Pretty positive these guys stole my credit card info and used it to try to buy about $ 1000 of electronics and fragrances online… Had to report credit card fraud and cancel the card in the wee hours of the morning after I ordered from them. The food was ok but if you must order from here, use cash. Ugh. So violating.

If I could give this place negative stars I would. It is, without a doubt, the most revolting Thai food I have ever eaten. The food literally felt old and stale. The papaya salad was tasteless and the lettuce at the bottom was old and wilted to the point of inedible. Had it not been takeout I would have sent it back. In addition, In my soup they used tofu instead of the chicken I requested. It was soggy, nasty tofu, the soup was greasy and nasty and I am appalled by the overall lack of quality. Post Script: the restaurant contacted me about this review and they were very courteous about my negative experience. And tried to correct it. I really appreciate that they read their reviews and are responsive. Hopefully this will contribute to more careful management of takeout orders.

Usually we have a good experience at this restaurant. But Thursday was ugly night. My wife ordered the lemongrass shrimp. And I also had some of hers a(larger portion.) And we both got sick hours afterward. Vomiting diarrhea and all kinds of stuff. We believe it was food poisoning. I ordered the mango chicken and I was fine. But if I were you, I would stay away from the lemongrass shrimp. Sorry to have to give a review like this but I’m just being honest so no one else has to go through what we went through! We’re still slowly recovering from a bad stomach on Friday night. Great way to start a new year huh? lol

This is my neighborhood Thai spot… and when I can’t make it out they deliver. Very quaint little byob place that makes very tasty food. So far I’ve enjoyed many things on their menu. I tend to order there pad see ew, or the string bean basil with whatever meat I feel for at the moment, all the time. Never disappoints.

Good food, spicy!!! :-) Yummmmm for Sweet Basil!!! I would definitely come back. I’m a Thai food lover that will walk in random Thai places to check out the food. Let’s just say, I’m glad I stopped at Sweet Basil. YEAAAA!!!

I know that almost all Thai food in NYC is bad, but this really takes the cake. Wet, hot, flavorless cardboard masquerading as pad thai…

BYOB, and there’s a wine shop right across the street! This is quick food. Not a date night spot necessarily, and I love it for that. The Good: Papaya salad, pad thai and mango chicken are all quite delicious, although very sweet. On these items I would recommend asking for extra spicy. The Great: The Tom Yum and Tom Kar Soup are FANTASTIC. so so so so good. Bf always gets a curry(loves the potato/tamarind one. I can’t remember the name. oops), and all of the ones we have tried have been great. The Bad: The only thing I would change would be the ambiance? And it’s not necessarily bad, just a little awkward. The super bright lights inside make it feel like a take-out joint, and although I love the bench seating on the one wall, the 3 tables on the other are so awkward. Dim the lights and throw a bench on the other wall, and you’ll have a quality date-night spot!(Edit: the last few times I have been, the music has been better and the lighting slightly dimmer, thank you!) Whatever, I’ll be back a million times. The soup is just that damn good.

I hate to leave a bad one but this really warrants it– ordered pad Thai. It’s a pretty basic traditional dish not sure how you can mess it up but they did– it lacked any flavor/spices at all. Most bland Thai food I’ve had hands down–

Great food, good ambience and can’t go wrong with the BYOB option. In addition, the staff are great, attentive and makes the place feel more intimate. Will definitely go back to this restaurant

I love this place! The atmosphere is quieter than some other places in the neighborhood, but service is still quick and courteous. The food is all good, I especially love the soups. Takeout is also a great option here, and comes quickly. Highly recommend!

Just walked out. The Panang Curry, which I order often at Thai restaurants, came to my table about 3 minutes after I ordered it. And it tasted like it took 3 minutes to make. The rubbery beef clearly wasn’t cooked in the curry, lacking the expected flavor and tenderness. The curry sauce itself was watery, nearly a soup. Their likely 3 minute recipe: Ladle some Panang curry sauce into a bowl. Add some precooked beef. Add bell pepper and green beans. Heat in microwave for 90 seconds. Serve. If they charged fast food prices this would have been ok.

The food is super good, clean flavors and fresh tasting ingredients. Its very cozy and prices are not bad. I went on a slow night but there were a few patrons there and some people who came to pickup, which makes me think the food must be consistantly good. Service was good, I don’t know if that would be any different on a busy night. I’m giving it only 4 stars b/c they do not serve coctails, wine or any kind of alcohol here, however they do allow you to bring your own, and there’s a deli right across.

The second worst Thai restaurant I’ve ever eaten in life. The food tastes like Chinese food. So I’m assuming it’s a Chinese food restaurant with Thai choices on the menu. The mango salad tastes absurdly bland. The basil rice tastes like NYC Chinese food fried rice. The mango chicken had over ripened mangos cooked in it. They were WAAAAAY too many bell peppers in there(they put a ridiculous amount of peppers to fill up the container and added a sprinkle of what seemed to taste like chicken) The spring rolls tastes like they used stale reused oil. The dip/sauce for the rolls looked like it was watered down and artificially colored with Red 5. All in all if your a real food person DONTWASTEYOURTIMEORMONEYATTHISPLACE.

Just moved the the neighborhood and have been trying out different places to get a feel ofwhat Crown Heights is all about. Went here last night on a date and although the date was a great time, there were a few disappointments with this place. Let’s get the Pros out of the way first… as we all love to write and read happy Unilocal reviews. Pros: I ordered the Pad thai with Shrimp(requested it to be mildly spicy and it came out perfectly spiced) and my date ordered some shrimp dish with pineapple. Both dishes were good — I enjoyed the way it was plated. I got a little purple flower as a garnish; how cute. Cons: After reading some of the reviews on the service and its hit or miss pattern, I would definitely say that I came on a missed night. It took a while to order and it took even longer to pay our bill. None of the servers were smiling — and with absolutely NO music playing in the background, it was definitely feeling awkward for a bit there. Everyone in the restaurant(customers) were trying their best to keep it down, even the large group in the corner. I thought the place looked like a take-out joint. if it wasn’t for those pretty walls, it would look exactly like that. I would probably just do take-out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Been to this place a couple of times for lunch, thought they would’ve made a couple of improvements since the last time which was over a year ago, but instead they raised the prices and reduced the flavor of the food. Get it together Sweet Basil!!!

Sweet Basil has the best Thai food I’ve eaten in the area, but that’s really not saying much at all. I’ve tried it a handful of times, including delivery, takeout, and dining in, and my experiences have been really hit or miss. Service is fairly good, and sometimes the food is pretty tasty, but I’ve had more disappointing meals than satisfying ones. Ordering most of their noodles often lands you with one congealed mass(/mess), and the flavor doesn’t make up for it. I’ve tried the pineapple curry twice, and although it was delivered hot and spicy the first time, ordering it during a dine-in dinner resulted in under-spiced curry with very little flavor. Overall, they’re too inconsistent for me to rate them any higher, but I do appreciate that they’ll go out of their delivery zone for a $ 20 minimum order. If you’re craving Thai in the area, or if there aren’t any other Thai restaurants willing to deliver to you, Sweet Basil will help fill that void until you can get somewhere better.

This thai restaurant is awesome. I always order the pad Thai shrimp and drunken noodle, and I love it! My husband loves their pineapple fried rice. Their lunch bento box is also good to try, u can have salad, spring roll, and the dish just for 8 to 9 dollars! That’s very reasonable price. And they also do deliver, every time I order just about 30 min. The service is good too, nice, friendly, and the place is clean! I recommend this place to go with ur family or ur best friend. They do not sell alcohol but is BYOB. It’s high recommended to have Thai food near Franklin Ave.

We are regulars of this local Thai restaurant on Franklin. We have been going here for at least 2 years now and always recommend it to our friends or guests staying in the area! The food is wonderful. We always enjoy their crab rangoons and without a doubt, they serve the BEST tom yum soup! My boyfriend gets the tofu/veggie and I the chicken and it never fails to hit the spot in both warm and the current freezing weather! We have never been disappointed in their main dishes either. Pad Thai is classic, their drunken noodles delicious, garlic noodles and pineapple fried rice are always good and their plating is beautiful. Also, their lunch specials are especially budget friendly, but they a quite affordable in general. The only reason they lose a star is that their service is hit and miss. We love this place, but it is true that we have been here when it takes 15 minutes to be approached by a server. It is a small place, not good for large groups, but even with just 3 – 4 customers in the place, the service can be slow and without a smile… the quality food and menu prices makes up for a less than friendly wait staff. Highly recommend!

If you’ve read my reviews then you’ll know I’m a Thai«fiend”-yes I love Thai food. I must have Thai at least once a week. Whether to stay in or to go. Lately I’ve been frequent that super local Thai restaurant in the Crown Heights area(Sweet Basil Thai) and OMG! Not only there’s a big«A» on their window but their menu looks good and they’re very affordable — I’m all about that. Good food, people friendly, cleanliness, affordable, and to top it off its super local for me. The first thing I always get is alcohol(for drinks of course) but this place doesn’t serve alcohol but the BYOB is good enough for me. So I’ll just have a glass of water. Then I proceed to appetizer(always extra crispy friend calamari or vegetable dumplings). Then main course(Drunken Noodle)-everything tastes great, on time, clean and the environment — all awesome. The first time I visited that place was last year sometime in April with my Cherie’m — yeah our first official«date» lol. Yeah we go back. I recommend this place to go with group of friends, date or if you want to enjoy your Thai meal solo then go ahead-enjoy.
