This place was interesting. Nice music inside. You could see the attention to detail in the presentation of the store. Then I learned that the staff are volunteers. Then I learned the store was funded through a Kickstarter. Then I noticed all the merchandise and other swag being sold and the cute local bookstore took on a more corporate feel. Made me think hey, you know where I can get curatorial services from PAID employees? At a library. Libraries: also a great site for community events. I just hope the role of the library — crucial for an educated populace and a functioning democracy — isn’t replaced by this money-​costing imitation. Libraries– the sharing economy. Maybe we can get some more funding for libraries if we pitch them as the über for books

I love this little shop! It’s super endearing from the outside, which makes you want to venture on in. I remember the first day I decided to walk in, I was surprised by both how small it was inside and by how adorable it was.
It looks rustic-​clean, with wooden shelves everywhere. The whole place is one little nook. My first purchase was off of the book cart that was outside. It was Stephen King’s «Needful Things,» and the woman, who told me it was her first day, assured me that I could pay whatever I wanted for this copy. I was amazed by this. Not only was this place adorable, but super unique and full of surprises.
I go back a lot to take a look at the new releases or see what else might be on the shelf that I’ve missed. Visit this place! It’s adorable, and who doesn’t like book shops?!

Hullabaloo is a really cool little bookstore. Wide range of books for such a small space. Perfect for grabbing something quick to read at the coffee shop or while doing your laundry next door.

I live in the good and have been looking forward to checking out to this new and welcome by me book store! I just tried to stop by on Saturday around 7pm and the door was locked. I did not see a sign outside with hours or explaining why the door is locked right now. Online hours says open until 9pm. Can anyone from Hullabaloo explain? Thanks!

I have been inside once and despite the store’s cozy size, they had the book I went in looking for. The owner was very friendly and I really liked all of the sign ups for book clubs (though I did put my email on a few lists and never received any emails). The only thing about this place is that the 9 – 9 hours listed on here is most certainly inaccurate. I try to go here all of the time and it seems to be closed more frequently than it’s open.

I love the décor so much that I was inspired to create some bookshelves in my house that resemble the ones at Hullabaloo. The well catered selection always gives me something good to bring home.

If there is another bookstore on the planet like Hullabaloo, I haven’t found it. I love the feel of the space and the community aspect of their mission. In my life, books have been a great way of connecting with friends (and potential friends), and it seems like this space is acting as an incubator for connections within the neighborhood.
And how cool is the section of books where you set your own price? Such a neat idea (and some fun, off the wall stuff in that selection, too).

Stumbled in here one afternoon and really liked the store. There’s a pretty good selection of books despite its small size. I liked the various cookbooks.
Other than Franklin Park’s literary nights, there isn’t very much in line of book culture on Franklin Ave or on Washington Ave for that matter. The only other book store is on Vanderbilt.
I loved the community sign outside the shop advertising book clubs etc. Will sign up!

I stopped by this place and picked a book out of their «pay whatever» cart and they accepted my barter of the loose change in my pocket which was less than $ 2, a half pack of orbit gum and a small piece of candy. I love this place.

Hullaballoo is wonderful. From its humble beginnings as an idea and a Kickstarter campaign to its current, realized state, it is charming.
Run and owned by the people that brought you Little Zelda and Wedge, it is a welcome addition to Franklin Avenue. There are used and new books, magazines, new releases, best sellers, esoteric favorites, foreign-​language editions, children’s books, graphic novels, and — local Crown Heights authors!
Michael, one of the owners, also runs a number of reading groups and writing workshops. I’m a (very delinquent) member of the David Foster Wallace reading group, and I love the opportunity to have conversations with other readers like myself.
Having a book store in the neighborhood is definitely a mark of familiarity and comfort to me, and Hullaballoo is a great one to live near!
