John P Brennan, MD

I was hoping to find an ob-​gyn in the neighborhood, and chose Dr. Brennan based on Unilocal reviews. Unfortunately the wait time was much too long (over an hour after my appointment time) so I won’t be back.

Dr. Brennan delivered my second child in 2013. He runs a solo practice and is what I imagine a family practitioner in a small town 50 years ago to be like – endlessly patient, kind, and understanding. He spends as much time with you, and every other patient, as you need, which results in some very long waits for your appointment, but it’s worth it. He shepherded me and my baby safely through pregnancy and delivery, even following my wishes to have an unmedicated, non-​induced birth despite being overdue and high-​risk, by following traditionally midwife techniques.
I am giving him 4 stars because of the long waits, but otherwise, he is fantastic and I highly recommend him.

Best doctor and doctor’s office I’ve ever been to!
I’ve only written one Unilocal review before, but my amazing experience with Dr. Brennan’s office has compelled me to write a second. I used to dread going to any doctor in the New York area — I would even make appointments back in my hometown just to avoid the rushed and often inattentive New York doctors. Then when I got pregnant with my first baby, I found Dr. Brennan’s office.
To me, Dr. Brennan’s office feels like the best of both worlds: the personal attention of a small town doctor, combined with the knowledge and expertise of a long-​practicing New York City doctor. Everyone in the office, from the women at the front desk, to the nurse (Dr. Brennan’s wife, and an incredible source of both knowledge and comfort), to Dr. Brennan himself, is kind, attentive and knowledgable.
I never felt rushed at my appointments with Dr. Brennan, and always got all my questions answered. He and Jayce, the nurse, really take their time with each and every patient. Yes, sometimes this means there’s a wait to be seen. Often there was no wait at all, but sometimes there was a long wait — but I quickly learned that a long wait meant they had taken their time with a patient who needed them, the same way they would with me.
I really appreciated how calmly Dr. Brennan handled any issues that arose. I am a worrier, and when I had a few false positives during my pregnancy, Dr. Brennan really appeased my worries. Jayce helped with this as well. She made me feel like no concern of mine was too small. If I mentioned something I was worried about — even if it was clearly an unwarranted worry — she made sure Dr. Brennan took a look, if only for my peace of mind.
I think the best thing about Dr. Brennan is that he’s always available by phone — weekends, the middle of the night, anytime — he will happily answer your call and walk you through whatever issue you’re having. He and Jayce even encourage this; they were always telling me to call anytime day or night if I was worried about something.
I had my baby via C-​section (the baby was breech) 2 weeks ago, and had complete confidence in Dr. Brennan and his abilities the entire time. And his follow-​up since the birth, as I recover from the surgery, has been as attentive and involved as ever.
This is all to say that I highly recommend Dr. Brennan and his office!

I cannot recommend him highly enough. The entire staff there are absolutely delightful. Dr Brennan is amazing, so incredibly patient, respectful and collaborative. He never rushes and nothing is too small to discuss or ridiculous to ask! His wife Jais, his nurse, is equally amazing — she always ensures that you are fully informed and is concerned with all aspects of what you’re dealing with — a huge comfort to a first time Mom who’s family lives abroad! I’ve also had some other gyno issues to deal with, one involving surgery and again, John was fantastic. He is affiliated with Lenox Hill. The receptionist is an absolute sweetheart and so accommodating — something you rarely see these days!
Good luck in your search but if you choose John I know you won’t be disappointed.

I suppose it depends what you’re looking for in an OB, but frankly, I’m completely shocked to see all these positive reviews. Here are some reasons why I’m shocked, based on my own experience: Dr. Brennan’s office is disorganized (his wife, who runs the office, is like a character out of a Woody Allen movie), and he’s a straight-​up-​the-​line alarmist OB. (As an example, he got me in a panic that my baby might be huge based on his fetal weight estimates — she was under 7 lbs. at birth.) I transferred out of their care into the care of an excellent, competent midwife and they HAD NO RECORDS for me, and worse, seemed to write me off because I had transferred into the care of someone who they didn’t respect (they seemed to assume that our midwife must just be some hippie, not a trained professional). In the middle of an ultrasound where he was measuring the fetal weight, he forgot to finish it until I asked what the estimate was. He and his wife had spats in front of me and my husband numerous times. One of the most aggravating facts is that the average wait time to see this doctor is from (minimum) one hour to much longer than that — I got used to camping out for 2+ hours just to see him, and it seemed like half the time he was running late because he’d been shopping at Trader Joe’s. Compare this with the midwife who showed up on time to our meetings, and then spent an average of one hour with me per session, answering all my dumb questions and not instilling me with fear of labor. Women of Brooklyn, I really think you can do better.

Dr. Brennan is a rare gem. I have been his patient for 7 years and he has delivered both my children. The wait can be long but the best care is worth waiting for. When you need doctor Brennan he will make sure he is there for you. I get that and understand waiting bc I know he is helping a woman who needs him at that moment. When i was 30 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and started bleeding, I rushed to LIcH. I called him hysterical. He dropped everything and ran to hold my hand. What doctor does that these days?
I have many storied about Dr. Brennan going above and beyond.

I can go on FOREVER about how wonderful he is!
I have delivered both of my children under the care of Dr. Brennan and I was in the best hands possible. Both of my children were high-​risk pregnancies and boy oh boy did we keep him on his toes. Middle of the nite calls returned promptly. He dropped everything to rush to me at LICH when another Dr. tried to convince me to deliver my baby early (aka Dr. Death). My daughter was born at 26 weeks (weighed 18 oz) and is 9 today and doing MARVELOUSLY WELL! My son was born at 30 weeks (2 lbs) is 6 now and also doing FABULOUSLY.
All of his patients love him, and are with him for life– so the wait can be long at times. That is ususallly because he is attending to THAT person who really needs him at that moment. I get that. I was that person. You don’t feel rushed during your visits, which is rare these days. He answers all of your questions with respect and understanding and is as patient a Dr. as it gets.

Dr. Brennan is my FAVORITE doctor. Period. I have been a patient for close to two decades. Dr. Brennan has an excellent bedside manner –consistently courteous and professional. He is highly skilled and respected, as he has trained many other doctors and is a board certified formerly LICH affiliated doctor. He has been my primary care physician as well as my ob/​gyn doctor. He deserves more vacation as he is a workaholic, and is relentlessly willing to serve his patients. He is blessed and has been a blessing to me many times. Thank you Dr. Brennan!

Dr. Brennan is the best. He is extremely knowledgeable and works nonstop. He has delivered all three of my children (one via emergency c-​section and two naturally). He’s caring and kind. I can’t recommend him enough!

Having worked and volunteered in hospitals for over 30 years, I will say that Dr Brennan is fantastic. His bedside manners are great. He is open and approachable. Great staff. Excellent reputation. He has done a wonderful job at taking care of my wife and delivering our 4 children via c-​section (he is NOT an over user of c-​sections but alas sometimes you have no choice).
