning I had bare windows; a couple of hours later, all my windows were covered with gorgeous shutters that still look perfect 8 years later.
Notably, the finish is so strong that these shutters have withstood years of being clawed at by psycho dogs. Although you can see nail marks, the dogs have been unable to remove the paint or the finish and not a louvre has been cracked. THAT is quality work.
Not only do I love my shutters, my good friends love their SF Shutters, AND the company even managed to please my mother, who had them do her house. My mother is almost impossible to please, so this is a huge accomplishment.
Sadly, when I did my new house 6 ½ years later (in December 09), I went with another company (Danmer — they suck, see my review), who told me a bunch of lies about SF Shutters’ recent work, which I stupidly believed. HUGE MISTAKE. I should have known better. I should have gone with the guys who did me right the first time. But I was a fool and paid dearly.
SF Shutters does not need to lie about the competition to get the job. Their work speaks for itself. I will never hire another shutter company.

I wouldn’t use them again. From reading the current reviews this makes sense to me. If everything goes well customers are thrilled. But… if there are problems they just don’t want to deal with you. Our shutters were installed with some obvious problems. When I pointed them out to the installer he sheepishly replied, «I know I thought that was strange». The shutters had 3 obvious problems and he replied the same to all. He took them down and back to the shop and said I’d get a call.
At the end of the day I called and the guy who answered the phone, (Gino, I think), actually seemed perturbed that I called. I called back each day for the next three days expecting to talk with the salesman, (or someone who would at least express some regret), and he seem even more perturbed. I never heard from Wayne the Father who sold them or Ted the son who measured. My wife got a call when they were ready to install. We had them installed. They’re OK but I certainly wouldn’t brag about them. I supposed that they were covered with dust didn’t help.
Bottom line… I would never recommend them or use them again. They don’t appear to have any quality control system and worse their follow up on problems is as poor as their customer service attitude.

Ted is one of the Best

San Francisco Shutter Company did some work for me in 2006.
When I bought my house, I had plantation shutters on every window except one…
I wanted to keep my exhisting shutters, but add new trim to match the remodel I was doing.
ALL of the other shutter companies declined the job, told me it couldn’t be done, or tried to tell me I needed all new shutters for everything.
San Francisco Shutter Company removed my old shutters, painted and completely refurbished them. They then installed custom trim pieces… The one new set of shutters I bought perfectly matched my old and refurbished shutters.
It’s no secret that plantation shutters aren’t cheap, but their prices were in line with other places.
I couldn’t be happier. I called ALOT of companies to try to get quotes… SF Shutter Company was the only one who was willing to do the custom work and didn’t try to upsell me…
Their final product is fabulious and all their employees were great to work with.
I would highly recommend the San Francisco Shutter Company.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I will never do business with this company again and would warn anyone away from them.
While the «seller» (Wayne, the owner) came and did his part of selling the deal, the follow through by his son was awful. We ordered two custom-​sized shutters and both came with problems: the paint was dinged, the hinges installed on the wrong side, and finally, they didn’t even fit into the window frames. This was the fault of both the father and son, but Wayne would never return my call, and his son barely took an interest, let alone responsibility. The installer, on the other hand, was a wonderful, patient man.
