Business Owner

David Maundrell is President and founder of apt​sandlofts​.com. Starting from a small 550 square foot office in an industrial section of North Williamsburg in October of 2002, David’s vision for the company is to simply «Keep it Real» with a goal of providing clients with highest level of marketing services for their properties but also to provide his customers with the same level of service in a down to earth approachable manner. This vision has enabled apt​sandlofts​.com to become one of the largest and recognizable privately owned Real Estate brands in Brooklyn today.

A native of Williamsburg Brooklyn and a lifelong Brooklyn resident, David cares deeply about not only real estate in Brooklyn but also the neighborhoods as a whole and is involved with multiple neighborhood charities. Professionally, David is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and is a member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Real Estate and Development Committee.

My salesperson was Gabrielle. She showed up 10 minutes late for my appointment and quickly showed me the apartment then we started back to her office to complete the application process. The apartment was $ 2k per month, I make well into six figures and told her I had all the docs to prove this: bank stubs, pay stubs, tax returns etc. She then asked if I «had substantial assets». This kind of threw me off as I was unaware that one needed «substantial assets» for $ 2k apt.
I told her my application was strong and that I could provide all application materials proving it. We got back to her office, I handed her my application and processing fee in cash. She pushed my application and cash right back to me saying «I’m sending applications to the landlord this afternoon, let’s see where they land»
I left her office immediately feeling profiled and disregarded. I just couldn’t understand why I received this treatment other than the brown tone of my skin. The next day I get an email from Gabrielle telling me that she’s too busy and she wanted to hand me to another broker. I called her boss to file a complaint and was told «this isn’t the way we do business I will talk to her and she won’t have a job if she keeps this up».
But obviously she wasn’t fired for the way she handled me and that is the way they do business.

The exact opposite of everything you hate about NY brokers. Emily was fast, dynamic and available. She drove us around Brooklyn in the worst weather and was very patient, friendly and a pleasure to be with. Eventually something else came along, through a friend, but otherwise I would definitely would have booked through her so should you.

I worked with Davida Tretout when looking for an apartment. I didn’t reach out to aptsandlofts directly, but met Davida on checking out an apartment I saw on craigslist. From that point on, she was very dedicated to finding me a great place and really took my desires to heart when looking for places.
She was very communicative, responding to emails quickly and often (several times a day), and it really felt like she was trying to treat me as if I was her only client. The one time she was late due to traffic, she kept me updated with her status, which I really appreciated.
Though I have not moved yet, Davida had a great relationship with the landlord of the apartment I chose, who was also a pretty quirky, cool guy. It felt like because Davida had a good rapport with him, she was able to quickly transfer that goodwill to me, as well.
I’d highly recommend working with Davida if you have the chance!

We worked with David of aptsandlofts when we looked for an apartment in LIC this past fall. We arranged to meet with him at Gantry Park Landing and confirmed the meeting with his office, but he didn’t meet us for 45 minutes after our specified time, at which point we had to leave (had other series of meetings at other buildings for apt showings). Anyway, he’s your standard slick broker-​type. Friendly but definitely slick. We ended up liking an apartment at a building that used his broker services, but we felt that he wasn’t 100% forthcoming with the details of services available at the building and building amenities. For example, we were told we would be able to pay rent via credit card (love those points!), but he specifically (conveniently?) left out the detail about a $ 63/​monthly fee to pay by credit card. We were also told that the building’s common spaces would be wired with wireless available to all residents, but that service wasn’t available for the first two full months after we moved in and it’s only available to residents in the building who subscribe to Time Warner, not Verizon. Not really a building amenity, after all. We were also told our rental would be fully cleaned before moving in, but the apartment was in the same state as the showing weeks prior. We wish our broker, David, had been more upfront with us about the details, which do matter to paying clients.

I worked with Steve Laurelli and he was extremely helpful and accommodating especially when things didn’t go according to plan and when I asked for some things to be changed. Life seldom goes according to plan and nothing is perfect, and Steve did a very nice job adapting to the situations that arose and got me into a new apartment I love. Would highly recommend Steve Laurelli!

Louis Cruz is literally the best. Get him if you can. He’s so patient even with the most indecisive people (i.e. me!) he actually listened and gave me so many options and didn’t try to force me into anything. I had a great experience. Will definitely go back and refer my friends.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE company! Stay away if you want a smooth transition into your new apartment.
Vicky was professional and helpful up UNTIL she received her Broker’s Fee, then completely dropped the ball on the most important steps in the moving process:
–how to get the lease signed
–communication to the landlord
–receipt of the keys
On top of all this, she quickly texted me the night before my discussed move-​in date to just inform me that the apartment would not be cleaned before my moving in. SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND ABSURD!!! What kind of a company leaves you to the wolves like that? APTSANDLOFTS.
She *seemed* so helpful and responsive, telling me that of course the apartment would be clean, I could move in a day before the lease began, etc. However, after she received her broker’s fee, none of the things we discussed were met. She added SO MUCH extra stress on the night before my move-​in day, which is stressful enough, and did nothing to remedy the situation. In fact, she responded in a ridiculously childish ways like saying, «well the apartment is not dirty, it’s just dusty.»
If I could take back my experience with aptsandlofts, I absolutely would. STAY AWAY! I REPEAT, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLY UNPROFESSIONALLY, DISHONEST, and DISORGANIZED COMPANY!

Got the chance to work with Reginald Johnson. He is THE best agent we met while dealing with the stressful process of looking for a future place to live. Besides being easy-​going and in general a wonderful person to deal with, he was prompt when communicating with us and really got a feel for what we were looking for.
We ended up subletting from a friend BUT Reginald was so awesome, that we absolutely needed to thank him and make sure everyone else knows the great work that he does!
