The food was great but what really sets this place apart is the incredible friendly staff. The chicken meatballs were so good we had to place a second order. They tasted like a deconstructed dumpling on a stick. The mint and citrus salts paired with the crispy fries were perfection. Highly recommend you try some of their beers and white sesame ice cream.

My friend and I were visiting and maybe we weren’t cool enough for the cool Brooklyn scene but we were extremely confused. We were told that one side of the restaurant took cash and the other took both. Apparently we sat in the side that doesn’t take card. The person I was with and I both got a rice ball as an appetizer and ramen for our meal. Well our ramen came first and it tasted like something I could make at home. Not homecooked but bland. Then our appetizer came out and the rice balls were so burned. Burned to the point the rice balls were uncooked rice. We left right after. If you’re looking for good Japanese food in Brooklyn, I say look somewhere else.

Ventured into Bushwick last night from Park Slop. BF got a new motobike and we wanted to explore a different nabe. Unilocal led me to Momo Sushi which I was excited to try. We entered what we thought to be Momo but the menu seems off. Menu says Moku Moku. I yell at BF that he took me to the wrong place! But wait, we look on our phones and we’re not at the wrong place. Moku is connected to Momo but they have different menus and are operated as completely separate restaurants. Momo was on a 15 minute wait on a Thursday night. Moku? No wait. So conflicted. Interesting things on both menus. Drives me insane that the owner would set it up like this! Why?! Is he evil? Phillip, the owner, however, is not evil. He is just the most friendliest, warmest guy you can imagine. We stayed at Moku(chalked it up to destiny) and ordered all kinds of things that I enjoy and that my BF enjoys a lot less. Beef heart, beef tongue, chirashi and uni ramen. Yum! Everythang was yummy. Food came out fast and server was great. BF gets the bill and he gets reverse sticker shock. As in, we had all of these delicacies and we’re only paying $ 58 not including tip? Yaaaaaaaaaas, hunnaaaay!

Don’t even know where to start on this one. Thursday night. Early dinner. Found it on Unilocal as we were staying in the neighborhood for a few nights. Great luck. We ordered the Gobo Kinpiri salad to start. Burdock roots, carrots, seaweed, ginger and sesame seeds sound pretty mundane but SO fresh, crunchy and TASTY and served as a great start to an amazing eating experience. I’ll switch to discuss the staff. As others have indicated, attentive! The proprietor as well, very interested in how we enjoyed each course. Our wait persons were knowledgable foodies and we got to watch the chefs work as we ate at the bar. We ordered the veggie skeweres and a scallop skewer roasted on bricks. Okra and Mushrooms were so great. Scallops were good but small and few. We went on to get more mushroom skewers and a chicken breast skewer. We had the Rosemary and Shisho(?) salts — which definitely add base notes to the roasted veggies. We could have stopped there and been sated but ordered the sashimi bowl(forgetting its name). This was the highlight of the meal. Fresh does not describe the fish. My dining companion(who has never been a fan) said it was the first time she truly enjoyed the taste of sashimi. It comes with a green wasabi sauce(you might call it a chutney) made from wasabi stems! Salmon roe, nori shards, and a condiment I’d describe as a variety on Jewish charoset. It was simply Devine. Couldn’t stop there so we got a recommendation for the white sesame ice cream. White sesame seeds imported from Japan and roasted before adding to ice cream. A cross between peanut butter and vanilla ice creams, it can hardly be described. Overall, this one is a top 10 meal for me.

Happened to be in bushwick and had some time to kill before meeting friends and was hungry so I stopped in here on a Friday night, as soon as I got there I was greeted by Phillip who was the host that night, he got me a seat right away and was very friendly and even told me about how they get some of the meat, anyway I admittedly don’t know too much about ramen but I ordered chicken miso ramen and a glass of sake, both were excellent, the ramen itself had slices of chicken meatball(amazing) a sliced egg and tons of scallion, it was brothy and not too liquidy if that makes any sense, it was perfect in my opinion, the service was great also, very friendly and even willing to explain some items to a rookie like me, if I happened to be in the area I would come back for sure, it is also cash only FYI

#The MENTAIKOMAZEMEN is really good with that uni on top. The #Shishito Peppers were good with the salts. One of them I ate was insanely spicy. Felt the burn in my butt he next #day. I think that’s why that call it shi-shit-o. They take #credit cards now.

I am really impressed by Moku Moku. The service was absolutely amazing and very friendly(I am really surprised that anyone would say otherwise). The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and were able to adequately help me find the right choices to portion out a perfect dinner. I ordered the salmon pastrami, onigiri, and spicy chicken skewer. There are so many places in this area that I want to try, but I know that I will be coming back here again to try out more of their diverse and unique menu. I also want to say that for two people(who drank only water, mind you) the bill came out to 30 $. Definitely affordable, and that’s always a plus! Next time I’m here I’ll probably load up on those delicious skewers.

Had a truly excellent meal here and would recommend it to anyone looking for something unique and memorable. The brussels sprouts, chicken gizzard(I know!) and pork fried rice were great – and the Uni Mazemen(with edamame to complete the«Japanese carbonara» visual) was out of this world. My buddy and I couldn’t stop talking about it.

Great place for a nice dinner. Portion sizes are a little on the small side, not super expensive. We got a grilled nigiri, spicy chicken, chicken skin, chicken heart, and their special lamb porterhouse. The flavors were amazing, although it did take a little longer for the food to come out. The waiters for very nice and attentive.

Omg the corn dog!!! Omg omg omg I want like 10 of them but I love corn dogs. The moly salad is also deeeeeelicious! I ordered the yuzu chicken wings which come over fried rice and it tasted good BUT it’s suuuuuuuuper spicy! And no where on the menu does it say it’s spicy, good thing I love spicy! slightly OD on the yuzu but overall tasted good. The ramen was meh. Service was AMAZING! Everyone’s super nice and the owner is apparently always there and talks to everyone, always a plus. Dreaming of that corn dog, wish a took pictures but was so hungry I couldn’t be bothered.

OMG Guys. Seriously. Come eat here. The food and service are so good. We ordered a bunch of skewers to share. They come 1 skerer per order at 2 – 3 bucks each. We tried spicy chicken breast, okra, tomato, shisito peppers, chick meat ball and scallop. The portions are small, especially for the meat, but they are so inexpensive you can grab a variety and share. We also ordered salmon pastrami, porkchop and tongue. Each bite was to die for — flavorful, tender, meaty goodness. They have sets where you get soup and some skewers for about 15 bucks, which would be great if you are dining alone. Three carafes of sake later we were pretty drunk and I gushed to the waiter(David I think?) and owner(Phil) and the chef(ok at the point I got his name I was toasted) about how much I loved them and how awesome Moku Moku. I am dying to come back and try the uni ramen.

Came here with a couple of guys whose significant others were in a female-only book club. We had a session of our irregular, men-only«anti-book club,» where we talk about anything except books. It’s not to hard at a place like Moku Moku, an izakaya with plenty of twists away from the standard menu. There are a variety tasting salts to go with skewers, with range from relatively ordinary pieces of meat to hirame and tsukune. They are small bites, so don’t ignore your waiters entries to order plenty of food. For once, they are not just attempts to drive up the bill.(Well, they partially are, but they are good pieces of advice.) I found our waitress here to be just right, offering thoughts on pairings and the menu without trying to make it seem like we’ve never had Japanese food before. It’s harder than it sounds, as the nearby catastrophe that is Okiway shows. The tako corndog soars where a similar concept at The Federal Bar to the west flops, adding in Japanese to flavors to a very American concoction. I don’t remember seeing too much asparagus at izakaya in the past, this version out of the oven with breadcrumbs such be copied. And salmon pastrami — a weakness of mine, I admit — is so flavorful that I’ll overlook the presence of the ever-odious edamame hummus. I’m pretty sure Moku Moku shares some ownership with Samurai Mama, Samurai Papa and the Brooklyn Ball Factory. If that’s the case, this group has the Japanese scene in North Brooklyn locked up. Congrats, guys.

Totally unique and mind blowing Ramen. It’s a borderline sexual experience. Friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic staff. The salmon pastrami, and spicy uni ramen are standouts. Perfect for the hung over, or under. Genius stylie.

Whoa! Such an awesome place and awesome concept. Basically, Japanese tapas. Little plates of incredible goodness. At first, I was like, you want how much money for a tiny bowl of Brussels sprouts? But I tried it, and it was soooo worth it. They also do these little skewers of food. I basically had a ‘corndog’ consisting of a stick skewering lengthwise through an octopus tentacle, covered with delicate breading. Normally, I’m like, ew, octopus tentacle, but this was quite the amazing experience of texture and flavor. Anyway, I had other things, and I highly recommend coming in a group and just ordering one of each thing and having the foodie version of some sort of Valhalla feast.

Cool spot with ridiculously good food down to the last detail. Everything we ordered was well executed. Servers were friendly and Phil(who also owns Momo next door and Hi Hello on Wyckoff) was working the room and sent us a bowl of the ramen special to try. It was amazing, with a sauce that had so much flavor and complexity it must have been slow cooked for hours. Love this spot, love Phil, great place.

Izakaya in Bushwick? No freaking way! Means I don’t have to troop all the way to St. Marks just to satisfy my cravings. Food we ordered: chicken heart — just the right texture chicken gizzard — I usually like my gizzards more crunchy, but it had plenty of flavor beef tongue — tender tako dog — my husband’s favorite. Takoyaki + corn dog combined… genius! crab tartare — avocado galore, wanted more crab, but I think it was expected for the price mentaiko mazemen — good portion of noodles Val(I hope I remembered her name correctly) was a super sweetheart. Made sure we were well taken care of and who doesn’t like service that comes with a constant smile? I told her that I thought the mazemen was a little heavy for me and she actually credited our bill for that plate. Something she didn’t have to do because it wasn’t really a complaint, more of a suggestion. Definitely appreciated it! The owner even came around to introduce himself and let us know which ones were his favorites. If you haven’t checked it out… get your butt to Moku Moku! right next to my favorite sushi party bomb spot Momo!
