My sister got me a pretty expensive gift certificate to this place. I tried to redeem my voucher and it wouldn’t go through. I tried to contact them by telephone and email for almost TWOMONTHS! So unprofessional and a total rip off! The worst part is that my sister just burnt a lot of cash for literally nothing :-(Spread the word. this place is garbage!

Very unprofessional organization. I purchased a voucher from TimeoutNY. when i went to use it the chefday site said they stopped delivering indefinitely and to email them for further instructions as they would reply within 24 hours. I have made numerous attempts to contact them via email and phone and no response.

I bought a Gilt City voucher for 6 meals from Chefday, and I’ve been pleased with the service. Chefday delivers fresh, organic, and often local ingredients for you to prepare at least 2 of 8 recipes they offer. Food comes pre-measured, washed, and packaged so that it can sit outside the fridge for a few hours – though the package arrives in a brown paper bag, and not a cooler. Recipes have an accompanying online video, where the chef whose recipe you’re preparing will walk you step-by-step through preparing the meal. Results are relatively quick(~30 min), tasty, and healthy meals. You have to order at least 2 servings of a meal, and up to 8 servings. The price begins at $ 15/serving, and goes down by $ 1 for each 2 additional servings you order. I ordered six different meals, and while my voucher was still active, there were 7 options to choose from. Now I see that there are 8 – one suggestion for Chefday would be for them to add new recipes more frequently, but it’s not a huge issue. One challenge is that, because Chefday hires a delivery service, rather than handling deliveries in-house, deliveries to apartments without a doorman pose a challenge: you would need to mail Chefday a new key to your building each time you order food – that is clearly not worth the hassle, so if you don’t have a doorman, prepare to be home for the 3-hour delivery window. My building has a double buzzer system, and to their credit, I heard back very quickly after emailing Chefday to ask about mailing them a key for deliveries to take place while I’m at work. If you work in the city, however, you could have your delivery made between 2:00 and 5:00 to your office. I work in Connecticut, and this wasn’t an option, but the delivery issue is probably not an issue for most Chefday customers. Deliveries came on-time, usually toward the beginning of the window, and the food has been very fresh each time. They say you have 3 days to cook the food they deliver, but you can probably even stretch that out a little. Meals have been delicious, and I recommend the Parmesan Veal Milanese and Asparagus-Stuffed Salmon options. It’s hard to find organic and local food in the city, especially in some neighborhoods, and at a reasonable price. Chefday offers an answer to the common problem that it is hard to find the time to shop and do all the prep work for preparing a meal – these meals don’t take that long to cook, and especially in a small kitchen, it’s a relief that everything is measured out and washed in advance. $ 15 for a serving, however, is a little pricey to justify cooking – I would not have used Chefday without the Gilt voucher. I will probably use it again, however, for my next dinner party.
