Shugabees Texas BBQ

Great BBQ stuffed into a homemade tortilla! Fills me up every time. If I don’t want brisket or pork, I’ll go for the smoked chicken salad. The only thing I would add is some kind of green to into the tortilla, maybe spinach leaves or something.

The brisket is delicious, and I was surprised by the fabulous wrap in the homemade tortilla. I am usually not a fan of flour tortillas, but this one was like a yummy soft crêpe. And the sauce is perfect — a little bit spicy but not too much, and the sweetness was perfect pitch.

The food was great. I had the brisket and sausage with jalapeños potato salad. My favorite part was that awesome tortilla that wraps the meat.

Visiting from Massachusetts years ago was told about this place from a texas resident. …now being lucky enough to live here we can’t get enough of this place. Best tortillas, meat made perfectly. Sauces delicious. Don’t have a single request for improvement.

I had the smoked chicken salad and absolutely loved it. It was very flavorful and after half of the ¼ lb I was stuffed. Everything else was fantastic also. We passed everything around there wasn’t a bad meal. The chocolate pudding was also amazing. It was creamy and rich. Would definitely come back.

Good. The mix didn’t have enough lean brisket. The tortillas were amazing. And then our table collapsed.

Brisket was tender and flavorful– can get it sliced lean, marble or mixed. Pork was also very good, very tender. BBQ sauce was good. Get the spicy orange honey for the pork on the side– it’s great for dipping the homemade tortillas in. Oh, yeah– gigantic homemade tortillas wrap everything in a blanket of yumminess.
Jalapeño mustard potato salad was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. Regular potato salad was really good.
After the Brisket, the star is the Banana pudding. It’s probably the best banana pudding I’ve ever had. Nilla wafers on the bottom were just soft enough, the one on top just crunchy enough. The pudding was light and creamy, with homemade whipped cream on top. So, so good.
Definitely will be stopping here again to eat some great BBQ outside.

Bbq is top notch! The banana pudding is outrageous it’s a must have. Don’t forget the tortillas they are fantastic! Great spot and the food is perfect hill country bbq!

The brisket was pretty good. They wrap in a homemade tortilla (which is unique) and comes with well flavored hot and spicy sauce. The pork wasn’t bad either. The pork was also wrapped in tortilla and was smothered in a homemade sauce that was very much like thousand island dressing with a twist.
Bottom line, if you’re in the area and in the mood for something different, stop by.

There’s no way on earth I would’ve heard about this food truck if it wasn’t for Unilocal,and oh boy am I glad I did! Those tortillas are out of this world. Felt like he baked them on the spot for us. the meat… Even better. We had the brisket and the chopped beef, both were phenomenal — fresh and flavorful. the banana pudding was really good and a perfect ending for this celebration in my mouth. Good stuff!

First time having Texas BBQ! After finishing the Ragnar Austin relay race, we stopped for lunch. Amazing!!!

WOW! I just ate some of the best beef brisket I have ever had. I pass this place on my way to work every day and decided to finally give it a try. The brisket was delicious and being wrapped in a fresh homemade tortilla made it the perfect road food. I’m not much for BBQ sauce on my brisket but their BBQ sauce was great to dip my brisket tortilla in on alternating bites. I sampled the sausage, the pork, and the chicken salad. All were incredible and I’ve never been a fan of chicken salad but I will be back soon for a full helping of it. This place is a BBQ Heaven! Can’t wait to come back with family and friends. Being a transplanted Hoosier here into Central Texas, I always am looking for the best of the area to show off to out of town visitors from Indy.

Incredible gem! We are from Dallas down here for a wedding and found this place. Brisket is tender and amazing, the homemade tortillas are heaven and the homemade sauces are a welcome compliment. The chicken salad was unique and refreshing. Wish we had this in Dallas, I might try to hitch them to the back of the car and take them with us.

Shugabees is back in Buda! Absolutely one of the best brisket tacos in the entire state of Texas! Do not forget to get some of their jalapeño potatoe salad… so happy they are back!

This is a Food Truck, with great BBQ.
I prefer the sliced brisket. They serve their sandwiches using a large flour tortilla. Well worth the stop.

On our way home from San Antonio, pulled over and we were right across the street from this place. Based on previous reviews, tried it out.

Great chicken salad from a BBQ food truck? Absolutely! We also had an excellent brisket taco (mixed cut) with a side of the jalapeño potato salad. The potato salad was very good, but I expected more heat than was present.
The banana pudding was awesome and we’ll definitely be back.

Some of the best brisket in Austin. Great flour tortillas. The other meats are on point too. The owner was working the trailer and he couldn’t have been a more friendly and nice guy. Offered samples of everything.

This barbeque melts in your mouth, the brisket is my favorite. Full of flavor and very juicy, my second favorite is the smoked chicken breast chicken salad, I can eat that on anything, but the homemade tortillas are the best. Last but not least is the banana or chocolate pudding, it’s a must have.

This is decent, roadside barbecue especially while waiting for the Jiffy Lube next door to finish your oil change. Great business model!
That being said, I thought my smoked pork was a little dry and the jalapeño potato salad was pretty standard fare.
The sauces, however, are phenomenal. Personally, I prefer pork sauces to have a little vinegar in them so the mustard chipotle wasn’t exactly my speed for this cut of meat. The fiery habanero, however, was a great accompaniment to the brisket. And they also have a honey habanero sauce that would be perfect on some fried chicken if they started serving that.
I’ll be back sometime to pick up a bucket of their sauce.

The Bottom Line: BBQ good from a food truck… At a car wash? You can’t miss this.
As other have mentioned, Shugabees is so much fun and the service is great. I love the idea of using a home-​made tortilla. Just perfect for the brisket and pork that I tried. Left with a huge smile on my face. I just wish that they hadn’t run out of sausage… Oh well, there will have to be a next time.

Top notch place for bbq in S. Austin. The meats are awesome and well smoked. Served on a homemade tortilla. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

The brisket is great. I had it with the hot sauce. There was the right amount of fat, making the brisket the right amount of juicy.

Had the brisket, pulled pork, chciken salad and sausage. All were good but pulled pork was my favorite. Food and service was great. Vic was very friendly. Wish they had meat only on the menu instead of being wrapped in a tortilla.

Shugabees has the best smoked pulled pork taco with a yummy mustard base sauce. You have to try it the meat is very moist and not overly smothered and the home made tortilla is the bomb.
Their lean brisket Taco’s are fantastic I give it 5 stars and a nice cold Dr Pepper to go with it.

Came in wanting brisket. Got samples of everything. It was all amazing but had to switch to pork. Absolutely the best BBQ I’ve had in Texas

Food was excellent! The jalapeño potato salad is delicious! All the different sauces they have are very interesting and not to mention absolutely delicious! Will definitely be back for more!

I’m from California so I guess you could say I’m not from around here, but I loved this spot. Cool guys working there, give plenty of free samples, and THE BRISKET is pretty darn good

Outstanding barbecue from out of the way food truck. The banana pudding the best we ever ate. Sat outside under oak tree. Texas nirvana. Bring your own beer.

Ah, man… how much fun was this?
After last night’s pulled pork debacle and a bit of ranting on social media, someone recommended this place. So off I went, for one thing. No brisket, sausage, or any of the usual Texas awesomeness. I wanted smokey, dead hog. I’m pleased to say two hours later, that my hands still smell of charred wood — finally a place not afraid of smoking the oink out of a pig.
In and of itself, the lack of really good pulled pork in the Austin area is kind of fascinating to me. Pork is so «in» around here these days. You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting some cook or chef with a tattoo of a pig (sorry, I hate to be the one to break it to any of y’all that it isn’t all that novel anymore, though the dedication is still appreciated). Yet you can swing many dead cats for many hours and not hit a truly great pulled pork sandwich around here. Sorry, I get that beef is king in Texas, but good, smoked pork butt should not be harder to find than a frikin lardon anywhere that people still speak with any twang.
So out I went to Shugabees in Buda. What I really dug about their take on the whole thing is that it is a decidedly Texas spin on a southeastern love affair. Sure, the pork was smokey, tender, and laced with those delicious chunks of park that really make great pulled pork tick — enough to make this Mississippi boy smile — but the chipotle mustard sauce was a cool take on mustard based bbq sauce. Serving it all up on a homemade tortilla adds definite local flavor. I think the only thing I missed was some pickle; for some reason that dill and vinegar zing of a few hamburger chips really makes pulled pork tick, at least to me. But that is a pretty minor concern. Hell, next time I’ll just bring a jar.
I went ahead and picked up some jalapeño potato salad on a whim and was rewarded with the best potato salad I’ve had at a BBQ establishment. Like bbq, there isn’t a helluvalot to potato salad on paper, but for some reason, some is just better than others. This would be an example of that phenomenon.
And then there is the setting. Nestled near the tree line where Onion Creek runs under 1626 at the Painted Horse Pavilion, the little trailer with its picnic tables is a decidedly casual affair. I sat, ate my pig and potatoes, watched a flock of wild turkeys amble down the river bank, wished I had some Wild Turkey to drink, and listened to the wind in the trees mingle with Lyle Lovett’s «That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas),» which was playing over at the trailer and thought to myself, «Life ain’t too bad today. Not bad at all.»
That’s a pretty good Saturday in my book. If you have one better, I don’t want to see it.
Check this place out if you have some time one day. Well worth the trip.

We went out to Shugabees for the first time this weekend on our way to float the river — it was one of the best decisions we made that day!
I had the pulled pork with the awesome mustard sauce and my boyfriend got the brisket. They wrap their tender and flavorful meat in wonderfully warm handmade flour tortillas — something very unique for a BBQ place (At least in my opinion). I got ¼ lb. of meat and it was a huge portion, especially with the tortilla! Every bite was delicious. We also got the jalapeño potato salad — if you like a kick of spice, you will LOVE this potato salad! It has so much flavor and texture, I was not disappointed. Then for dessert, we had the Beenana pudding. This dessert really hit the spot — it has nilla wafers on the bottom and top plus homemade whipped cream. Can’t get much better than that!
Plus, the owners are super sweet, friendly, and willing to answer as many questions as you have about the menu. They recently switched locations, so please go out there an give them the love they deserve! You won’t regret it :)
