Super professional and friendly staff. Doctor is so nice, eloquent and very put together.
I came through a referral and was really happy to do so. Eye exam was easy and fast, the doctor explained everything as she went along.
When I came out to pick glasses, the girl at the front was so helpful and knowledgable. She listened to what I wanted and gave me really good suggestions. She was the one who helped me pick the glasses that I got and I am so happy with my purchase.

I have always received courteous, helpful and quick service every time I’ve visited. It seems to be the company model to go above and beyond, which has created a loyal customer. At James Leonard you really get what you paid for, a high quality product from a high quality staff that will stand behind what they sell you.

The optometrist at the Brooklyn location is excellent. The staff and frame selection are equally good.
Thankfully the Brooklyn store in the neighborhood, but I’d travel a long way to go there if I had to.

So I actually found James Leonard online, while shopping for new sunglasses for vacation. I shopped their site, bought the sunglasses and then realized they’re in NYC. I called them and decided I’ll pick up my order and see the place and see what else they have.
Great selection of unique stylish frames. I like it because they set themselves apart in the product that they carry.
Optometrist is also available, thorough and professional. I’d recommend you call ahead of time and check for availability.
Ever so often they have nice stuff on sale, but generally these are luxury frames and will cost a pretty penny. I actually lucked out, bought an expensive dita pair and received a pair of Ray bans for free. Cool and friendly staff. Saved me the shipping from the online order and gave me some free rows. Will shop here again!

James Leonard is absolutely amazing! I arrived, after hours, thanks to my seven year old tearing up the glasses purchased just days before. Despite being closed, Irene welcomed us in and whipped the glasses back into shape within minutes — all with a smile on her face! This shop is awesome!

Came in here to find a pair of sunglasses for our son. When we asked to see some options, we were immediately told that what they had was” not cheap $ 100″. Wow. First, $ 100 is cheap. Secondly, we didn’t even ask for pricing. We just wanted to see options. The guy with the heavy accent literally put the Giggle website in front of us, showed us $ 10 pair of sunglasses on the site, and told us «that’s where you should go». Then when confronted with his rudeness, he tried to back peddle and said that he wasn’t being rude. I’m sorry, but sizing people up and throwing them into the arms of another retailer clearly shows that you are rude and not into customer service.
I would highly recommend going elsewhere. Moscot just opened in Cobble Hill and is worth the trip. If you are into rude service, this is the place for you

Had an exam here for the first time today. Really cute shop, unique collection of frames, and the people are super friendly! Joe at the front desk has good taste in music, and is very personable. Even through that horrible instrument that puffs air in your eye, he was making me laugh. And the doctor was awesome, answering all my questions, citing research and offering up good recommendations. Very streamlined and on time. Highly recommended, glad I found these guys!

I first went to James Leonard as I needed a new pair of specs and I loved the choice of frames. I had tried a few opticians previously and they were either rude, unhelpful or had a bad selection of frames to choose from. I’m glad to say at James Leonard I experienced none of the above. Rather than being told that every frame suits me, I was given an honest opinion and some constructive advice of what to look for in a frame to suit me. Everything from the eye test to the frame fitting was painless and laid back. Pricing is also competitive.
I have since gone back for my contacts.
The staff are a pleasure to deal with and I would highly recommend.

My fiancé got me a gift certificate for James Leonard for my birthday so that I could get prescription sunglasses. I’ve had a lot of trouble getting Rx sunglasses because I have a really strong and difficult prescription, but James Leonard were able to fulfill my order easily, and all I needed to do was bring in a copy of my script (they also offer eye exams on site certain days of the week).
I was very happy with the selection of sunglasses they offered and even had trouble deciding which ones to get. The staff were not only friendly and helpful, but exceedingly knowledgeable. A few days after I submitted my order, I called the store to check to see when they would be ready. I was told that my lenses were scheduled to arrive that afternoon, and my order was made a priority because I was going away over the weekend and wanted to wear the sunglasses. I was able to swing by on my way home from work to pick them up. Because my Rx is so difficult, the glasses were not as dark as I wanted them to be, so I took them back that same day, and they said I could take them for the weekend and just return them the next week to get them darkened, no charge. They are really flexible and accommodating.
Even though the glasses took a bit longer than expected to get darkened, the shop called me to let me know the timeframe and the reason it was taking longer, which I appreciated.
If you ever need sunglasses or glasses, I would highly recommend visiting James Leonard. It’s worth it.

This is a great neighborhood optician. After going to many opticians, we have settled on James Leonard because of their great service and fair prices. In addition to providing us with some excellent advice for our young sons, James Leonard always is available for adjustments on my family’s glasses. I also like their selection of frames…

Irene helped me from all the way out in San Francisco to get Cutler and Gross eyeglass frames hard to come by here. This involved multiple emails per day, photos sent back and forth, and more than several phone conversations over the course of a week. I was blown away by her expertise and patience, and over the course of the week she got to know what I like and had endless energy in helping this very picky person find exactly what I wanted. Great customer care and professionalism!

A web search for a discontinued Bevel style brought up James Leonard Opticians only. I am extremely particular about eyeglasses and this was a big purchase for me, as I was paying out of pocket, so, I had about 10 phone conversations with Joe to hash out the details. Joe is knowledgeable, pleasant to converse with, always called back promptly with the needed information. I made the purchase and am considering to make the lenses there too…(on a side note, for these frames, my local San Francisco bevel dealer couldn’t figure out how to get the color I wanted and would charge $ 200 more for them.) Looking forward to doing more business with J-​Lo.

hands down, the BEST place to get your glasses and, in my case, contacts as well! not only does this place have an awesome frame selection (sunglasses too), the service is AWESOME. if you’re lucky, you’ll meet joe. he’s super nice and friendly. he will totally give you as much time as you need to find your perfect pair. over the years, i’ve probably tried on every frame in the store! i’m never rushed and get honest feedback. and then there’s dr. james leonard, himself. he’s awesome too. he really takes the time to explain everything that’s going on and answers all your questions.
lastly, they will def go out of their way and will work with you to get the best deal possible.
luckily, these guys are right near me but even if i moved back to manhattan (which i probably never will), there’s no doubt i’d keep going to james leonard!

I was in the market for new frames, but didn’t really expect to find anything when I walked in here. Much to my surprise though, after months of searching, I finally found my new pair of glasses here. The two people working here were maybe the friendliest and most helpful salespeople I’ve ever met. Normally when salespeople start talking to me, I’m like, uh, please leave me alone now and forever, but these two have a very informative, disarming way about them. They have a good, patient eye for fit and fashion, unlike other places I’ve been, where some lady jams some monstrosity on my face, seemingly at random, and tries to convince me it’s perfect. I’m extremely picky about glasses, but these guys eventually helped me narrow it down to two very nice, affordable pairs here – when I hadn’t been able to find a single pair I liked anywhere else. And while I did eventually end up picking the more expensive option, they certainly didn’t force me into it. More than that, I was happy to give them more of my money. Highly recommended.

I have purchased both my regular glasses and sunglasses here, with a great experience on both occasions. The specific frames I had in mind for my regular glasses were not in stock, but they called in and ordered them while I was in the store and I had them in my hands less than a week later! Sunglasses I took home same day as purchased!
I checked around with the other shops in the neighborhood, and from the info I got over the phone, this one was the most reasonably priced. There was also a pretty good coupon on the website that I took with me and was redeemed without a problem. Staff has been friendly and helpful every time I have been there (including stopping in to get my frames readjusted a few days after picking them up), and has been very good at helping me find what I want within the price range I ask for.
