Blue Angel Wines

This place is totally fine to grab a bottle of wine and they have good hours. They definitely try to have a good selection of options (origin, price, etc). I just don’t feel like they especially care about curating their wine selection or know that much about wine so that’s disappointing. I definitely come here often to pick up a quick bottle but when I want to learn, explore, and know that I’m drinking something really good, I go to a couple of other places nearby like Bibber and Vine Wine.

I got a box of my favorite wine got a 10% discount, they delivered right away at no additional charge. Joe the delivery guy is pretty, pretty handsome ! lol…

The best wine shop in town hands down. It has a new manager owner, Rob and he is best, sweetest guy. A lot of these little wine stores are unhelpful and picking a wine there is taking a shot in the dark. Not here. They really know what they’re talking about, have awesome recommendations and prices are fair. Amazingly curated selection along with a newly renovated, clean and bright store. Rob’s enthusiasm and passion truly shines here. Visually appealing store and kick ass wines to boot. I’m never going anywhere else.

Great little wine shop. Always a strong rose showing in the summertime which is much appreciated. The guy who works the day shift and sometimes on the weekend is always incredibly helpful with suggestions, and any new stuff that has come through. My go to spot for Vinho Verde. The prices can be a little high, so I tend to shop around as well to some of the other spots in the neighborhood. But it is super close to my girlfriends place, so hard to beat that.

i asked the guy which wine would pair well with the dark chocolate pudding i was making and he asked how much i wanted to spend. i said, i was on a budget, and he replied, «yeah, i figured as much.»

Wilson provided great customer service and helped us pick 2 cases of great wine that he then delivered with about 5 hours notice.

This is my favorite wine store in NYC! They are always ahead of the trends in their wine selection. The staff is the best and i always trust them to pick out a perfectly curate bottle for my palate. Since Ive moved I still get the to deliver me cases. I am a customer for life!

They had what I was looking for, a nice Chianti Classico. The store was inviting and easy to navigate. The man behind the counter was very nice and knowledgeable when I asked him a question.

I’m too old to admit to «pre-​gaming», so instead, I’ll admit to having a pre-​event wine-​tasting. Heh.
My BFF and I were coming back from Smorgasburg to prepare for our evening with Then She Fell. We were discussing the need for a bracing beverage or two, and luckily we were half a block from Blue Angel Wines.
The guy was knowledgable and although the selection wasn’t vast (there was only one non-​sparkling moscato, and only three reislings), what they did have was of a great quality and the price was pretty decent (especially since I’m used to MD prices… which are generally a smidge lower then NY prices).

Stopped by Blue Angel on my way home from work on a windy Tuesday evening. Wanted a bit of wine to accompany the homework I was headed home to. On Tuesdays the shop offers free wine tastings, so when I stepped in, the shopkeep was manning the sample table. I’m not a huge wine drinker, so I’ve been springing for the smallest size of Bandit (boxed) wines recently. Two servings of good wine for $ 5.99. Perfect! Sadly, they didn’t sell Bandit, but were able to offer me Y+B’s organic, boxed malbec. Put me out $ 13, but I’m not mad. Organic wine, good service, and a cute — albeit slightly under the weather — shopkeep? Count me in. If he’s reading: that raspy voice was real adorable. Let me nurse you back to health with bourbon and hugs?

I think this was the first time I’ve ever been downsold on anything ever. Debating a wine to pair with something tomato-​y, I’m told that I could probably pass on the $ 14 bottle I’m considering and go with a $ 9 one they strongly recommend. Turns out it’s great.
As a fairly consistently broke person with a growing wine habit I can’t afford, it’s very nice to have a local shop that’s willing to pretend that I’m a connoisseur who’s worth time and attention. I’ve never found a place that can so consistently sell me exactly what I’m looking for (or didn’t know what I was looking for, because I’m a wine idiot) while actually selling it to me at the price I said I could afford.
Affordable wine treated like fancy-​pants wine, whoa. Also, like, they clearly know their shit so presumably if you have a bigger budget than me you can get yr fancy pants wines here as well.

First of all, what a beautiful store! The store is outfitted with beautiful rustic wooden shelves and floors. The staff is friendly and helpful. There’s a really great selection of wines, some of which I haven’t seen in other stores. I haven’t yet gone home with a wine I was disappointed with.
I wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could use that free delivery!

All the good reviews seem to be from quite a while ago. Apparently the ownership and/​or management have changed. And what a change! This place USED to be very good. Alas, not any more!
Disappointingly mediocre establishment, staff nowhere as good as it used to be!

I feel like this wine shop has been pretty hit or miss these days. Their wine selection is a bit sparse for the space, but there is definitely a focus on quality & value that this neighborhood had sorely lacked prior to their opening. I don’t think that I have ever purchased a bottle from this shop that I did not thoroughly enjoy and their selection of rose is especially outstanding. I love the very informative descriptions that they have on each and every bottle here, which comes in very handy for the times when their staff (there’s usually 2 – 3 employees on hand) stays behind the counter to chat amongst themselves rather offering me any real help. Other times the staff can be helpful and friendly, but this is part of the ‘hit or miss’ I was referring to. And while for years I had no real complaints, only raves, about this shop, it seems like every time I have been in Blue Angel recently, there has been some type of issue. A couple of times their stock has been very poorly depleted, the fridge was broken for a while, so there were no chilled wines, an employee’s dog once barked me and my dog right out of the shop (if your dog isn’t good with other dogs, should you really bring him/​her to work at a dog friendly establishment!?), and this weekend they are unable to take credit cards. I’m not sure if I just have spectacularly bad timing or if there really is always something going wrong here!
At the end of the day, this can be a great wine shop. But with more competitors that don’t have these issues moving into the neighborhood, they really need to step up their game and provide more consistent service.

Excellent of selection of organic-​only wines in a homey, open, rustic wood space with ample room for tastings (and even a patio out back). Their descriptions are dead on and the staff welcome any question. Most bottles range in the $ 10 – 18 range, cheap enough where you can buy a case for $ 100 give or take.
A favorite of mine has become my summer-​time wine; Famega Vinho Verde. Its a mildly bubbly Portuguese white, not too sweet, hardly dry, and goes great with a backyard BBQ or as a refreshing drink.

Rolled into this place off the street on my first full day as a W’burg resident, and ended up getting a terrific Chilean Sauvignon to go with my pizza. A nice looking selection with a great range of prices, and the cashier could hardly have been more friendly.
Haven’t yet attended a tasting, but planning on it.

I finally made a trip around the corner to Blue Angel Wines after passing by it numerous times and thinking «I really need to go in there!». I’m so glad I did. This is a fantastic little wine shop, but don’t let the size fool you — there are enough types of wine here to satisfy everyone, and any budget. They have a number of bottles under $ 10 that you won’t find everywhere else. And the salesgirl who helped me was great. I asked her for a recommendation and just told her that I wanted a white wine, something a little fruity and very drinkable. She pointed out a few different bottles that fit my criteria and I went with a Spanish bottle that was $ 10. Can’t wait to try it tonight!
Another thing I’m absolutely in love with… It’s Monday night and they’re open til 10pm! I think I’ve found my new favorite place. You can also sign up for their email list and they’ll email you and tell you when the wine tastings are going to be.

I used to work at a different boutique wine shop in Williamsburg and it was there that I learned to love small, old world producers. However, when I quit the gig my access to wine was sadly and significantly reduced. Thankfully, Blue Angel Wines moved in half a block from my house; however, it’s not just proximity that won me over.
Their selection is artfully chosen, with a refreshing range of price points. The store itself is beautiful, full of custom raw wood shelving. The staff is helpful, knowledgable, and down to earth. Be sure to sign up for the mailing list — they send very sweet reminders for all their tastings and helpful suggested cases and half-​cases.
Finally, my two favorite Blue Angel moments:
1) twenty minutes after closing, they still opened the store for me and another passing and desperate customer
2) at a recent tasting of German and Austrian wines, they offered pickles, cheese and HOMEMADE (by the owners) soft pretzels.
This place is a winner. Definitely worth the extra couple bucks you may pay here, as a consequence that it’s a new and unestablished store in an era of crappy Euro to Dollar exchange rate.
Love to support a fantastic new woman-​owned business close to home.

As far as I can tell there is only one universally good thing about gentrification — superior wine stores.
Delinquent and running late for a wine-​centric garden party, I was greatly helped along by a stop in this shop. Norah and crew had perfect recommendations. The Poivre et Sel Gamay I grabbed stood out next to some heavy hitting competition at the party. Everyone was into it.
It tasted like my high school girlfriend’s neck at summer camp. Spritely, recently having fooled around in the dirt, and nectarine sweat tinted with citronella.
Just kidding, I didn’t have a girlfriend in high school :(

Awesome staff, great wines and an overall fantastic experience. I explained what I was having for dinner, we discussed the best way to compliment it and they recommended the perfect wine. What more can you say? Oh, ok, well, the whole store smells like fresh cut wood. And the wine they were tasting at the front counter was totally refreshing on a 90 degree day.
They deliver too, which is amazing, but really, you should just go to the store.
