My 7 year old has his Trail class last week Saturday and we are loving it. This studio feels caring, we didn’t feel like just a number and Mr. Acousta does have a way with the children and getting them to be their best! He went in timid and shy and left loud and proud. We are looking forward to the group class !

Mr Acosta prefers to take a different approach to teaching little ones about MMA. His approach is one about focus(obviously… It’s in the name!), it’s about discipline, about encouragement, redirecting and POSITIVE words. Classes start as early as 3yrs old. Much like a gym, you are free to take classes on any day of the week that is offered for your age group. This is perfect for little ones because if they get sick on one day, I’m free to skip our preferred class and attend class another day without having to pay a penalty fee. Class rates are highly affordable and extend out for six months. After enrolling our twins, I found out the third person in the household would be free… So… guess who else will be taking MMA ;) If all this isn’t enough to be sold, I highly suggest trying out the class with the great deal they currently offer: For $ 20 you get the first two classes and your gi(uniform). Sweet!

The instructor is great with kids, and knows how to get the most unruly youngster to focus on self-control while still having fun. It’s not just for classes — he also occasionally offers little field trips. Anything to keep them out of your hair for an afternoon, right? For adults, this is an awesome place to get a great workout while having fun. No one is training to become a professional fighter, just to stay in shape, learn a practical skill, and have a good time. The people are friendly and the workouts are hard. You can do a free class to see whether you like it, but make sure you call first to let the instructor know. Last I checked, adult classes were at 6:45pm every weeknight(no Friday class), and 1:30pm on Saturday. Perfect for coming after a stressful work day.

I have been studying with Mr. Acosta for about 6 months now. He’s an awesome martial artist and instructor. Every class is intense but friendly with a great mix of stand-up and ground game practice. You get a lot of personal attention and the other students are all helpful, humble, and a pleasure to study with. A wonderful experience all-around.

I’ve been going here for a couple months, and really enjoying it. I’ve done short stints in Karate and Hapkido, but this one seems to be sticking. The class is a great mix of fitness and technique –Michael has pulled together a great group of people of varying ages and levels and has a knack for getting everyone to push themselves, and not worry too much about how they stack up. He’s tough on bad technique, and praises both good technique and a respectable effort. Even after a couple months I still leave most classes with some sore muscles, which is great. If you want a class that’s rigorously technique focussed, where you get your fitness and strength training elsewhere, this might not be for you, but I find it to be a great balance.

Born and raised in Williamsburg, I have seen a lot of change in the area. Most of the changes are good changes and Focus Mixed Martial Arts are one of them. FMMA offers a variety of martial arts classes to anyone who is interested at great payment options. It is affordable and you get your money’s worth. These classes may be tailored to fit what your needs are and what your focus is. For example, discipline, self– defense, a great workout, engaging in the belt program. It is located on Havemeyer street which is only a few blocks from either the J M Z trains or the G and L trains. Mr. Michael Acosta is the instructor for FMMA. His knowledge in mixed martial arts is quite evident and his ability to teach a class shows that he is dedicated to his work. He is attentive to his students and motivates them to become the best that they can be. «Last one. Best one, Sir.» He is amazing with children and teaches them not only the arts of the craft but respect and discipline needed to achieve in life. As for the ambiance, with 12 children shouting and demonstrating karate techniques in an afternoon class, the ambiance is quite animated. Anyone of any age group may take his class; you will learn more about the craft and a lot more about yourself. With his classes and his prices, it is as good as it gets.
