Specialties

Learn the art of Bellydance (Middle Eastern Dance, or «Raqs Sharqi» in Arabic). Sherine and Mariyah alternate instruction of this ongoing weekly class. Learn the art of Bellydancing in a supportive and delightful class environment. The style of Bellydance is mainly Oriental Egyptian, Turkish Oriental, and subtle fusion. The 60 minute class includes alignment/​centering, warm-​up, technique, across the floor, combinations, structured improvisation, and cool down. Throughout the year, we will dance with a veil fabric, and sometimes with finger cymbals (Sagat/​Zills). Specialty workshop classes will be offered during the Spring season, alongside an annual student show, for interested students seeking an opportunity to perform.

This class is co-​taught by Sherine and Mariyah, two Brooklyn based Bellydance artists.

Meet the Business Owner

Sherine K.

Business Owner

Sherine Khatoun is of Middle Eastern heritage, born and raised in NYC. She is an award-​winning dance artist, performing in theaters, festivals, banquet halls, educational and cultural institutions, high profile events, and local cultural venues. Sherine is a dance member of Zikrayat, a NY based Arabic music/​dance ensemble. Her primary influence is her mother, an Arabic vocalist, whom Sherine inherited a passion for Middle Eastern/​North African music and dance. She has a BA in Hunter College, majoring in Dance. She has successfully completed a Bellydance teacher training by Bellyqueen. Sherine is familiar with a variety of dance styles, training in Latin Ballroom and Latin Jazz for approximately 5 years. She is currently developing a World Dance program designed for children– teaching International Folk Dance & Multicultural Dance. Sherine is a devoted dance teacher, fulfilling a life-​long passion for sharing the essence of dance with others.
