Yum yum yum. First things first I went here after flying from la and hadn’t eaten since breakfast so my hungry state may have made me a bit biased. My friend and I were going to go to the regular restaurant but it had a wait so we opted for the takeout bar. Perfect option. You can order there, wait about 10 – 15 minutes and then take your food to the patio of the restaurant. So easy. We had the Millenium Falco and the in Involto. Loved the Millenium Falco, the Involto was just okay and improbably order something else next time. the Involto is actually more of a calzone FYI. We also had one of the outstanding sticky buns. Seriously you gotta get one. You can thank me later. The service was good. Not the friendliest do staff, but not rude or anything. It’s a bit out of the way, but certainly worth a visit or five.

We came here instead of the sit-down place around the corner. You can order here and then sit in the open seating area(it was empty!) where there are TVs for sport games and stuff. It was a bit chilly last week at dinner time, but beats paying tip at a sit-down restaurant! It’s pizza. Ordered an Axl Rosenberg to share with my friend — we watched the fun pizza making and firing process and were entertained by the team’s loud communications… when our pizza came out of the oven undersized they re-made it super quick, which was nice. Unfortuately, I don’t think Roberta’s is my preferred style of pizza. The super-hot oven dried out the toppings and burnt the tops of the crust(on purpose, I think — every pizza was like this) which I don’t think adds a complementary flavor to the bread. Dough was good, cheese was great, but topping to pizza ratio could have been a bit higher. The major hit for me was them burnt crusts though. New York pizza, why you so disappointing???

So I’ve been low key dreaming about the Roberta’s Italian sub after reading about it so I finally ordered it delivery. Came pretty quickly, but what a disappointment. It had such less meat on it than in others’ pictures, and I feel like charging almost double that of a regular Italian deli for a similar sandwich should warrant at least the same amount of meat but alas. I posted a pic so you can judge for yourself. What WAS on the sandwich however was super tasty. If anyone from Roberta’s is out there please add more meat! I know you can do it. Sigh.

Absolutely need to try their pizza! Their other menus are pricey but the pizza is definitely worth every penny! Their dough is made to perfection. My friend was waiting for her pizza, and the dough came out a little burnt. They immediately threw it away and made her another one. They take their pizzas seriously. With that being said, I can’t say I felt welcomed here. Granted, it’s a take out place, but like smile, guys.

We were too hungry to wait to be seated at the restaurant proper(1+ hr on a rainy Sat night), so like the pizza fiends that we are, we bopped over to the Take Out space for some nearly instant gratification. We had the Margherita and the Spenkenwolf, and both were out of this world good. The slightly charred and slighty chewy crust, the perfect sauce to cheese ratio and the fresh ingredients made for the best car dining in NYC. Best pizza in NYC. Car not included in pizza order.
