Our café brings you a complete New Zealand-​style Pie Shop/​Café experience including some of the best handmade, authentic gourmet meat (or vege) pies & espresso-​based coffee (Flat Whites a specialty) — north of the equator.

We also have NZ inspired sweets, candy and a small selection of groceries.

We present local artists on our café walls and we offer NZ music for sale in-​store.

History

Established in 2003.

DUB Pies (The Pie Shop’s parent company) was, originally, a peripatetic wholesale bakery from Manhattan’s Lower East Side. We had sevearal bases of operations including the dark basement confines of the Chelsea Markets before moving to Brooklyn (2005), which we now call home.

Founder, Gareth Hughes, had been pining for the meat pies that Kiwis and Aussies grow up eating as a staple. Having moved to the USA in 1996 and having found nothing to sate that appetite he learned to make them himself — and Down Under Bakery (DUB) Pies — was born.

It is not an overstatement to say that, in New Zealand & Australia, meat pies eclipse the importance that burgers, pizza and hot dogs (combined) hold in the USA food-​scape.

The Pie Shop is our flagship retail location. Our pies are now USDA approved and can be purchased wholesale by contacting us through our website.

Meat pie shop near prospect park, delicious flakey crusts filled with a variety of choices. I tried the mince and cheese and it was life changing, I shared it and we dive in so quickly I didn’t get to snap a pic of it. Definitely a place I will frequent again!

mince and cheese pis is Awesome!!! really tasty it’s $ 6.50 and the size of the pis is just right to eat and fill me up. large options of coffee and tea. I had Milo (Malted chocolate) and ordered drip coffee togo! nice spot! really enjoyed music while sitting and relax

Wow! This place has changed. I loved their Thai chicken pie and had it may times before. I had it again today after many months and it was just terrible. Completely loaded with salt and little flavor. I don’t think I’ll be visiting here again. Sad to say, but true…

The Hemsworth Brothers are the second best gift Australia has ever given the world. The first are savory pies.
I like to think of myself as a pot pie connoisseur – stick anything in a flaky crust and I’m on board. This also means that I’ve tried several pot pies all over the city, and trust me when I say that DUB pies makes some of the best pies you can get in NYC. Every pie here is delicious, satisfying, and served to you HOT (I may have burned my mouth on several occasions in my eagerness to eat). In the mornings, I recommend opting for a spinach & feta roll – my favorite of the bunch. Its flaky, perfect for on-​the-​go, and the best parts are the small edges where feta has oozed out and browned to a crisp. For an afternoon snack, you can’t go wrong with the good ol’ chicken and mushroom, but if you’re feeling adventurous – try the Beef brisket or the Thai chicken curry for a little kick. There’s literally a pie here for any craving. Sweet, savory, spicy – you name it, they’ll have a pie for it.
And as if DUB Pies hasn’t already contributed to my admiration enough, they’ve got great coffee. Sorry Hemsworths, but Down Under Bakery deserves the spotlight on this one.

This is a neat little local spot if you like pie. I’m not too big of a fan, but I did stop by for a coffee-​$ 2.50 for a drip. Good price, good coffee, what more can you ask? Will come back to try a pie someday.

A cozy little spot that can be missed easily but definitely a good place to relax and enjoy many of their delicious pies.
The Shepard pie and Apple pie are the best of the bunch, although all are very good. What makes this place stand out is their crust on their pies. A good combination of flakiness and doughiness that satifies all the taste buds.

I decided to write the review after my 3rd visit over the course of 6 months.
Today I got the veggie curry pie, which was $ 6.50. What kind of veggies did they put into this pie? Frozen peas and carrots. Yes that is right, the kind that come in a big olé freezer bag. I could not believe that I just paid $ 6.50 for this. The crust has been consistently mushy every time as well.
My first visit last year was just okay, not bad enough to warrant not giving it another try. They should at least put some high quality fresh veggies into this veggie curry pie.

Had a really bad craving for some meat pies, so I found my way to DUB pies. The shop itself is tiny. I ordered about 3 different pies: Shepherd’s, Steak and Cheddar, and Chicken and Veggie. I also had one of the highly reviewed flat white coffees.
The pies were amazing. I have never had meat pies of this caliber before. They were sized just right, one pie per person. Crust was flaky and delicate, shell was sturdy enough to not fall apart as you eat the pie. The filling was savory and delectable.
The coffee was mighty expensive, I feel as if it was just okay. Not worth getting regularly.
Staff was friendly and accomadating.
All in all, I will definitely come back for the meat pies.

Pie Shop Review: I first heard of DUB Pies via the Men in Blazers. I trekked out to Brooklyn to try them.
The storefront is in a quaint neighborhood right next to a park. The inside is tight, but it’s nice. It’s like a local coffee shop.
The food was DELICIOUS! I ordered a mince pie and having savored every last bite I spontaneously decided to get a second one. The pies are perfect sized. Just enough to satisfy your pie cravings but not to keep you stuffed. I am impressed with Th pastry crust, it was so flakey and good.
America needs to embrace savory pie, DUB Pies is on their way to starting the movement.

This review is for the TRUCK. I got the Shepherd’s pie and apple pie and was not impressed. The shepherd’s was half cold or frozen inside (the meat) and the ‘mashed potatoes’ on top were just a overt crisped removable lid. Think a sewer lid popping open — and yes, that hard. The second star is only for the apple pie which was redeemable but a little on the mushy side and a bit too sweet.
Plus I waited a good 20 minutes for a cold pie which I didn’t get. He said 10 mins which I was cool with but at least give me some hot food man! PASS!

Got a little nostalgic from missing my friends in New Zealand (love my Kiwis) where I was introduced to the great meat pies. I have been living in Kensington for 2 years now (Manhattan chick haha). One of my buddies introduced me to Dub Pies and boy was I happy! What I love is that just a three stop train ride from Prospect Park so that always makes me happy. But getting back to the food, the meat pies are delicious and the coffee is also good. I love a good cold brew in any season so that’s always a plus. Definitely going to come back for more deliciousness.

Reasons DUB pies is awesome:
–they sell an assortment of Dough doughnuts, which are pretty much some of the best in NYC
–conveniently located near the park in Park Slope, so you can go on a nice walk before/​after eating your yummy treats
–variety of sweet vs. savory pies
–good coffee
–nice staff

–cash only. I understand, but I hate it.
–the pies could maybe have a higher inside filling to pie crust ratio (though the crust IS good)

Yum! I bought the mince and cheddar and a sausage roll. Both brought me back to oz. now, where is the ketchup?
The iced long black is fab too. Only that the size is too tiny for a large.

This tiny place is a hidden gem. I’ve only had the savory pies, but I’ve yet to find one that I don’t like. The best of the best is the Thai Chicken, which is perfectly spicy. The curry vegetable is another treat, with the heat turned down a bit. The different variations on minced pie are all serviceable, but the mince and cheese edges out the victory there.
What’s perfect about the place is that you can get any of their pies frozen, allowing you to enjoy DUB pies whenever, even if you live far away like me.

DUB Pies is awesome! This little corner spot offers a nice little treat. I ordered the peaches & cream mini pie. It cost 5 bucks. It’s about the size of a palm. Not too small not too big! I must say it was nice. No hard crust, that you would find with traditional pies. It more on the soft and creamy side. What a way to stand out! I am truly a fan.

Rude and sloooowww service. The pie? Idk I’m still waiting for it, they set the expectations that it would be ready between 5 – 10 minutes. After 15 minutes I had to wade through the line to ask what was going on with the order. They said it was still 10 degrees off (which means nothing to me about wait time) so I asked how much longer and they said probably another 5 minutes. Let’s see if it is even worth the wait…
Ate the Ned Kelly Pie. Not enough beef, cool in the middle, salty and very doughy. If Jimmy Dean made a breakfast pie you hit it on the head.

Updating to 5 stars, as this place never disappoints. Always a delicious cup of coffee, from the basic brew to their espresso drips. The guys at the counter are still as sweet as ever.
I finally tried a pie!!! I got the breakfast BEC pie which was heaven. I should have probably reheated it when I ate it at the office, but my hangover hunger didn’t allow me to. So good. SO GOOD.

In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have gotten this on a warm day. Don’t get me wrong — it was delicious. But the steak mince and cheese pie was quite filling and on the heavier side. I would like to come back and try a curry version.
The iced coffee was cheap and really good too — I would actually come back just for that.
The desserts are coconut-​based.
Note: Don’t look at the filling when you eat the steak mince pie — not so aesthetically appealing… just trust me
I didn’t realize that’s Australian/​New Zealand food — interesting!

Came here because I was hungry and my next meal would be a few hours away. Needed to buy something portable to walk with and since i’ve never really had a meat pie… thought i’d try one
I got the steak and mushroom. First thing to note, it has a good amount of mushroom. Perfect, I like mushroom. Second thing is the steak is more like… pot roast kind of steak. It was some real meat and not too stingy either!
Overall it was good! It wasnt like. fresh from the oven type (the crust was a little too dense for that… if it was flaky and crispy. omg would be 5 stars) but it was pretty damn good. A tad bit expensive but you pay for the novelty of it being the only place of its type around.
Try it out, I dont think you’ll be disappointed :)

We ordered the mince meat & cheese pies and the veggie curry pies — shipped from Brooklyn to the northern reaches of Westchester.
You get twelve (12) two-​inch pies per bag. They arrived the next morning in a temperature controlled box, which costs extra, but only once — the box can be returned for re-​use (and then you get your next order’s box free).
Delicious! Fantastic appetizers for any party!
