Fleisher’s Craft Butchery

Incredible steaks. Wasn’t sure if it’d be worth the price tag, but after grilling the denver and the sirloin, the difference with your local supermarket butchery is like night and day. Their ground meat is also top notch, and allowed me to grill my personal best, burgerwise. Never had an issue with the service. Will be back for more.

Amazing quality meats, bought Thanksgiving turkey from them (was great!). Love the duck fat and the eggs. Never knew meats can have so much flavor. A bit expensive, but i guess all great things come with a price.

Fleisher Craft Butchery provides the best meat products available in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Each time I shop there I feel like I am getting the variety and quality that I’d expect of a high-​end butcher. You are paying for quality here and its worth it. I’ve purchased large portions of brisket twice and its always top quality. Highly recommended. Really happy I found this place in my neighborhood. I wish they’d open up a fish place with the same quality and selection.

went in the shop on a very busy xmas eve after a meat counter debacle at Whole Foods and was pleasantly surprised. I asked for short rib on the bone and dude brought out two huge flintstone sized ribs and started sawing away. he trimmed the fat cap and cut me some lovely short ribs and the price was $ 8.99 which was two dollars cheaper than Whole Foods. Service was expedient and friendly in spite of the xmas crowds. I will return.

I’ll preface this by saying I’ve had only one experience here but the service was notably poor. The butcher was unhelpful (and unsympathetic to my questions) and the teller was downright rude. All of this could be forgiven if they weren’t charging materially more for their fair than your run of the mill butcher.
If you are going to consider yourself a craft butcher, and you’re are going to charge a premium on your product, back it up by providing quality service.
I suggest going to the japanese butcher on bond for luxury beef. They may not speak english, but at least they’re friendly.

I stopped in here to ask a few quick questions about raw food for my pet.
When I walked in, I was completely ignored by all the employees, who all seemed young and much too busy cleaning up to get out of there.
After a few minutes looking around, a girl with brown hair in a ponytail, whose attention managed to break away from wiping down some stainless steel shelf, turned around. I asked her if they had familiarity with raw food for dogs. She looked at me like I had two heads and immediately, with a heavy attitude, said, «There’s a ten pound minimum.» I asked a follow up question, and this snobby b*t*h replied with an even heavier attitude and condescending tone. She turned away as she started angrily wiping her shelf again. I immediately left.
This was my first (and last) experience with this shop. I won’t be buying from this place that seems to be run by a bunch of snobby, lazy sh*ts who hate their jobs.

They are definitely the best butcher I’ve found in the area. A great variety and big selection of humanely raised meats. Their pasture raised whole chickens are amazing. They also have a great selection of homemade sausages and stocks. Order early during holiday seasons!

A year ago, this place would have had a five star rating from me. now it’s closer to 3 ½: the reasonable prices have been put to pasture. You can buy a humanely-​raised fresh chicken from Union Market for two-​thirds the price that one costs here. And at $ 9.99 a pound for lower quality cuts like London Broil, you’re looking at a really expensive dinner to feed your family and friends.
The quality is of course top notch. The meat all seems to be humanely-​raised. and the rotisserie chicken, which always looks a little dry, still garners rave reviews. But given the price point, I’ll be going here a bit less often.

Fantastic free range organic meat, knowledgable and approachable staff, reasonable prices. They can do just about any cut, just ask.

Walked in to buy a pound of lean ground beef and I asked the guy behind the counter about the fat/​lean ratio. Another worker standing nearby snickers and makes a snide comment about diet-​obsessed Park Slope housewives. Just for the record: I’m a single woman who cooks meals for a diabetic family member with high blood-​pressure, and I made the trip all the way from Crown Heights to shop in your store.
That was also the second time I’d had an experience like that in their store. The first time, one of the workers told me I was being paranoid when I asked the same question about a cut of meat. No thank you. I don’t understand the cause for this kind of attitude over a simple transaction. Especially as a woman those assumptions made me very uncomfortable.

Organic butcher shop in Park slope fits well in the neighborhood. I understand that they offer high quality meat but the price is a bit more then I would spend on Meat.
I am sure that many would disagree and I am sure it’s worth buying high quality meat but you can find good high quality meat elsewhere at a more reasonable price
I personally prefer Halal butcher shops, the meat is fresh and tender, I am sure that this butcher shop offers higher quality meat but I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost.

Grabbed a decent pastrami sandwich for $ 10 at Red Hook Crit, but the pickle was odd and the portion a bit absurdly small (Yes, even for pastrami, for such a Brooklyn-​ish butcher).

I came here a couple weeks ago and the display case was damn near bare with prices far beyond what a normal human should pay for ground beef. On top of that the only form of communication I got from behind the counter was from some hipster beard yelling if I was ready. Put your pride in your back pocket and just go straight to key foods.

I strolled in after reading two articles on cast iron skillets. One was about a cast iron skillet challenge where the author described the versatility of cooking solely with his lodge skillet, and the other was a times article on using your cast iron skillet to cook steak at home. Both articles convinced me to whip out the lodge and give it a go.
And so that’s why I walked out with a pound of dry aged top sirloin (around $ 20 which is probably expensive, but as I don’t cook meat often it doesn’t feel like a splurge). The service was wonderful too, so not sure why there were reviews mentioning the standoffishisness… I’m very happy!

Today, many consumers are still fooled by gravitating towards «local» «organic» meats, where they are paying the same, if not more, for something that was fattened with corn and other grains. Fleisher’s is the Real Deal Holyfield. Some will call them «expensive», however, next time, when you are in Whole Foods, ask the butcher to see which meats are Grass Fed, and then ask the butcher why it’s only 5% of the display case, and 30% more than something «local». Fleisher’s is both LOCAL and GRASS FED, put that in your pipe.
Try their sausages and chorizo, da bomb.

Charming neighborhood butcher! Real old school feeling. As soon as you walk in, the smell in here is delicious. They definitely know what they’re doing.
After some himming and hawing with my friend this evening about what kind of meat to make for dinner (they have EVERYTHING — lamb chops, flank steak, rotisserie chicken) we decided on two portions of tender sirloin. In addition to being $ 12.99/lb the meat was tenderized onsite by one of the employees (*ask them to tenderize — they will!*).
We then got to the register and just about gasped. We had a good portion between the two of us and our total was $ 8.57!!! Holy cow.
I will definitely be back. ASAP.

Really helpful staff at this great butcher. Awesome products and when they are out of an item they will suggest a great substitution. I have learned to use new cuts of meats for cooking and this I really appreciate. I love all of their sausages. The best overly priced rotisserie chicken in NYC. Juicy and flavorful. Two issues with this place– one they don’t have bacon? I always have to go somewhere else when stopping in here cause they don’t have bacon. Second, the prices. Listen, I will pay for good food. Recently i bought pork belly here and it came to $ 40. It just felt like way to much, I appreciate sustainable/​grass fed/​grain finished blah blah but $ 40 for a not fancy slice of meat is a lot!

Beautiful small shop but offering all you might need from sausages to freshly made stock to roasted chicken to any cut you might like. Absolutely a Must for high quality organic meat, definitely a Gourmet meat shop on 5^th Avenue. It’s more than 4 stars but I am not used to give 5 stars after only one time ;-) I will be back to buy more cuts!

A lot of people have commented that Fleisher’s has rather high prices. To this I would reply: $ 6.49/lb for grass-​fed, very high quality ground beef.
Fleisher’s does sell beef tenderloin for $ 37/​lb, but this price isn’t much higher than Whole Foods – whose meats I generally find inferior to Fleisher’s – and the prices on most items are competitive with other high quality butchers.
Besides their superb, and bargain priced, grass-​fed ground beef, I’ve also tried their bacon. It is heavenly and better than almost any of the other bacons I – a connoisseur of bacon if nothing else – have eaten. Their roast beef is the best I’ve ever had: it’s succulent with a distinct flavor and no squishy beefiness. Their sausages are quite well made but I haven’t been very impressed with the taste on the few occasions I’ve bought them.
They also stock eggs from a local farm. These are the best eggs you will ever eat in your life. And they ought to be at $ 6.50/dozen. They have a fresh, sweet flavor and turn out perfectly fried or hard boiled.
Their space is rather cramped and they could use a few more on staff on weekends, but other than that I’ve been very happy with the service at Fleisher’s and the quality of the product.

Limited selection, high-​quality product at a steep price. Any bacon that costs $ 14 a pound should be sliced to order, not pre-​sliced, which it is at Fleisher’s. Brats and sausages are hit and miss, with the smokey and flavorful chorizo standing out as a notable hit. Aside from its convenience to Park Slope straphangers/​stragglers, this place has little, if any, advantage over Paisano’s in neighboring Carol Gardens.
Nonetheless, I’ll be back for lazy Sunday Stew ingredients. Too close to home not to.

Sigh. I really wish I could give Fleisher’s a better rating, but alas, it is what it is. The meat quality is very good — there is no quibble about that. However, I have virtually never walked in here and left with what I actually wanted to purchase, and I’m not looking to purchase anything unusual: today it was chicken breast with the skin on and ribs. Neither were there. Last time, it was any version of country ribs or pork shoulder. The previous time it was lamb chops. The time before that… and so on.
I plan my meals like most people do: In the morning, I find something I want to cook for that night or maybe the next day and I buy all of what I need that I don’t already have at home. It is a total buzz kill to choose a recipe based on what we’ve received in that week’s CSA or whatever is seasonal, only to have the main ingredient not be available. We also live more than half a mile from Fleisher’s, and their hours frankly stink (11 am is usually when life with a toddler means you are on the way home, not just getting started), so I don’t have a chance to call them before I arrive to ask if they have what I need. I have truly never NOT been disappointed, and I have always ended up buying something that I really didn’t ultimately want for lack of better options.
Today, I probably spent triple what I would have spent had they actually had the ribs I wanted, and I’m really in a funk about it. Yes, I know this is a whole animal purveyor and thus, you get what’s available. I support their mission, but it doesn’t mean they have met my needs as a customer. I am tired of walking a mile and ending up either empty handed or empty pocketed.
What they SHOULD do is offer phone order and delivery. For those of us who try to give them our business but can’t wait until after 11 to find out whether they’ll have what we need and then still have to walk a mile to get there, let us call, and you deliver it at a specified drop off time for a nominal fee. If you don’t have it? Well, then I haven’t wasted the morning and I can go someplace else.
Barring that, we will not be returning to Fleisher’s with any regularity, I’m sorry to say. I can still get thoughtfully raised and butchered meat in various locations in lower Manhattan or even at Fresh Direct, and at least I’ll know what I need will be there. And I won’t end up leaving with something I didn’t want for a far dearer fee.

Meat. It’s just not for wearing, making puppets, or hiding. And with Fleisher’s, Brooklyn now has the first outpost of the Kingston-​NY famous* butchery.
Featuring locally (Hudson Valley — not Park Slopian) sourced, grass-​fed, hormone and antibiotic-​free meat (obviously Park Slopians are full of hormones, and many are grass fed — especially those working at Rite Aid).
In this shop, shiny glass cases are filled with chicken, sausages, platters of pork products and my favorite — the «window of beef» (my phrase, not theirs). Part of their ethos is head-​to-​tail homage, so every part (me thinks) is available to go.
But be sure to bring your visa card, because meat this spectacular is Prada priced. The devil (or Ga Ga) might wear it, but I’m eating mine for dinner.
