Omni Mount Washington Resort

Amazing service and grand atmosphere with unbelievable views. We loved the grand dining room with fantastic evening food and service… spa is absolutely out of this world with every service and amenity you could ask for. We did s couples message in the state of the art facility with steam, sauna, out door hot tub, men’s and women’s lounges… Great!

Absolutely loved my experience here, I stayed over night before hitting the slopes at the always great Bretton Woods. It hasn’t really snowed recently and the he snow was still great. The people working at the resort are so friendly and will do anything to make you feel welcome. Ended up going to Stickney’s restaurant and The Cave located in the basement of the hotel and both impressed with service and ambience. I highly recommend any of Stickney’s steaks and the Tuckermans pale ale, which is my new favorite craft beer.
Go for a romantic night or a fun ski trip and you will not regret, will be back as soon as I can.

I will start my story saying that I travel a lot, and I travel a lot with my small service dog that was prescribed to me for my medical condition. Me and my family, including my husband and my parents were staying in the hotel for New Year’s weekend. And I will start with that the hotel itself is very beautiful, the staff in restaurant, bar and spa was very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good and the place seemed very welcoming.
Until a pretty bad accident happened that spoiled all our impressions of the whole stay, disappointed all my family and made me be sure to never return in the hotel again. (that was sad because me and my husband were planning to return there for St Valentines weekend).
I will write all THE NAMES hoping that appropriate actions will be taken for those hotel employees.
On Jan 2d when we all were about to enjoy our lobster dinner in the restaurant about 6pm, I got a call from security saying that my dog is barking, that was said in pretty rude voice. (it was the second time they called, I was able to calm my dog the previous day — it was actually pretty funny assuming that I have a chihuahua who may occasionally bark when loud people and kids are passing by and screaming, and a few barks never counted as excessive barking by service animal laws.) And the other strange thing was that my 2bd room was actually at the very corner with neighbors only across the corridor. so who could have complained? just somebody passing by in a bad mood? And I also would like to mention that those few barks were NOT IN QUIET HOURS (that start at 10pm by hotel’s policy). I was always with my dog after 9pm and was sure he was quiet.
So, after I received that second call, me and my husband decided to interrupt our dinner and meet with the security officer Mr. McEntire to find out what bothers him so much. I was talked in a very angry and annoyed voice to immediately calm my dog down. And the MOST IMPORTANT — we have received a FINANCIAL THREAT from him that we will be paying for the others people rooms «if we won’t shut the dog»!!! Can you imagine that happening in an upscale hotel??? I actually asked him out of curiosity where is it coming from, and he proudly said that is the hotel policy that I signed. Guess what? Coming to speak to the front desk, of course nobody found such papers and such ‘policy’ did not exist. I spoke to my lawyer about that cause I was really shocked with such situation, when a hotel employee illegally threatens and intimidates the hotel guest for money. I just don’t want to go further and involve the law to solve this situation.
I would like to mention that I left more than $ 3K in this hotel. And for these money being payed to stay in one of recognized OMNI hotels that possess themselves as providing great service for their customers, the attitude of McEntire towards me and my family is COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE.
But, unfortunately, the story does not end here. Then Christopher Page from the front desk involves into conversation. With a smile on his face he says that we all will have to leave if the dog continues to bark. That was insane because I already ran upstairs to check on my poor doggie who was frightened and sitting still in the sofa, during NOT quiet hours (will repeat it again, it was around 6pm). I had to ask «if you make my whole family leave now, will I at least be partially refunded?» The answer was ironic smiling and the word «NOPE!». and then he added «I will be more than happy to check you out from the hotel!» Mr. Page was really enjoying the situation!!! When you are working in the sphere of serving people, you chose this job, and if something happened in your life and you are having a bad day or whatever, you should never project it to another people, especially hotel guests. My husband, my Dad and myself are all physicians and we also work with people. And I just cannot imagine that any of us would ever transfer our emotions to the patients, or just talk and act in such a way to clients.
I just cannot explain in words how my family was HUMILIATED by this attitude and the way he spoke to us.
I am a pregnant woman, and I had to experience that much stress from Omni employees on my New Year vacation.
The next day my husband and me spoke to chief manager and explained all the situation happened the other night. She seemed pretty understanding and said she will talk with them and let me know what is going to happen. It has been a week since then, of course nobody reached back to us ever again although we left contact information.
I hope that my review means something to the management of this Omni hotel, and the chain itself, and it will reach out to the top. I will share it wherever I can. And again, my complaint is for certain people only, their names are in the review. I am sure the hotel cares for it’s reputation, and would like to be more careful hiring the personnel and satisfying the guests.

Overall the experience here was great! The hotel is really beautiful on the interior and the views of the mountains cannot be beat. Definitely a striking resemblence to «The Shining» hotel but I found that to be very cool. The historic tour was very interesting, food at Stickney’s is AMAZING– if you like creamed parmesan spinach it is a must! The Cave is also really awesome bartender is mad cool and makes delicious drinks. Such a great experience, something everyone should do at least once!

I received obnoxious behavior from the hotel manager (Monica) of the Mt. Washington Hotel /​Bretton Woods when merely requesting the days and times I might reach an employee of their hotel. I was told it was CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION. I could not believe my ears. I am a customer/​client requesting information pertinent to our upcoming stay, from an employee I have been communicating/​working with the past four plus years, due totally to her professionalism. I mentioned to Monica, her handling of the situation was very unprofessional, and after I spoke with her it would be posted on Social Media. She did not care. I ask you, how long do you think a store, hotel or company manager would last in his/​her job, IF company employees were not permitted to provide when they are available to speak to a customer?

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE PRIINCESS ROOM located within the hotel. The food was good but what troubled me was the service. There was not enough staff and the waitress (beautiful foreign accent I think her name was Tracy, it started with a T I think) was unfortunately awful. My family and I were not greeted or acknowledged even though we had made eye contact. We also were not given menus for quite some time we had to ask. We did not have cutlery when our food was served and our waters were not refilled, we had to keep asking. No one came to check if our food was okay. Upon ordering a cappuccino there was no spoon and we had to go to the bar to get salt and pepper. I am very disappointed in the quality of service I received, especially since it is apart of such a high caliber hotel.

We’ve stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel twice now (¹²⁄₂₀₁₄ and ¹²⁄₂₀₁₅) and this incredible hotel has not failed to disappoint. From the moment we glimpsed this beautiful building from the road we were mesmerized. And when we walked into the lobby, we felt like we stepped back in time at least a hundred years.
The history around this building is fascinating and remarkable. I won’t describe any of the history now — I’ll just let you know that there are daily (and free) historical tours led by very knowledgeable and friendly folks. We are not normally tour-​taking people, but we took one and it was amazing. Trust me — take the tour, it is an hour or so very well spent — if you’re like us, you will learn a lot and be extremely intrigued and entertained.
I really can’t speak highly enough about this amazing hotel. You might just want to hang out at the lobby and adjoining rooms all day long. it is stunningly beautiful And the guest rooms are equally beautiful and exquisitely appointed — 12ft ceilings, stained glass, beautiful marble and granite, fireplaces, amazing bathrooms, seriously comfortable beds, furniture you wish you had in your own home, bay windows, lavish draperies, walk-​in closets. This is a hotel you will wish you could afford to spend the rest of your life at!
Did I mention there is a huge, heated outdoor pool open year-​round?! (even when it’s snowing and -10 °F?) Did I mention the US Post Office in the basement? The «Cave» that was once a speakeasy and still feels like one? The incredible buffet breakfast you wish you could have every day of your life? The beautiful backdrop, golf course and amazing hiking trails around the grounds?
The service and friendliness of the staff is remarkable. You get the feeling that everyone really wants to work here and they are giving you their 100% best every day — from the valet staff, to the front-​desk to the concierge to the restaurant servers and pool staff. Everyone was impeccably polite, friendly and welcoming.
We cannot wait to return!

This is a beautiful hotel. I have received pretty good service. However, it is late November and I can’t get my room to cool to less than 74 degrees. This may not bother some but I, and many like me, can’t sleep in a warm room. This review is based on that.
The windows are open and it is still sweltering hot in here. I called the desk. They sent up a maintenance person who confirmed I was operating the thermostat correctly. The temp is set to 65, it’s almost 10degrees hotter. He said there was nothing he could do. He said the AC is working, but it’s hot cause I’m on the 4^th floor. I can’t see how it is considered to be working when the Windows are open on a 53 degree night and it is still 74 degrees in here. This is night two like this. After night one, my kids woke up too early because we had to have the windows wide open and sun streamed in so early it was so bright. I’m unhappy that I paid over $ 400/​night and can’t sleep.

Ate at Stickney’s for dinner. I started with shrimp cocktail cooked perfectly, crisp and cold. My fiancé had the home made chips and cheese dip that was easily sharing size. I had an 8 oz filet cooked just as I requested and she had the Juniper brined pork chop also very tasty from the one piece she let me try. The vegetables and potatoes were very tasty as well.
The maitre de and the wait staff were very friendly and welcoming. The views are stunning from the seats near the window.

This hotel is stunning. As you’re driving up, it literally takes your breath away… it really is like stepping back in time.
I’ve been here on numerous occasions over the years, but I figured I’d write a review about my most recent experience. I was here this past weekend for a conference. I arrived Thursday, and ended up leaving Monday. They slipped a note in our check in package that said if we wanted to stay an extra night, it would only be $ 99. My almost three year old was having the time of her life, so of course I jumped on it.
Here are a few pointers for folks wanting to stay here.
Price: First of all, this is not just a hotel giving you a bed. It’s a resort — hence the sometimes elevated price. There is always something to do — during our stay, there were water balloon fights for the kids, milk and cookies for them every afternoon, arts and crafts, horseback riding, carriage rides, story time, movies by the pool, plus entertainment in the Cave bar almost every night.
Dining: The food has come a long way over the years. The Bretton Arms Dining room is always my favorite, but this time I skipped it since I had my daughter. It doesn’t seem as family friendly, though I’m sure it is. The main dining room didn’t disappoint. Stickney’s also had great food for the most part, though we don’t eat red meat and their black bean burger was super bland. The Rosebrook bar also has lighter fare, which is good in a pinch if you can’t get into one of the other restaurants. Just be aware though — if you sit in the conservatory, which they claim to wait on, you will be waiting a VERY long time. And that’s the reason this review is four out of five stars. EVERY time we sat in the conservatory, we were completely ignored until we got the attention of a server. They would help other people in the room and walk right by us
For breakfast, I don’t recommend the breakfast buffet for the price. Great food, but not $ 32 worth of great food. The room service breakfast prices are actually fairly reasonable and there’s always the café downstairs. If you sign up for the Omni Select Guest program, they will bring complimentary beverages to your room in the morning, with some lighter fare for a few bucks extra, (think muffins and bagels.) Just make sure to hang your menu choices on the door the night before — and ask for a menu if you don’t have one. We did not and I had to ask.
The room: We had a family suite on this trip. It was two rooms with a shared bathroom. A little cramped, but decorated very well and the beds were super comfortable. This is an old hotel, so remember, the rooms are going to reflect that. Not a ton of outlets, some rooms smaller and more quirky than others. The nice thing is, there isn’t a bad view in the hotel. Even if you’re not facing the mountain.
The grounds: Take advantage of the grounds and trails. There’s also a nice playground down by the outdoor pool. Lots of trails to hike along, a little river — and of course a golf course. I don’t play golf, but apparently it’s a nice one. The stables are also open if you want to peek in at the horses at any time.
Contrary to a few of the reviews on here, this is NOT the hotel Stephen King stayed in that inspired him to write The Shining, (that was the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO.) However, the Mount Washington is rumored to have many ghosts of its own — the most famous of which is one known as Princess Carolyn. There is a lot of history of her story to be found in the hotel, and they even set a seat for her every night in the Main dining room. Definitely ask around!
So, all in all, a beautiful place where we could easily spend a week at a time. Recommend highly, for a romantic getaway or families alike. Enjoy!
PS. Midweek deals are definitely worth taking advantage of here! And if it’s peak season, make reservations at the restaurants well in advance on weekend nights!

I want to stay here every time I go to New Hampshire. It is hands down one of the most beautiful hotels in the country. It is fancy and being there makes you fancy.
I went for a work event so we mainly had buffets. Everything was really good, from the breakfast s’mores to the clam chowder. It is an excellent place for large functions– as I was in a group of 200.
My room was in the Bretton Arms Inn on site. It was beautiful, clean, and within easy walking distance from the main hotel. There is a walking path that is lit at night.
The spa is amazing. It is the cozy robe kind of spa where you can be pampered and avoid other people if you want. I had a excellent facial that made me look amazing. The massage was so comforting that I almost fell asleep.

I just got to the hotel and maybe it’s fabulous but it took an hour and fifteen minutes for my room to be cleaned and available (and this after I stopped my three times with an «almost done» promise) well after the 4pm check in time and a promise of a phone call. Not apologetic at all.
Get to my room and the keys aren’t actually in the package that was provided!
If they can’t manage check-​in what can I expect for the remainder of my trip?

The following review is for the grounds and common interior areas.
The first impression as you drive up is quite impressive. Massive white structure with a bright red roof with majestic mountains as the back drop.
The is surrounded by 2 golf courses. There a few scenic walking paths for exploration.
There are both indoor and outdoor pools. Shopping, snack shop, small gym, and historic décor.
We checked out The Cave which led to a big empty room, dark and hollow with rocks. Overrated. May have been different years before or mid– renovations at this time.
The upper level veranda is ideal for taking in some drinks and light snacks while absorbing striking views.

Stayed here for two nights with the wife and kids. Beyond the inherent beauty of the hotel exterior and its natural surroundings, this place has little to offer. As a previous reviewer said, this is a great place to stop and have a cocktail but not worth the dough to stay the evening. We felt like we were getting nickel and dimed at every turn. Valet and bellman service below mediocre. The restaurant stickneys is overpriced and the breakfast buffet is nowhere near worth it. Have dinner in Littleton instead.

The hotel and grounds are exceptionally beautiful. However, there needs to be more redeeming qualities. The service was quite the opposite. How is this place a Four Diamond hotel? It’s very old but it shows in the small rooms, making it less historic than simply a bit run down. The tiny room had virtually no amenities which equals over-​priced in my book. Add lazy and inconsiderate staff to the mix and we should have just stayed at the AMC Highland Center up the road.
When we arrived, we used the valet for the car. Standing there with the Valet staring at an open trunk full bags in front of us, I waited a minute, then decided I better just grab them all myself because he was clearly not going to be helping. So much for a bell hop or any help from the valet.
At check-​in, I tried to speak to two employees, neither of whom were on the phone or with a guest. Neither looked up, but when I tried to get their attention one of them put her index finger in the air giving me the universal «wait and don’t speak» gesture. (By all means, at your leisure. I am merely a weary traveler apparently paying too much for your hotel.)
We had a lovely over-​priced, but delicious meal at Stickney’s.
The next morning when we were leaving I stood outside with all our bags waiting for a valet. No one showed for about ten minutes. I went inside to see if someone from the Registration desk might be able to track down the Valet. She took my ticket, wrote down the number, and made a phone call. She said, «No one is answering so I’m not sure what I can do to help.» She handed my valet ticket back to me and started another task. Ummmm… Okay…
I went back outside to wait for the valet. He showed up finally, took my ticket, then brought the car around. He then started joking about the car with another employee, making insulting jokes about the color and size. It was a cheap little yellow rental that we left in a parking lot while we hiked for the week. Apparently because we didn’t waste money on a luxury rental we didn’t pan on driving other than to and from the airport it deserved derision by the valet staff.
I’m baffled by any review that gives this place a review higher than two stars. Walk the grounds, have a cocktail, but stay somewhere else.

We had a great stay. Between restaurant manager Ben and our server Greg, the main DR experiences were delightful. The tenderloin was so good I had it twice.
Plus, due to a prior commitment, I had to decline an invitation to be in the wedding of a dear friend last month, so rather than a tangible gift, I treated them to MWH for the weekend. They have never been, although they claimed it felt like it, as I’ve been telling about our own experiences there for decades, ha. They too had a wonderful weekend and will be back.
On Saturday afternoon, five of us were sitting and talking on the veranda overlooking the first hole and my wife noticed a photographer setting up gear. He explained that he was about to go hide in the woods to capture some candid photos during a surprise engagement happening at 6:30. I was otherwise involved in conversation but she saw the whole thing. She finally pulled me away, when she saw him on one knee and I flashed back to 1988 when I was in a similar position but on the Bridal Trail out back, and with a stable hand holding our horses.
So I dashed and grabbed a bottle of Veuve Cliquot and when the newly engaged couple strode up on the veranda I introduced myself and presented it to them. It was the same vineyard and vintage champagne that I chose for myself and my future bride and we enjoyed it so much, on the same date, so many years ago.
For the rest of the weekend I seemed to bump into that couple again and again. On walks, in the dining room, in the lobby. Each time, their appreciation was genuine and repeated over and over. I think they’ll be back. I bet we bump into them again too.
What fun it is to see so many have such a good time.

I sort of can’t believe no one has written about PTSD memories from «The Shining».
This hotel is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL. There is nothing about it that’s not majestic and like a snapshot from days past. The lobby is beautiful, grand, and that fireplace!
The restaurant was very pleasant, especially since I had two young boys who are not usually up for fine dining, but the waiter made really nice accommodations for them as there was no true kids menu. He split a burger in two for them, split the fries, brought lakes of ketchup, all was good.
But when we walked upstairs through the hallways, I swear the hair on my arms was standing up the whole time. I kept seeing little Danny riding his tricycle madly down the halls, and those eery twins staring at him, and the awful room 217 scene.
It’s easy to see why they chose this place to film the movie way back when. The hotel is still the picture of grandeur and opulence. You have to see it to believe it.

Can’t comment on what it’s like to stay in this beautiful old hotel, but played $ 2 tourists poking around for an afternoon and having some lunch at Stickneys (review to follow). We knew some of the history in advance, with the creation of the International Monetary Fund here in 1944, but takes on a whole new significance to see the «Gold Room» where history was made. We took advantage of the free guided historical tour. Our guide, Cathy, was animated and had lots of fun tidbits to impart.
Didn’t know the hotel, or rather one of the rooms, was believed to be haunted by the wife of the man who built the hotel. After being widowed, she then married a prince and from then on would only be referred to as «Princess Caroline». Quite the Leona Helmsley of her day. Her suite, Room 314, is where her spirit is believed to reside. Some tours are lucky enough to get in for a look see if the room isn’t occupied, but not so for us. And we had to be quick in some places like the Conservatory and dining room, as a wedding reception was to take place that afternoon.
It was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon on a cold, blustery day. All the staff we encountered were cheerful and friendly, even though the place was really busy with lot of families milling around, checking in/​out, people taking advantage of some late season skiing. Maybe one day we will get a chance to have the overnight guest experience.

OMG take me off your email list. I stayed there once in 2011 and I’ve tried unsubscribing multiple times (sometimes getting a broken link) and resorted (no pun intended) to CALLING to get taken off and was first transferred to Critters Café or something then called back and was transferred to the front desk who put me on hold and then hung up on me. BUSH LEAGUE. I don’t want your emails every week as I live in California so shut up already and get your crap together and fix your email links.
The resort is nice but I do remember seeing a bloody gauze on the ground in the dining area and being woken up by screaming kids in the hallway. So there’s that too.

I did not stay at this hotel, but stopped by and hung out for a little bit. Beautiful hotel, with beautiful views. We had a couple of drinks in the lobby, which still had Christmas decorations up (It was like January 2). Very charming feel.
