Isla Verde Cafe

Went there to watch the playoff game between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh and of course dance a little. The atmosphere was great, the music was great, and all the people was cool, but the bartenders was horrible. Was really that packed and the bartenders was taking forever to serve the patrons. When I finally ordered a drink which was just a cranberry and kettle one it cost $ 13 WHAT! Yes $ 13. Didn’t know I was going to pay Manhattan prices in the Bronx.

Angela at the bar, makes good mojitis. We had a grilled pork chops and ask them to add the spices. it came to great ! Yes, I would recommend this restaurant to others…2 for one drinks at happy hour!

Don’t know if it was what we ordered but this place hit the spot.
My co-​worker & I set out for after-​work bites and libations. We went to an unnamed spot and ended up with the drunk cook?! taking our order. We skipped the food after being creeped out and set out for a new place to eat.
We came across Isla Verde and were short on time so we decided to stop in to their express take-​out counter. We could not have been happier. We ordered the picadera for 2 and were in love. Crisp, fresh tostones, steak, a pastelillo and the BEST chicharon de pollo that I have had in quite some time!
We literally are dying to go back and it’s only been a few days. Can’t say much about the other food but really enjoyed our experience here. It’s super close to the 6 train.

First I would like to say that I never been in this place before, I decided to give it a shot because I see people I know in social media checking in there and I am a big supporter of supporting Bronx business owners!!! First because of the fight you were charge 20 bucks to enter, even if you wanted to just eat it cosy u 20 bucks lol ok I paid the 20 bucks I decided to play the bar and eat later somewhere else there two bar stools empty I order two drinks the bartender informs me that those seats are taken, there no drink on the table and no one there how are they reserve, I would totally understand if it was a bottle service that someone was getting, but that wasn’t the case, 20min go by and tell me I have to get up because the people she was holding them for which mind you were her friends, three chicks that drank club soda all night!!! I was blown away by this never in my life in going to bars have I every experience something like this!!! I notified the manger which she was really cool I really tried to make me feel good by offering drinks or a table but I didn’t want anything that my style I just wanted her to know about her bartender, in a Bussniess that needs 15to 20 percent of new clientele to stay afloat in the bar Bussniess her bartender made sure I will not go there again!!!

I was taken here by my girls for a birthday dinner, the food was horrendous. First we ordered drinks that were humdrum, as an appetizer we had the guacamole and overly salted bagged chips. Somehow I ended up still giving them the benefit of the doubt, for dinner I ordered the shrimp stuffed mofongo. What arrived at my table was some mashed plantains with some shrimp drenched in vodka sauce, horrific. I ate some of it because I hadn’t eaten lunch in anticipation of this dinner. I will never go there again or even recommend it to anyone. YOU GUYS SUCK! If it weren’t for the great company I was with I would have had a shitty evening. Those of you looking for a good place to have a nice latin dinner, please go elsewhere. To my childhood friends thank you for a great evening, it’s not your fault, but next time I will have my mangu n salami at Caridad’s. I wish I could give it negative five stars!

I went there one night with my boyfriend and I ordered a apple martini and he ordered Hennessey and red bull.
The apple martini came in a SMALL plastic cup with ice. Apple martinis are supposed to be in a martini glass with no ice unless requested. $ 10 for a SMALL watered down drink. My bf was the same small little BS cup.
The place was nice, the music was okay mostly Spanish music. We left after the first drink.

Drinks and food were awesome only cause of Jasmine. Hope this pretty lady is working this Friday and weekends. Beware of her evil step mother behind the bar.

The bar side was not great and the drinks were served in a 4 – 5 Oz plastic cup and it was 9 bucks. The place is very small and an incident occured where a drunk woman acted up and the bouncers just laughed at her. What’s their purpose if they can’t regulate? There is a coat check for a tiny bar, how does that work out? My friend and I went next door to escape the craziness and there is a take out side with some small tables and bar stools where a waitress serves you food to stay and to go. She was a delight and very nice. The food was ok, but salty. They had this spicy mojo, which was good. The two stars was for the waitress. She was great and had a good demeanor even with the crazy drunks coming in acting afool. If it wasn’t for her this would have gotten ½ a star.

Went here last summer on a Saturday club night. I had a blast! Who would’ve thought, as I never go clubbing in the Bronx. The music was poppin and the drinks were strong. Hookah was good, too. I would def check this place out again.

I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was delicious. Other reviews are right the service is a bit slow but your glass never goes empty. So that really didn’t matter to me much. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. The music is also good.

1^st: I ordered a Churasco and of course I needed a steak knife to eat my dinner. When I asked for one it took them 10 minutes to bring me one and when they did it was dirty. No one came back around so I can ask for another I ended up using my butter knife.

2^nd: My boyfriend and I ran out of water and the waitress came back to our table to ask if we wanted drinks by the end of our dinner. We basically sat there very thirsty for a while and when she finally came back we didnt even want to order drinks instead just asked for more water and even that took her like 15 more minutes.
I was recommended to go here by my friends and I was disappointed by the service.

Worst service I have ever received. It took 10 minutes to get a steak knife and when I got it it was dirty like if someone had just used it. I had to use the butter knife for the steak because the waitress never came back. The individual selling flowers came to the table more than the waitress. Afterwards I asked for water and that took an additional 20 minutes to get to the table. Despite the horrible service the hostess did a good job in getting us a table quickly and the food and drinks were great.

I love this place!!! Good service great specials.
Tuesday are the best day and I recommend everyone to go!

Great food… Super slow and forgetful staff. They have a huge sign saying that they offer delivery but «the delivery guy is never in» and the girl on the express side ALWAYS forgets my beans when I takeout .

I walk by this place all of the time and it always catches my eye. Decided to go try it today for the first time. Ordered Sangria and my husband ordered the strawberry colada. Drinks were very good. No complaints there. We then ordered the tostones relleno with chicken. Let me tell you, it was not what I expected at all! The chicken was smothered in what tasted like vodka sauce straight out of the jar. I was appalled! Main entrée was okay. My husband enjoyed his shrimp fettuccini Alfredo. I ordered the churrasco. Very moist and soft but lacked so much flavor. I’m just not impressed. I will be back for the drinks and night life only not for the food.

Yes the service is slow, and scattered and you feel like you really are in the caribbean.
They made up for forgetting our appetizers by not charging us for them and giving them to us to take home and a free carafe of Sangria.
That being said the food was ok. Good for a neighborhood spot.

Everything my wife and I have had from this place has been incredible. It is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I am not a rice eater, but I even enjoy the rice here. It is an intimate place that plays great music if u come in the early evenings.

I spent a lot of time in Soundview volunteering with canoe tours on the Bronx River, and I’ve frequently passed Isla Verde Café. It always attracted me with its Copacabana-​esque bright lights and palm trees, so my buddy and I decided to visit this past Saturday night.
It’s a very fun spot. Latin music plays at a decent volume (not too quiet, not too loud) and the drinks flow freely. They use some pretty quality liquors in their cocktails (I think), so they truly sneak up on you.
But on to the food: This is really delicious food. Isla Verde serves up an Arroz Con Pollo that is actually an exciting experience, flavor wise. Dressed with tomatoes, onions and parsley, and some kind of heavenly green herbal mix/​sauce thingy (I’m sure it has a name), this dish is the best Arroz con Pollo I’ve had in New York City. Usually, it’s a boring, safe dish (I’m talking to you, Havana Central), but Isla Verde makes it something different.
The crowd is your standard Soundview: pretty ladies if that’s your thing, and some decent looking guys if that’s also your thing. The only strange part is that random peddlers kept walking into the restaurant selling flowers and cigarettes, and they’d leave sadly after they realized no one wanted to partake in their goods.
Brotip: Be careful with the bathroom door. It slams loudly and the whole restaurant learns that you just went to the bathroom… lmao…

Nice spot good location food/​drinks are on point so are prices, place gets kinda lively/​loud late buts you want a good time come here. whole staff is on point and approachable, ps bring the family during regular hours they will like what’s happening in here I knows

BANDS A’ MAKE HER DANCE!
Coworkers took me here for a night (and morning) of dancing. and that’s what it was. One of my friends knows the owner, who definitely took care of us by getting us a table and bottle service even though this place was PACKED to the max the first time we came here (and each time thereafter as well). The service was much appreciated!
It’s a small spot in the heart of Parkchester. Apparently it is a restaurant during the day but my review is only for the nightclub part at night. They play a good mix of music — mostly merengue, bachata, and salsa… and I’ve heard them play plenty of techno, reggae, reggaeton and hip hop on other nights (depends on the DJ I guess). Good place to come and let loose by dancing until they turn on the lights at 4:30a. If you want a more loungey feeling where you can sit and talk, find another place.
I have a good time each time I come here. I’ve seen all age groups here — from the 20 somethings to the 50 somethings. (The 50 somethings always kill it when the Salsa comes on, btw!) Make sure you come with your own group of people to dance and have fun with because there’s definitely a bunch of fools standing around waiting for vulnerable girls to dance with. Don’t get too upset if someone bumps you while dancing, it’s all in good fun and lack of space!
