The Platform

The Platform is professional, friendly and inviting. When you come in for the first time, these wonderful ladies won’t let you feel like your a nobody who has to earn the respect of the staff. On the contrary, they welcome you into an environment that is both positive and constructive. It is somewhere where you can grow and create relationships and not simply brood in a competitive environment full of ego, because let’s face it, there is plenty of that everywhere else.
They respond in a timely fashion and do their best to work with conflicts you might have. Most other workshop/​casting venues will be happy enough to take your money. The Platform wants you to be happy with the investment you choose to make.

This «studio» has really crummy customer service and is preying upon wannabe actors. Actors — you know how expensive, hard, cold and full of rejection this town is! And here is yet another bottom-​of-​the-​barrel low-​feeder milking poor struggling actors for all they can. Run far far away from this place!
My story: I had a family obligation (caring for my sick 82-​year old father) and could not attend a free workshop they offered that I signed up for online (originally thinking hey, that’s cool, I’ll check this place out, neat!). There was no way to cancel the «online only» reservation I made when I had to take care of my Dad, and this business was not reachable via phone. And well, it did not matter anyway, because they decided to get back to me a day and a half after I politely emailed them about my situation and conveniently by then it was «too late» then to cancel out of the «free» workshop without penalty.
BEWARE — they have absurd policies — and they WILL charge you money, yes charge you money, for a free workshop you do not attend because your father is dying. Awesome!
Furthermore, they are not amenable or kind to deal with. I would not recommend them to anybody. There are a million workshop companies in this town that are sweet, kind, and caring for actors in a town that’s ruthless enough. This ain’t one of em.

The Platform offers a nice array of CD and Agent workshops that are reasonably priced. The space is small, which leads to a great one on one session with the people you are really there to meet and network with. Keep up the great work ya’ll!

I used The Platform for a self-​tape in October and had a very smooth experience. The reader was solid, was happy to discuss choices with me for different takes, and took the time to make sure the lighting was just right. I also got the link to my takes very quickly (within a couple of hours) which was great. The price was very affordable, and flexible so you can choose how much time/​money you want to spend even on the spot. Nice, solid experience.

I’ve used the PlatformLA for self-​tapes a number of times. They accommodate quick turnarounds and last minute requests. The self-​tape session itself doesn’t end until you are satisfied with your performance (however, you can tape in as few as 15 minutes if you are on a budget). The best part is your «tapers» double as coaches and really work to get the best performance out of you. They are actors themselves and great off-​camera readers. Lighting makes you look amazing as well, and they will even stop a take to fix your hair. Oh, and it gets better. To save your agents or a CD time, they mail your reps/​CDs a private link – one link– with no password protection. That means you don’t have to worry about a busy office overlooking your submission because they have to click a bunch of windows and punch in passwords. Quick, easy, professional! This is THE PLACE to do your self-​tapes this pilot season.
