Ray’s Video was a great thing to have around when I lived in the neighborhood, and I’m glad to see that they’re still going strong. Though the building itself is somewhat small, it contains a great selection of titles and a solid distribution of new releases, old classics and my personal favorite, weird and obscure straight-to-video films. I also noticed that their blu-ray section was growing at a rapid rate before I moved away. As mentioned, they have a great deal where you can rent three non-new release movies for five dollars, and you get to keep them for the whole week. Every time I rented, the cashier was sure to examine each DVD and use a wiper before placing it in the case. This may seem like a small courtesy, but it’s good to know that they appreciate and take good care of their movies. Lastly, I cannot end this review without noting the great customer service I received every time I visited here. The owners and employees at Ray’s were always patient, friendly and helpful, which made it a pleasure for me to be a patron.

You can’t really expect much these days from small, mom-and-pop video stores, especially with the existence of movies on demand(cable), chain video stores like Blockbuster, and online or mail delivery rentals with Netflix. Ray’s merely caters to the neighborhood in which it resides. The guys who work here are pretty friendly and oftentimes make good recommendations. Movie rentals are cheap too…$ 5 for 3 movies. The only drawback is that they’re one-day rentals.
