Beastly Bite was started over 30 years ago. The former owner Richard sold the business in 2002. Since then the store has been transformed into Brooklyns #1 Pet supply store

So depressing to see a grossly obese cat in here that you just know they don’t care about animal welfare. Seriously? When there are other pet stores in the area, there is no need to go into this place. That poor creature.

They’ve got the good mice.
I don’t know about your middling cat’s pedestrian tastes, but my cat is a connoisseur. He turns his splendidly shaped nose up at the neon green/​pink, unrealistic mice that one finds in the PetSmart around the corner. He will only play with mice of the the classic grey variety, found in the back right corner of Beastly Bite.
If only I could figure out where he hides them all, I would be able to stop buying them every month. Seriously, WHERE ARE THEY?! Our apartment is not that big.
Beyond mice purchases, the staff at Beastly Bite has been perfectly nice, and somewhat helpful. I would love to say that all my pet needs are fulfilled here (I want to support local businesses more than anyone), but unfortunately most of the food is priced at a substantial markup over other outlets, and it’s pretty tough to swallow that on a regular basis.
That said, they do have a very fat cat that I thought was a pillow on my first few visits. So there’s that.

I feel lucky to have two good pet supply stores in walking distance of my apartment. True, the staff doesn’t kiss up as much as some places in the neighborhood, but I don’t need retail workers to grovel and scrape before me in order to have decent self-​esteem. Seriously, if store clerks acting like your equals makes you feel bad, you should be checking Unilocal for therapist reviews, not pet supply stores.
They do an excellent job stocking food. I usually go to the place on Smith Street first, because it’s closer to me and more on my way home from things, but if they are out of what I need, it is always at Beastly Bite.

Nothing but helpful, friendly staff. I Have been coming here since we moved into Carroll Gardens. They order what you need if it’s not in stock. They carry the novel non-​chicken/​beef protein foods my allergic pittie needs. Prices are comparable if not a tiny bit better than other small pet stores in the neighborhood. The staff is not in your face trying to sell you on things, perhaps this is why some have felt underserved here. I do not understand the negative reviews!

This is another one of those «are we all going to the same store» reviews. I totally don’t understand the negative reviews.
I’ve always found the guys in there friendly — they are nice to both my wife and I. As far as prices, I have never compared the price for the big ol bag of cat litter anywhere else, but they are the closest to where I live and the bag is heavy. Cat food. Cat litter. Open late-​ish. Not a corporate chain. Big fat cat lives in store.

The only thing the store has going for it is that they deliver.
Otherwise be ready to pay incredibly inflated prices and contend with the rude, off-​putting staff.
I seriously try to support the local shops over the increasing number of chain stores that are taking over the neighborhood — but Beastly Bite makes it very difficult to care about their continued existence.

Not a fan. They are so rude and have no interest in helping you. I came in looking for a certain kind of food, they didn’t help me look, and the clerk became obviously irritated when my dog peed on the floor and didn’t offer anything but a glare as I cleaned it up. Jerks.

This store is well stocked, clean, and they will deliver. They stock everything we need for our two cats and they have a great selection of the basics like dry food, kitty litter and cat food. The employees are usually knowledgeable, helpful, pleasant and friendly, although late at night they sometimes seem tired, not surprisingly. I too like the atmosphere at Loving Pet Food on Smith Street, but their selection is not as good, and I much prefer the clever name «Beastly BIte.»

I honestly don’t understand the bad reviews for this place, the employees might not «chat you up», but they’re far from being rude. They are always very helpful and friendly whenever I stop in. In fact, my cat need special food for her bladder, that i can’t find anywhere else, and the few times they were out they called their sister store in Carroll Gardens to see if they had any, without me having to ask.
The store itself is very clean and has a good variety of inventory plus I can’t help but love the store cats — adorable

I love this place. I think all the bad reviews are funny (and a lot of them are way old). The guy behind the counter during the week is just shy, and the guy on the weekends is a doll, very chatty. You do have to know what you want if you are ordering a delivery, since there’s no «menu» to order from. I just made a list when I was in the store, and now I can order when I need more, or go by. They have a good inventory and the store is clean. Plus they have lots of store cats that they have rescued — always good, in my book.

This store freaked me out! The employees didn’t say anything when I walked in. They just stood across from each other silent… almost like zombies… not moving… not saying a thing. Glad to read another review that said the same thing!!!
If you want to support the small neighborhood shops, go to Loving Pet Food on Smith!

I love this petstore! The have just about everything and what they don’t, they are happy to get for you. Best part-​EXCELLENT SERVICE! We get large deliveries from them every few weeks and they are pleasant and quick. On weekends, when they are busier, they are honest and promptly call you right back. A refreshing change from those BIG pet stores. Free Delivery too!!!

Love this place. They deliver my dogs food to me the same day for free. I have a really rare type of food I feed my dog, and I love that they offer it. They also have a great selection of treats and toys. They just moved across the street, a little more space, which is a plus. If you live in the area, and have a pet, you have to check out Beastly!

If you don’t mind paying at least 40 cents more per can of (cat) food, while at the same time being treated rudely, shop at Beastly Bite. Seriously! There are so many options in this town, why shop down the block when a few more blocks gets you some good guys, decent prices and a positive experience.

the inventory is good, but the staff sucks.
the same dude is always there, and always on the phone.
if i ask a question, he says ‘i don’t know’ and then keeps talking on the phone.
i used to stop in since it’s right next to Trader Joe’s but now i am boycotting because when i go into a pet store, i want to talk to pet lovers and someone who is knowledgable about the product.
I really like this store right around the corner on Smith St called Loving Pet Food. Staff is extremely helpful and nice, and they always give Ernie a free beef-​lollipop, even if we’re just browsing.

Seems like a decent spot to buy silly things for your pets… went in here and dropped 50 bucks on a new scratching post (which my cat refuses to scratch, ha), cat food, and a realllly fun (for cat and human) toy. I got some good advice about which pet food to buy (I knew Science Diet was not good, but it was explained to me… down with weird preservatives!). Overall, convenient to me from work, has good hours, and can be helpful if poked and prodded a bit.

Overpriced with a shitty selection and rude, disinterested staff. They deliver but if you’re not entirely familiar with the store’s inventory, forget it. They won’t be able to help you much at all.
Two stars because they came through with dog food on moving night, but ugh. I won’t be giving them any more money if I can help it.

The fact that this pet store is the closest one to our apartment is the only reason we shop here. The staff can usually be found hanging out outside of the store with their buddies to the extent that you have to get their attention to alert them to your desire to pay for your items. And they are not very friendly once you do get them behind the counter. We get the most expensive litter and food possible, it seems, so I can’t really comment on prices but I would guess they’re average for a store of this type. As for accoutrements such as, say, litterboxes, the selection is poor and the prices are definitely high. Go online for that kind of thing. That said, this store does deliver, if you’re too lazy to carry your 15-​lb bags home. So that’s a plus, and let’s face it: Do you really need your pet store to be that awesome?
