Farmer In the Deli

So glad I didn’t bring lunch today. I went to farmer in the deli & got the chopped tuna. It’s always the best tuna salad chopped in front of you. Can’t wait to leave my lunch home again

Their hero’s are so good and si much meat theyake the best I just wish they had different choices of bread they would be even better.

Another quite convenient deli. They have a wide variety of drinks and the service is chill but efficient.

Bang for the buck this place has been the gold standard on Myrtle Ave. for many many years. If you have to you could knock a man down with one of their heroes Much love.

Am I ordering the wrong thing? Don’t get me wrong the sandwich tastes like a sandwich, and all, but to loudly proclaim it’s the great thing ever is overkill.
Again, the sandwich tasted… like a sandwich.
This place is maddening because of the other people in line. Everyone is screaming at the deli people about the number of tomatoes on their sandwich, or «NOT TOO MUCH MAYO» or how to cut it, or the color the meat should be, or because a fly just landed on the table that all the sandwiches «HAVE TO BE REMADE!»
EVERYONE — SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. QUIET. IT’S. GOING. TO. BE. OKAY.
Also, Deli Man, if you get a tip or you’re handling money, you gotta put on a new plastic glove. Handling money with a plastic glove defeats the purpose of the glove.

What looks like your run of the mill corner bodega is a whole lot more. Super thinly sliced boars head meat piled to the sky. You can taste the freshness in the stuff they use, which only comes from turnover. It’s easily the best deli sandwich I’ve had in the lower five boroughs (all but the Bronx). No ham, but plenty of turkey and beef options available.

I went here for lunch with a friend during our lunch break at work. It looks like any other convenience shop both inside and outside (no bells and whistles here!) but my friend insisted I would not be disappointed. We waited in a decent sized line before placing our orders. They had three guys working that build your sandwich right in front of you (no assembly lines). They have a ton of turkey, roast beef, chicken, and other delicious cold cuts to order, with your choice of bread-​cheese-​veggies-​condiments. The sandwiches are enormous and the meat is piled on an inch thick minimum. Bear in mind that when you order anything here (meat, cheese, condiment) it comes with a lot… maybe be important to note if you just want a tiny bit of mayo or something. The cold cuts taste especially fresh and flavorful. We saw someone get a chopped sandwich (where turkey was chopped right in front of her with various veggies and a sauce and then put right on the sandwich) which looked unique and delicious!
There isn’t anywhere to eat in here but we found a bench nearby to chow down as much of our big sandwiches as our bellies could handle. Would be a good place to grab sandwiches to bring to Fort Greene park, just another two or three blocks down Myrtle.

We choose this deli because of it’s excellent ratings and because we wanted food after 1am. The sandwiches were fantastic and so cheap!
The man who made our sandwiches was nice and helpful, as well as generous. It looked like he cut almost a half a pond of Cajun roast beef for my sandwich, which cost only $ 5.49. He loaded it up with vegetables and it was so tasty. Would return again, early or late.

I’m not sure how and why these sandwiches are so good, since most of the other stores in the area use the same brands. I assume these sandwiches are tasty due to the packing. I noticed that they put the condiments and toppings on first, then they add tons of thinly sliced cold cuts. Either way the sandwiches receive 5 stars from me!

I’ve been coming here since the late 80’s, not so much over the past several years, The neighborhood has changed considerably, and so has the store in terms of appearance. But at its core, they still do what they do best — «build sandwiches.» Tuna is cracked from the can and hand chopped with whatever you ask for (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, etc). Cold cut portions are still ample, although not like it was back in the day when people would ask them not to pile on so much meat, or go home and make a second sandwich. I’m not sure that this spot is nearly as popular as it was back in the day because of gentrification and multiple trendy options in the area appealing to gentrified tastes. (Yes, I miss the old Fort Greene).

The have by far the best sandwiches. Fresh and plentiful. Whenever I’m in town, I make sure I get a sandwich.

On the outside it may look like a regular corner store in Brooklyn. On the inside it does too. lol… but what makes this place special is they are superb sandwiches. They are able to customize a hero pretty much whatever way you wish. They have a great selection of mean and garnishment. The staff is friendly and swift. And it will customize your sandwich to whatever desire to have… The only downside is the lines are long, because the sandwiches are in high demand. And its not in my neighborhood lol. Great lunch spot if your on the go. be prepared to stand in line for peak hours.

I love that the sandwiches here are good and inexpensive. Rumor has it that this is where Notorious B. I. G. came to get a sandwich but not at this location.

This place is an awesome deli. Their sandwiches will change your life. I love them. They build them so nicely. You can stand there watching it and pick what you want and don’t want on it and the people who work here are super friendly, especially with children, and just nice in general. It’s right down the street from me and opened ²⁴⁄₇ so no matter what time you want a sandwich, you can have it and they aren’t real expensive at all. I would recommend their hero tuna or hero cajun turkey sandwich… sooo good!

OK, everyone loves Farmer in the Deli.
For me, I’ve loved it all of my life. I grew up just around the corner, and many days, my family would pick up sandwiches and cold salads from this place for lunch.
Brooklyn, and especially Fort Greene, has changed a lot since I was a kid, but the one thing that hasn’t, is Farmer in the Deli. Sure, a few years back, they dropped pork products to stay Halal (I do miss their salami sandwiches), but their sandwiches are perfection, and taste just like they did when I was a kid. So this is my soul food.
They’re cheap, open late. If you go very late, you make your order through a plastic, bulletproof plastic turnstile out front. The major detraction can be the line for a sandwich if you come when they’re busy. These sandwiches draw in a lot of people, and frankly, a lot of unpleasant people (once had a guy on the line threaten the guy behind the counter that he’d be coming back with his ‘AK’). But the sandwiches are worth it, and if you go often enough, you know when to come and avoid the lines (plus, these sandwiches only get better when you let them sit a while).
The guys behind the counter usually take their time with sandwiches, so they do it right (and that’s not to say they’re slow, but as you’ll read, there’s a process). That being said, given the plastic over the counter, keep an eye on the sandwich and make sure they heard what you said… just don’t be a micromanaging dick about it, these people know what they’re doing.
You tell them the cold cut and cheese that you want. They cut the roll, and slice the meat and cheese (and they stuff A LOT into a sandwich). You tell them what toppings you want (peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, hot peppers, etc.), along with mustard or mayonnaise (and this is tricky– they usually add a lot of mayo, and no mustard, so if you want mustard, or a little mayo, or mustard and a little mayo, be specific). You can get vinegar, oil, salt, and pepper put on it.
Personally, I usually get a cracked pepper turkey with pepper jack cheese on a hero, with everything on top (aside from black olives– they only just added them recently to try and compete with the Subway farther up Myrtle Ave), a VERY little mayo, and some mustard, along with vinegar, oil, salt and pepper, and a large order of potato or macaroni salad, or coleslaw.
Lots of the enthusiasm around Brooklyn cuisine is around twee farm to table garbage they overcharge you for, but Farmer in the Deli is a rare pleasure, and a truly native delicacy. I’ve discussed it with many friends, and from humble, common ingredients, the unique sandwich craftsmanship of this place creates a superior sandwich. If you’re going to be upset about getting Boar’s Head on a plain hero, don’t come here. If you want a delicious sandwich at a reasonable price, this is your spot.

Best sandwich in Fort Greene/​Clinton Hill. It doesn’t get any better than this. When they say «We build sandwiches», they mean it. And all sandwiches less than $ 5. The only negative is that the line can be really long at times, but if you time it right, you won’t be disappointed.
All Boars Head deli meats, but no ham, so don’t go asking looking like a fool.
if you didn’t know, they have whole wheat rolls, and you can also ask for double meat which will be massive and all under $ 6. If you want to try something different, try a chopped sandwich!
My favorite: Buffalo chicken, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalepenos, sweet pepers, chopped up on a whole wheat roll. Mmm.

I was excited to try a sandwich here. Would it live up to the hype???
My friend and I ventured here. We were both set on bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Well… the grill closed at noon, they don’t have pork, and they were out of cheddar. I got a roast beef sandwich on croissant with muenster, mustard, and tomato. She got a turkey sandwich on croissant with mayo, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwiches were piled with meat. We had waited in line for a long time. Then we headed to the park. Then I opened up my sandwich. It looked amazing. And took a bite. Succulent, the perfect amount of each ingredient, all of which were fresh. AMAZING!!!

I’ve been coming to this deli my whole life and loved it since day 1. They have taken the classic deli sandwich and amped it to a whole new level.
If you are one of those gluten free, «Where was this bread baked and what time?» kind of people go to Connecticut muffin.
They chop the sandwich up. Seems simple. Like «this couldn’t make a difference in flavor»
WRONG-​O!
It mushes (yes mushes) all the flavors together so at no point are you getting a whole tomato in one bite, throwing off the equilibrium of the sandwich/​salad.
If you happen to be on a low-​carb kick, the odds are forever in your favor because they can put the chopped up goodness in a bowl.
Don’t tell them how much of anything to put on the sandwich. These culinary engineers know exactly what they’re doing and they don’t need you pointing over the glass.
In case you care I order: honey turkey, cheddar, L&T, hot peppers and of course mayo
DO NOT attempt to sub mustard for mayo its not going to work. Just stick to the script kid.
