This place is great it’s a piece of North Carolina in Brooklyn! Perfect combination of Bar &BBQ Joint, Tyson the owner was hanging out and was really helpful in talking about the NCBBQ scene. I got Lucifer’s Chicken Legs because I like chicken, I’ll be back for a few beers and the Outside Brown Shoulder. Chicken was great how can you go wrong with chicken that was smoked all night, great vibe good bar great food!

Great service, great music always playing to fit any vibe and an amazingly friendly staff. The Outside Brown shoulder and the Macaroni and Cheese waffle is the Mona Lisa of their menu.

Fantastic, huge brunch spot. Big indoor seating space and bar, with an equally huge seating space outside. The macaroni and cheese waffles were SUPERB. Huge, served with a giant cup of queso to dip it in. The brisket smelled delicious too. Lunchtime on a rainy Saturday, no wait, no line, pretty quiet. I bet this place is so pleasant during the summer. We will definitely be back soon.

Great, laid back atmosphere and the BBQ was delicious. Got the western BBQ outside brown shoulder… amazing but the star for our group was the chicken wings and drummettes these was a honey glaze on it that was insanely good. The staff was super nice too! Will definitely be going back!

Love this spot! Great beers and great food. I tried the Vietnamese coffee flavored stout, the milk stout and the Horny Devil. All great beers. It is a very big space. There was a baby shower here when I went so this space have hold parties. For food, I tried their hog sandwich and Vietnamese glazed wings. Very hearty portions for the cost and very delicious! Would recommend this spot!

I love this bar. The staff is dope and really easy to talk to. I was there on Halloween this year and accidentally left my phone there(great beer selection is deadly) and Eric(one of the manager’s) so graciously kept it safe for me until I came to retrieve it the next day. The owner Ty is a really nice guy, as well as the two bartenders named, Chris. Dope bar! Go for the great beer and awesome staff.

I went to Arrogant Swine late one Friday because a co-worker in the ITVBBQ Champ said a well respected source said Arrogant Swine was 1 of 5 of the best BBQ places in the US. 7 Hours Later there I was. Strong Recommendation to live up to. Arrogant Swine’s food was up there. The Mac & Cheese Waffle was actually slamming. I loved it every bite. Crunchy and soft and chewy in the middle. We got the Whole Hog Menu, which included the Mac & Cheese Belgian Waffles, a side of your choosing, and ½ pound of pulled pork with cracklings on top. Everything was great but the pulled pork could have used some bbq sauce which wasn’t included. We got the pork belly which I really loved especially with the little sprinkles of cracklings on top with the sauce it was a perfect piece of bbq. I would say overall it’s probably not top 5 in the US. But I haven’t eaten that much BBQ, it’s definitely a 4⁄5 star on my pick

A chill Williamsburg bbq and bar that serves amazing Mac and cheese waffle and average bbq. Very sweet and funny staff served us on a stormy Friday night. The clouds over Brooklyn had dumped buckets of water down. Every time a car drove by you, a stream of water would be displaced by its tires. I was VERY thankful to find Arrogant Swine. Warm and inviting, the heat from the kitchen dried us off in no time. We ordered: — Mac and Cheese waffle– amazing cheesy crisp crust with good mac and cheese. Definitely recommend. –Collard Greens– well cooked, it wasn’t too salty or greasy. Sometimes we just need vegetables –Pork belly with crispy shallots. This was definitely the better protein dish of the two. Tasted more like a pork tenderloin with a small strip of fat, it was well seasoned, well done and had a generous layer of sweet fried shallots. — Half pound of East Carolina Whole Hog with crackling. I gladly devoured all the cracklings but I was not a fan of the East Carolina Hog. Very dry and overcooked. I could taste some seasoning but most of the taste was overwhelmed by cracklings and vinegar. Very disappointed. This was the dish that I looked forward to.

Bonnes bières, le porc au barbecue est sublime. Le mc&cheese waffle(gaufre aux pâtes) et un plat de ribs suffit pour deux personnes… Aller voir au fond il y a un jeu ;)

Décor is cool, beer selection great and the bar has a nice selection of spirits. Bartender was friendly and served up a great cold beer on my request for a bartender’s choice(Jai Alai Pale Ale). The space inside is huge and the outdoor table area is big as well. Overall a really cool style that sets up for what I was hoping to be a great BBQ meal. Got the Whole Hog platter with mustard slaw and cornbread. Honestly for the price, just doesn’t hold much value for me. The taste was seriously«meh, ok». The pork was dripping with either grease or sauce, but neither made it taste any better. Actually had several dry portions that kinda sucked. The slaw was again just ok. The cornbread pressed in the shape of a waffle was fun, but nothing special. Best part was the friends I was with. That’s about it. The worst part… After lunch I started getting a headache and stomach ache. Ended up getting sick later that evening and **WARNING** threw up the pork. I was actually glad I did because I felt better afterwards. Sad, but true. With so much BBQ going on in NYC these days, I’d never come back to AS. For the price, not really worth it unless the food was mind blowing. Not the case here.

When Arrogant Swine announced they’d be hosting the famous Danish brewer from Mikkeller, we had to go. The space is very nice with a ton of outdoor seating though the neighborhood is still on the up. Service was ok, but incredibly slow. They may have been overwhelmed by the demand, but it didn’t feel especially busy. The crowd was very Brooklyn, but also somehow surprisingly arrogant. We were surrounded by loud talkers and snobs which detracted a bit. As a bar, it is good aside from the time taken to get a drink, and the beer was pretty good. The normal selection looked good as well and they often do this type of collaboration. As a bbq joint, it was just ok. The wings were the best part, properly crispy and not soggy, and didn’t taste like they had been sauced after cooking like is often the case. The chef apparently loves to make things in the form of a waffle so the mac and cheese was pressed on an iron. This caused it to be a bit dry and not very cheesy. The gravy was good, but was totally necessary just to get past the dryness. The bbq was really pretty average which was a huge let down from the hype. There are far better BBQ places in NC and even in NYC and after reading everything about the attempt to bring authentic bbq to the north, it was disappointing for it to be so average.

Upon revisiting my initial conclusion remains — this is the best BBQ in the city in my opinion. Could everything be prettier? Sure, but it’s a BBQ joint in an industrial district and it lives up to this location and surroundings significantly. I personally love the décor. The food is still superb, and anyone hating on the mac and cheese waffle needs their head checked. It may start out as a strange experience but after the first few bites you’re in love. The staff were friendly and courteous as ever.

How frustrating. So much potential, if only they did all of the little things, simple things, right. It’s true Carolina barbecue. You’re not likely to find better, more flavorful, vinegary, lovely whole hog. The slaws are amazing. How do you screw this up? You serve it in a space that has no air conditioning, and jumbo, industrial fans that do nothing more than blow your napkins off of the table. You have half of the items crossed off of the menu as sold out before 5PM. You serve your barbecue on flimsy, paper boats, with plastic utensils and no napkins at the table. For that? Charge $ 9. At least plastic plates and silverware, with a basket of napkins and wet naps at the table… It is a barbecue joint, after all. $ 15 for a combo sounds like a great deal, until you see the size of the portion. Those lovely pork cracklings, should not be placed on top of that steamy pork. Crispy and steamy are an unhappy teamy. The macaroni and cheese waffle is pre-made, left on a rack, and plated out, at room temperature. Dry and ordinary and desperately needs that extra cheese sauce. Serve it hot or don’t bother. The server will bring your tray and items will be missing. Where is the sauce? Where is the coleslaw? A thimble of sauce for all of that barbecue? The staff seems confused, but you can’t help but feel for them, working in that heat and realize it’s not their fault. My greatest peeve: unkempt, disorganized restrooms. If they’re going to be coed, you have to care if the seat is broken. Chicks do not pee standing up. Ah, the line for the restroom, or is it the line to order food? Dunno, it traverses the service station, so you can’t tell if the people are waiting online to order, or use the bathroom, until you get a lot of dirty looks when you accidentally cut the line. I’m not a fan of a DJ station at a restaurant. I prefer to dine and have a conversation, so if you are going to have music, it should be at an audible level, not something something loud and thump-thump awful. Your bbq is pretty damn good. But know this: When you don’t care about the little things, whatever was good quickly follows suit and declines. It’s about care. Show some.

I really wanted to love this place, but the fact is I would never eat here again because of the undercooked/ill-prepared food. My friends and I came here on a Friday night at around midnight after a show nearby. We expected it to be packed, but it was rather empty. It’s a large space, cute and interesting. The bar offered a decent beer selection and the outside provides plenty of tables to gather with a large group comfortably. The food was nearly finished with only a few menu items still available. We basically had the choice between the«whole hog»(plate or a la carte) or the chicken legs. I opted for the whole hog plate, which came with a rather tasty cole slaw and a pile of random pork products. It was a mixture of pulled pork bits and then pork rinds. Honestly, the pork didn’t taste of anything really. Just greasy to tell you the truth. The crunch pork rinds were okay but not worth the calories. They had two bbq sauce options, none of which were mind blowing or enhanced the flavor. The best part of the entire meal was the waffled cornbread which was outstanding. I should have just ordered a few of these. My friends, on the other hand, received a giant portion of smoked chicken quarters(leg/thigh) with waffled mac n’ cheese with a dipping sauce. They liked the mac n’ cheese which needed the sauce to make it cheesey enough. However, the chicken was completely raw. I know what you’re going to say, it was smoked so a little pink happens. I’ve enjoyed many a smoked products. This was raw. When you cut into the chicken, red blood pooled and spilled out. Not to mention the texture(yes, we did try a bite) was horrid. There was no way this was safe nor edible. The kitchen was apologetic, and gave my friends their money back even though they ate the mac n’ cheese. The thing is, I saw a lot of people eating the chicken regardless and their’s was raw too. This is a serious healthy hazard and the moment the kitchen noticed raw chicken being returned should have go around and informed people. This is a scary thing! So yeah, not going to come here again to eat the food. Salmonella just isn’t something I want to mess with. I would come back to have a drink if I was in the area. So be warned and make sure what you’re eating is cooked.

#I liked the Outside Brown(shoulder). I saw that on the counter and was like I want that. The lady said it was #Outside Brown. Okay, I’ll take Outside Brown. It’s more like chunks. The Whole Hog was more like pulled pork with #cracklings on top. #I think I was too drunk to understand the #menu on the wall. Because I kept saying I want the Whole Hog plate, even though I didn’t want the #corn bread and slaw. I meant I want a plate of just Whole #Hog. Not the other stuff. #This place is inconvenient to get to. There’s not really much out there. Very #industrial. But I grade on a #curve. So it’s like a 5-star if you compare it to any other place in #that area.

I was on my way to a Livestream performance and this seemed to be the only place to eat in the area. The place was pretty empty for 7:30 at night on a Wednesday but most of the people eating here were in the small beer garden in the back. When I walked in, the bartender was extremely attentive and helpful. He helped me order my meal which was the pulled pork, apple coleslaw, and a mini waffle shaped corn bread. The portion was enough for 2 people. It was pretty tasty. When I walked in I was thinking I would try amazing bbq but got another type of pork related item(the pulled pork). The pork was more on the vinegary side as well as the sauces provided on the side. I’d like to come here again to try the chicken wings and have a beer in the small beer garden.

We were attending an art show nearby and in need of dinner. There was not much in the area, and this was closest, and it was snowing. I was apprehensive due to the reviews, but we gave it a try. We sat at the bar. The bartender was kind, quick, and attentive. We ordered pork belly and waffle Mac n cheese. The pork belly itself was delicious. The sauce was just ok. But the pork belly… so good. The waffle Mac and cheese was a nice concept, but too dry. Needed much more cheese, more butter, and a more flavorful sauce. The pork belly and mac and cheese fed both of us well. I would give them 3.5 stars. If I am in the area I would go here.

I haven’t actually ordered any BBQ for myself here yet, stole a few bites from friends intead. Wasn’t really in the mood for protein, so instead had some carb-loaded sides. Mac n Cheese Waffle!!! On the menu it says Kenny G’s Mac n Cheese, so was not expecting it to come in waffle shape. The waffle iron makes it crispy, but also somewhat dry. But no worries. They give you a cup of melted queso on the side to drizzle on the waffle. Add some hot sauce for a kick. The combo is pretty damn good. As my second side, I got the Sweet Potato Waffle with walnut, bourbon and maple. Loved this waffle, especially with the walnuts. Anything bready with walnuts is delicious. It’s not dry like waffles can be sometimes, and the sweet potato gives it a natural sweetness. I couldn’t really taste the bourbon. They really love waffles here. Maybe they are influenced by Serious Eats because that site has a thing for posting about food you can make in waffle irons. As for the meat, I was able to try a bite of the Whole Hog BBQ and the Chicken Wings The whole hog was tender and had pork rinds on top for added crunch. Not a big fan of the BBQ sauce because it’s the vinegary, watery kind. The wings were delicious. They are a safe thing to order, but those were some pretty good wings. A tad on the salty side, but I liked them better than the hog. We came around 9pm, so we had the huge jenga set to ourselves. Fun place. Looking forward to coming back to try more of the BBQ and get more waffles.

After much anticipation, and following their progress around on all social media, plus private parties they catered for us, I finally made it to their brand-sparkling-new brick-and-mortar place. First of all, a shoutout needed — you guys ROCK. The Pork belly special was ridiculously good(serious props!), Brisket was moist and scrumptious, and that Mac-n-cheese waffle — duuuuuuude!!! OK, may be it is not a mac-n-cheese you used to, but close your eyes, open your mind and bite into it, dammit! Yum. Black Ale — loved it. Lots of beers here that are worth trying. This spot going to rock in summer with outdoor seating taking whole left side of the building. Whole interior is pretty wicked, too, with open ceilings, skylights and industrial fans. Now, two things they really need to fix — the heat situation(gas heat lamps still left place pretty cold in late fall), and the sign outside — giving this is still highly industrial area, it is not easy to find. Overall, they are off to good start — I will be back for sure! Oink, oink!

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars but just couldn’t do it. . The pork shoulder was pretty good — I’m not a meat connoisseur — and more of a sides person. The waffle mac n cheese sounds really interesting — but it’s just really dry. It had some moisture to it — but you really want your mac n cheese creamy, you know? Sometimes you should just not mess with the classics. The coleslaw was ok — nothing out of the ordinary. The roasted brussel sprouts were OK — but just didn’t have that southern cooked in bacon taste — just needed salt or something. The cornbread also looked like it was made in a waffle iron(ok?) but it was really good. All of this was split between two people — one pork shoulder platter and two sides — and was bout $ 30 — lil pricey for the amount of food(basically one meal plus two sides). The space itself is great — nice and spacious and great for groups; just wish they could take the food up a notch or two. Luckily, based on the initial impression I think they can.
