So sad to hear that my favorite taqueria in NY is now closed. They had the best refried beans that I had tasted, in the USA, outside of California and not only was the price right for what I liked to order but they had a salsa bar that you could grab from whatever and however much you wanted(I liked to make my burritos nice and spicy with the hot salsa from here). Always a line when ordering, but never having to wait too long, I enjoyed coming here every time I was hungry for Mexican. R.I.P. My little 7th Avenue Brooklyn eatery. :-(

I must remove two stars because of a disappointing recent experience. I really wanted a Coke with my rice, bean, and cheese burrito. I ordered one, and the cashier charged me $ 2.10 for a small sized fountain soda. I thought this was too expensive, but I really expected that a Coke would taste nice with my burrito so I didn’t say anything. When I sat down and had a sip I discovered it wasn’t even a Coke. It was a Pepsi. If I wanted a Pepsi, I would have asked for one. Taqueria staff: if you’re going to overcharge me for a Coke, at least give me what I ordered.

Burritos are big and priced fairly. Love the Park Slope and Berkley burritos — both vegetarian options. Fillings are flavorful. The salsa bar is nice and has spicy options. Wish the bar had lime wedges. Good Mexican food, fast service, good prices = return customer.

I love burritos and I especially love the burritos I get form La Taqueria. The price is right for those amazing burritos and they are huge. Even though the place is always busy no matter when I am there they always have great service and they are very helpful. I love that they have water for you to take in the back and that you can fill up your burrito with what ever and how much you would like of their condiments. Their salsa is SPICY and you can get any combination in your burrito that you want. You can even go with just beans and rice for a few bucks and with some extra salsa you have a two day meal.

I used to go to this place all the time. Ordered for delivery as well. I had a few favorites. Now I only go once or twice a year. And always when I feel like an Outrageous Californian. Absolutely huge — and has a lot of flavor — I usually get it with steak, which has a nice char. The lower calorie version(Rachel’s special???) was always very good too(and prob not that low cal). Have never eaten in the full service area(which I just read has closed — the take out side is still open.) I’m not a huge fan of tex-mex so can’t compare to other places, but think it’s solid.

Largest Burrito I have ever eaten in my life! So spicy, but super delicious. Service was great — everyone was very friendly and they have a giant cooler of cold water to cool off a scorched mouth!(Did I mention it was spicy?!) I will totally go back, since it’s pretty much impossible to find good Mexican food in NY. ‘Olé.

I really like La Taqeria. Overall, I think the drinks are great anc value-priced! The bartenders are AWESOME(shout-out to my gal Megan!!!). It’s one of the few places where I prefer to stick with the barside experience and eat my meal there instead of at the table. There the service is attentive and great. Sometimes I’ve found the table service to be a little spotty(servers might forget about you or rush you a little once you’ve finished eating). However, the fun and relaxed bar experience is where it’s at! The food is very good. Love the fish tacos and the cheese enchiladas!!! My drink recommendation is the guava frozen margarita. :)

Coming from California, I’m always a little bit skeptical of ordering Mexican food outside of the Golden State. Going into La Taqueria, I had in mind that old Pace Picante Sauce commercial with the crowing cowboys«This stuff’s made in New York City!» But, after having spent the last two years living in Boston, I figured I could handle whatever mediocre burrito the East Coast could throw at me. Going in, the restaurant was a clusterf#ck of people and little kids and the counter guys were clearly flustered but friendly. My friend and I split the giant California burrito with carne asada and grilled corn and strolled over to Prospect Park to eat our burrito al fresco. Holy wow, that was an awesome burrito. Seriously, the best burrito I’ve had in a REALLY long time. The meat was perfectly seasoned, slightly spicy, the guac was cooling and delicious, flavorful rice and beans, and the corn added the perfect veggie dimension. I’m almost mad at La Taqueria… this surprisingly great burrito means that I’m going to risk my taste buds on many more crummy East Coast burritos, hopeful for another delicious surprise.

Pretty tasty options for a BK taqueria, but not the most impressive by way of customer service. It’s not bad, it’s just disappointing when the wait staff seems indifferent to your patronage. Definitely very standard offerings(ie: taco, burrito, etc) but I have to commend them — they don’t offer much, but at least the few things they DO offer are done right. Plus, every now and then, they have whole, ½, or ¼ rotisserie chickens, which are amazing.

Full disclosure — I’ve only eaten here once. But it was, hands down, the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I was in town, visiting a friend in Brooklyn and we wanted to order Mexican delivery on Saturday night. Not only were the homemade chips amazing, but paired with their guacamole and salsa, you just can’t go wrong. The vegetarian burritos are huge, and so delicious! It was also my fist experience with horchata(YUM). Since we did not dine-in, I can’t speak to the restaurant’s vibe, but the food itself was(as I said) the best Mexican I’ve had!

YUMFOOD! THERIBSAREGOOD and the meat slides off the bone! Whoo-hoo~! No soup though. That was really, really, really disappointing. I don’t even know how to tell you how disappointed I was. Beans/rice were your standard fare(done right). Came at a crowded time, so ate at the bar again. Big picture(reminds me of the fresco they have in the Mexican soap opera«paso a paso» series Carmen I had to endure in high school… grrr) is nice, nonetheless. Did I mention they have a bar? Was hard for me to feel like I had personal space to chat, but… hey, that’s prolly why we should’ve just went for a table instead. Ahh, time crunches! Anyway, all good. I recommend the ribs highly. Did I mention they were less than $ 15(pre-tax/tip)

You guys, you guys! You guys! You gotta eat here! I’m not kidding. I’m not from California but this is possibly the best burrito I’ve ever had. I’m still not kidding. Not even about not being from California. Cuz I’m from Seattle. Where good mexi-food is rare. But holy crap, you guys! Get the Poblano Burrito! Today. 8 bucks for a burrito ¾ the size of your head? With delicious mole sauce and wonderfully seasoned grilled veggies? That’s what it is. Just what I just described! And that’s not even the only burrito they HAVE! They have, like… tons! Like ones with guac, and spinach, and chicken, and some crazy yum cream sauce, and sauteed mushrooms… and, like, I’m pretty sure pork which I don’t eat but respect that they offer. And they all come with a half handful of home made tortilla chips, which are not like regular tortilla chips cuz they’re… really different. Flaky and oily and crispy and thin and puffy and awesome. All of those! in one chip! Well, they actually give you like 4 or 5. And each one is like that! And cheap beers. And margaritas which I haven’t had because tequila makes me not-so so-so, so… you know. But Negra Modelo!!! Holy… yes. You guys… I literally make excuses to go to stroller-ville 7th ave Disney village Park Slope just to eat here. And so should you.

Most Californians I have met have their own«epic burrito» stories. Burritos that were five feet long, with the perfect amount of guacamole and the most succulent meat on the planet. Make no mistake, La Taqueria isn’t epic, and I am sure more than a few Californians will make some remark about how it doesn’t compare to ones they had back home. However, La Taqueria is delicious, and incredibly filling. The Outrageous California has enough food in it to last you for three square meals. I think for a taqueria in NYC they do a pretty good job. That atmosphere is nice, and the La Taq side is a good choice if you want something a bit more formal. In a city where Chipotles seem to be popping up in every neighborhood, La Taqueria is a refreshing oasis.

I’d heard really good things about this place, things like it’s being«THE» place to go for Mexican food in the Slope. So we went, my wife, some friends and I, and I’m here to register my grunt. I hate to bitch too much about a place’s service, but I’m going to at least note that it took a long time to get our victuals, and the place wasn’t exactly crowded. That’s all I’ll say on that front. When I go to a new Mexican joint, I usually get the enchiladas — they’re sort of like my barometer for general culinary worthiness, I guess. Perhaps this is a limitation to my method, but I am a believer in the scientific process, and it seems like a good way to isolate the variables I’m working with. In any case. The enchiladas were decidedly decent. Not great. Not bad at all. I’m having a difficult time summoning any adjectives that will stick, in fact, and am thus having to resort to a negative-relief portrait here. And for all that nondescript flavor, I think they were a little bit pricey for what they were. I think that what saved this from being a 2-star review is the guacamole we had as an appetizer. Fantastic! It was a perfect blend in a generous serving, and even managed to not overdo the cilantro(a common plight in restaurant guac, in my purview). In all, maybe I should try a burrito next time. If I do, I’ll update my review accordingly. But the guacamole alone should reserve this restaurant a spot in my «get-drinks-and-a-snack» repertoire.

WOW. A helluva burrito. The place reminds me of El Zapato taqueria in San Francisco(and another one in the Haight whose name I can’t remember). I am most recently from California, so tried the«Outrageous California» burrito without rice. It’s delicious, and could easily feed two people, if not three. The chicken mole and the shredded chicken inside it were like pieces of poultry heaven. Some logistical things: Cash only. Not a lot of seating(at least that I could see). Patrons«upstairs» who had a seat between them weren’t interested in letting me share space, so I ended up sharing the big table downstairs with another guy, which was fine, but led me to believe my orders will be takeout in the future.

My girlfriend brought me to this mexican place off of grand army and she had raved about the burrito(size-wise) many times before. The food was good, but the night we were there my girlfriend admitted it was not their best work. The house guac was tasteless, but the big burrito was right on target with the addition of corn and no beans. Horchata and Watermelon Juice available for consumption.

Apologia for the Californians: In this city you will never find the mythic burrito from the distant horizon of your childhood; get over it. Because I am not from California, I have a much higher threshold for burrito-lovin. Thus I can report on the deliciousness of burritos free from the dreaded burrito ‘double consciousness,’ wherein one must always regard one’s burrito through the eyes of a world that looks on in contempt and pity. Today, my burrito was the size of a small midget, if midgets cost ten dollars and were stuffed with delicious chicken, guacamole, beans, spinach, and nonfat plain yogurt. MMmmboy. Healthy, and fun to tickle! I will be eating this midget for several days, and I will update accordingly. I predict a soggy midget is an unhappy midget, and am willing to place bets to that effect. Any takers?

Ground beef. French fries. Cheese. In a burrito. This gift from God is called the Chula Vista and it exists at La Taqueria. I was in awe of it’s artery-clogging girth. It looks like something that belongs on . I think because we got take out that the fries were soggy and made the burrito just okay. I’ll just have to try this awesomeness again, fresh and hot at the restaurant. I also got corn on the cob with cheese. It was good but it was served with onions on top. That had to be disposed of before I sank my teeth into the blackened sweet corn. My gripe with this is that the website said $ 2 and I was charged $ 3.50.

When I was young(er) I found myself here when my family was craving Mexican food. It has always been consistent and delicious. The meats are packed with flavor and the vegetable options are fresh and delicious. I usually end up ordering a chicken and roasted corn burrito. If you don’t get the baja you will end up with a burrito the size of a fairly large fetus. Attempting to eat one without a fork and knife would always remind me of a fear stricken Cronus swallowing his children. If you are a fan of nachos I would say that these are some of the best I have ever had. I might not be accustomed to «real» Mexican food(This place used to be called California Taqueria… so I don’t think it has ever claimed to be authentically Mexican), but my Texan boyfriend says that its the best Mexican food he has yet to try in NYC. That is a huge compliment as he is constantly moaning and groaning about the quality of any restaurant that claims to emulate the goodies south of the border. The interior is very festive. There are two parts to the taqueria, a sit down section on the left(fairly new), and a take out area with two small seating zones. I really wouldn’t waste my time next door. The food isn’t pretentious and eating it in a quasi fancy atmosphere is unnecessary. The take out area has all the personality. A vibrant mural on one wall, and the rest are filled with color and old rock and roll memorabilia/stickers. You’ll be sure to hear some of your favorite classic rock hits while you’re chowing down on your fetus of a burrito…

A burrito seems so simple. We’re not talking complex sauces or exotic ingredients flown half way around the world. Beef, rice, beans, cheese. So why is finding a good one in NYC so hard? Want a really good burrito? You can fly to San Francisco, hop the BART to go to the Mission, or go to La Taqueria. This place is as good as any I’ve had in SF. Be warned these burritos are huge. Share it or make it 2 meals. While it’s huge the quality is quite good. The beef was tender and mildly seasoned. The rice was cooked well, not too hard or too soft, and I love pico de gallo. It’s a bit expensive($ 11 for a burrito and soda) which is why it gets 4 stars. Although when you consider you can feed 2 people or have 2 meals the price isn’t to bad.
