Yes, my hours are 8:30 AM in the morning until 6:00 PM six days a week — however I can deliver outside of those hours as well. You never know when you’ll be craving a warm farmhouse apple pie or freshly baked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies :)

I also deliver to the Boulder-​metro area: Gunbarrel, Niwot, Louisville, Erie, Lafayette, etc. Farther than that? Please call.

History

Established in 2012.

Susan’s Bakery opened for business in the nascent hours hours of 2012 (that’s January 1, 2012) but was born in my brain years ago when I decided that I would love to bake cakes and cookies for a living.

Fortunately I’m good at it!

So I am taking advantage of the recently passed «Colorado Cottage Foods Act» (PDF) to start my dream business from my home which is located in central Boulder right near the CU-​campus for easy delivery or pick-​up.

Well, here it is, the about Susan page and here I am, Susan, writing about, well-​me. Exciting, no? I’ve lived in Boulder so long that when I tell people the number of years they say, «well, you’re a native, then.» I am an Illinois expat who came here seeking education, beautiful scenery and better weather. I have not been disappointed.

I am, of course, an avid baker, and am obsessed with perfecting recipes so that everyone can find something to love. One of my greatest pleasures is to see people enjoying my food. I take pride in using real butter, heavy whipping cream, unbleached flour, and fresh, natural ingredients purchased as locally as possible. No it’s not low-​fat (mostly) but I am a believer in all-​things-​in-​moderation.

I was going to a close friend’s house to celebrate her birthday, and was tipped off by her husband that she loves coconut cream pie. Despite a somewhat time sensitive request, Susan was able to get the pie made, and even added a birthday candle.
The coconut cream pie was a huge hit, so much so that my friend requested Susan’s contact info the next day.
I highly recommend Susan not only for her delicious pies, but excellent customer service!

Susan and her cakes and her way of doing business are the best ever! I wanted a cake for my dear friend in Boulder. Susan’s website had a picture of a cake that was already exactly what I wanted, and what I would have tried to make myself if I were in the same city with my friend. She used the vanilla macarpone icing, choco cake, strawberries, and writing on the cake for my friend’s birthday. I called on Friday, and she was able to do it on Monday for my friend’s actual birthday. She delivered the cake along with chilled prosecco, before dinner. She texted me not just with photos of the final product, but of each stage so I could see the interior of the cake. And she texted me after she had made the delivery. I mean, this whole experience – the cake ideas Susan had, the ease of communication, the thoughtfulness of sharing details, the delivery, was all just fantastic.
Now here is what makes it *even better*: My friend, who is a great cook, along with her family, loved the cake, thought it was delicious, indulgent, a party in a cake. So on the quality and delight dimension Susan exceeded expectations just like she did in every other part.
And, this whole thing was remarkably affordable.

Susan is so sweet and helpful. She made me a custom key lime cake for my friends graduation party. I called around to different bakeries in Boulder asking for this custom order. Susan was the only baker that said they would do it. The cake was amazing and everyone loved it. I’ll be ordering more cakes from her in the future.

Susan’s bakery is the definition of quality and perfection. Whether you need a cake, cupcakes, or you’re just craving the best Zucchini bread of your life (seriously, DIVINE), Susan is the one to call. For an added bonus she will deliver or offer pickup, so what more can you really ask for? I first ordered a Zucchini bread which again, was nothing short of divine. A few days later my Mom came into town for her birthday, so I called back to get a birthday cake ordered (actually I texted her my order, so as not to ruin the surprise for Mom… again, perfection!) Even though she is normally closed on Mondays, Susan made an exception and went out of her way to make everything top-​notch, down to a candle and match taped to the top of the box. It’s obvious that she puts her heart, soul and creative thought into everything she does. Forget going anywhere else, just call Susan and thank me later (actually, thank Susan!). And don’t forget to order the Zucchini bread (made with olive oil, instead of butter no less!)

Susan’s bakery is the only one I use. I’ve ordered about 5 cakes & they’re all delicious. The best thing is that she’ll bring it to your house, office, wherever! When you eat her cakes it makes you feel like your grandma made it for you. She’s extremely nice & I feel like she puts her heart & soul into her work.

I needed a cake for a birthday, and instinctively googled local business in Boulder, as I’m now located in DC. Susan’s website came up and i decided to a little more research. I know ordering a cake day of is tricky and usually not an option for smaller bakeries, but Susan was willing to accommodate my order, and I couldn’t be more than happy! Originally, I wanted the cake delivered, but because it was last minute (my fault for not planning ahead of time), I had a friend pick up the cake instead.
She was professional, and prompt to text updates of the cake for me. She even included pictures of the cake progress. I know myself and family don’t like decadent desserts, so I opted for a yellow cake, fresh strawberries layered in the middle, and a vanilla whipped cream. I asked for candles, and because the birthday boy was over 20 (the number of candles per box) she included a few extra for me.
My friend was able to pick up the cake in time for the party, and said everyone raved about it. The cake is itself was not overly sweet, and had the charm and love from someone who truly enjoys the art of baking. I will for sure be ordering more baked goods from Susan, and love supporting independently own businesses!

Susan’s Bakery is a great place to get your CU-​Boulder student’s birthday cake, especially if you live out of the area! Susan is easy to work with, has lots of choices for sizes, flavors, and will deliver to the dorm with everything needed including plates/​forks/​napkins. She even has add-​ins, like milk, ice cream, etc. I ordered the cake on Friday for Saturday delivery — no problem! Delivered on time to a smiling son — Susan even texted me a picture of my birthday boy as he got his cake from her! And the reports on the chocolate/​vanilla marble cake with semi-​sweet ganache filling/​frosting are AMAZING! And her prices are very reasonable!

Even though there was a blizzard and electricity was turned off, she worked it out for me and made an amazing cake with a great delivery! I needed a last-​minute (um, day-​of) birthday gift for my friend in Boulder, and I live in California. I called Susan at 1:30 on a Saturday and asked if she could make a delivery of a dozen cupcakes happen that day. She said she was super busy, but she could get them delivered at the end of the day around 8:00. SOLD! She took my order over the phone and made sure she had all the details right. She even offered to text me photos of not only the baked goods but also my friend receiving them.
My friend wasn’t home when they arrived, but at least she got them on her birthday. I was so grateful for Susan’s help, and my friend said the cupcakes were soooo good.
Five stars all around, especially for the customer service. Highly recommend!

I ordered a Strawberry Delight with vanilla whip cream frosting for a baby shower and it was delicious! All of the guests were raving about it. The cake was moist and complex while the icing was light and a perfect complement to the strawberries that adorned the middle layer and top. Susan hand-​delivered the cake to our door and I was really impressed by the level of service she provided!

Amazing Experience with Susan !!
I had ordered a chocolate cake for my friend’s birthday in Boulder and had contacted Susan via mail. She was very responsive and the entire process was smooth. She sent me pictures of the cake (which my friend said was super yummy) and pics of delivering it to my friend. It was very affordable too and super delicious.

Absolutely outstanding customer service — and cupcakes, too!
I couldn’t have asked for a better gift to be delivered to my son’s dorm, and, the icing on the cake, Susan sent me a picture of my son with his birthday delivery (as well as pictures of the cupcakes themselves, which looked incredible, and, according to my son and all his friends, were absolutely delicious).
I added balloons to the order and Susan wrote out a card for us.
It was the most amazing value and service, as well as being incredibly delicious.
Can’t say enough good things. And can’t wait to order for another occasion.

My son just recently moved out of state and we wanted to send him a touch of home.
Susan took care of that with wonderful Valentines Sugar Cookies, iced just like we like them at home. She took photos of them in process, made a few extra, and delivered them to his work. She even got someone to take a photo of him and send it over after he got them. He had plenty to share with his new work family and they loved them.
She did a great job and I would definitely use her services again.

It was my boyfriend’s birthday and I needed a French silk pie stat! I texted her at 2 and the pie was ready for pick-​up before 5. My mother wouldn’t even make me a homemade pie on a moments notice. But it was DELICIOUS! Emergency birthday treats like this must happen fairly frequently because she added a candle and taped a match to the box! The pie was worth every very affordable penny. I ordered a strawberry delight cake from Susan based on the overwhelming positive review on Unilocal.It was ready within 24 hours but I was slightly disappointed over the basic appearance of the cake. However, as I took a bite of the cake later that day, it was just amazing. My boyfriend who doesn’t even like cakes in general loves it. I ordered cakes from other local bakeries previously but nothing can compare to the texture and the flavor of Susan’s cake. Now we just need an excuse to get a cake every month from Susan.

Susan’s Bakery is where I will get all my homemade baked goods for as long as possible. I ordered a strawberry rhubarb pie and asked for it to be more tart that sweet. That is EXACTLY what I got and it was perfect. When I picked it up, the pie was still warm and I was carefully instructed to keep the lid open to let it cool a little longer. Perfect! This was probably the best pie I have had in a very long time. Thank you!
PS. I read the reviews about how sometimes it takes a little bit to hear back from Susan to make an order, but my email was answered promptly within 24 hours (and I prepared myself for worst-​case scenario of a few days). Either way, prep for 3 day response, and you should be fine!

Wow — Amazing experience with Susan!
Answered text messages, called me back, and kept me up to date!
I ordered a chocolate stout cake with vanilla frosting and strawberries in the center the day before I needed it to be delivered.
She delivered it on time, sent me photos of the cake’s process, and even a photo of my boyfriend receiving the cake and balloon! Amazing… All at $ 20!!! I couldn’t believe how affordable this was with such great service and attention.

Ordered a Strawberry Delight cake with vanilla whipped cream frosting for my birthday. Susan was incredibly responsive and helpful in directing my daughter to pick up the cake.
But the cake. The cake. It looked beautiful, but the taste was better than it looked. Strawberries in the batter and between the layers of moist, melt in your mouth cake. The whipped cream frosting had just the right touch of sweetness and vanilla, with half strawberries encircling the top
We were all incredibly impressed. I must say that Susan gave us one of the best cakes we had ever eaten. Not only is she a supremely talented baker, but a genuinely nice person.
We would recommend Susan and her delightful cakes without hesitation and plan to purchase other goodies from her in the future.

I ordered birthday cupcakes to be delivered to the on campus dorm for my son’s girlfriend. Within an hour, Susan had already personally delivered them and sent me pictures of her receiving them as well. The order was packaged beautifully and included a personal birthday card too! I ordered a coffee cake to be delivered to my brother’s door and Susan was able to do it the next day at 9am! She even offered the option to include a happy birthday balloon and have a note attached to it. Prompt, affordable, and I heard the cake was even delivered fresh from her oven.

This review is overdue. Susan is just wonderful. I cannot say enough positive things about her and her products. Originally I found her through Unilocal!as I was looking to support a local baker. At our office we recently started bringing in a cake once a month to celebrate the birthdays in that month (honestly I was looking for an excuse to have company sponsored cake, but that’s another story). I found Susan on Unilocal!and after learning she offered free delivery, and a high star rating, thought we would give her a try. I’m so thankful I did.
As of today I’ve been ordering for just over 2 months and have ordered a total 4 separate birthday cakes and 3 ½ dozen cupcakes. Every time I call, Susan is prompt and curious over the phone. Everytime she delivers, she brings a smile with her.
There was one time when some wires were crossed (my fault) and something didn’t make it to her calendar. As the time of my meeting was approaching I called to check in and upon realizing the miscommunication (again, my fault), Susan saved the day and rushed over with some fresh scones she had on hand so I wouldn’t have to go to my meeting empty handed. The scones were so warm and delicious, everyone loved them and had no idea that they were not having the cupcakes I had planned.
Besides the fact that her products are above and beyond better than something from a grocery store, AND she offers great customer service, I think the thing that really makes Susan’s Bakery stand out is her personalized service. She brings a candle and a match for a birthday cake, you can ask for a Q on your cake for Quality Week, and according to her website, she’ll bring just about any other little thing you need to really make the event special.
I’ve read some other reviews claiming poor communication and missed dates. All I can say to that is, she’s human and probably running the business alone, offers free delivery, and I’ve never had a problem with this. Maybe she’s figured out whatever problem there was in the past, because again I’ve never had this issue and I look forward to ordering from her many many more times.

Gluten-​Free Chocolate Cake was Astonishing:
My mom ordered me a GF cake for my birthday.
It was incredible.
Personally, I don’t like sweets like lots of people do (soda for example) this though had the perfect amount of sugar and I think it’s something that I could eat a slice of everyday for the rest of my life.
Also unlike the majority of GF baked goods, this was super fluffy and seemed like a perfect normal cake.
It was perfect, like the perfect cake for me. I couldn’t imagine a better gluten free cake.
Plus Susan has fantastic prices. I don’t know how she does it.

A tiny bit hard to get a hold of but very well worth it (I assume it’s just because she is very busy)!! Does the little things that you just don’t see much of anymore (she sends pictures of the order and then sent a picture of the delivery:). It was a perfect way to send my granddaughter a cake for her birthday because we are so far away. Highly recommended!

I found susan’s on Unilocal,and based on all the great reviews, I chose to order my birthday cake from her versus some of the other overpriced and pretentious bake shops in Boulder.
Susan was very nice and helpful, she lead me in the right direction as far as what icing would go best with the green tea cake.
I ended up ordering the 9in green tea cake with cream cheese icing and the green tea whip icing in the center.
It turned out lovely (she added little blue kitty paw prints on it for me) and it tasted great!
The icing was wonderful, and went well with the green tea flavor in the cake.
It was not overly sweet at all, so if that sort of super sweet cake gags you like it does me, I would recommend the cream cheese whip icing.
Susan was also nice enough to deliver the cake to my husband’s office, so he did not have to go out of his way to pick it up, Another plus!
I would order from her again, as you can’t beat her fair prices $ 22 for a cake is a good deal,
when every other bakery is charging between 35 and 50!
I might try the cupcakes next time, I am eager to try several of her icing flavors, esp the Peanut butter icing.

I can not say enough about Susan’s Bakery! I called from Washington state to order cupcakes to be sent to my son at CU for his first birthday away from home. They were SUPER helpful in helping me decide what to order. The prices were reasonable.
I’m so glad that I found this bakery so that I can send my son a treat once in a while. They were nice enough to text me a picture of the cupcakes before they went out for delivery… they looked beautiful and very festive. Then, I got a picture of my son receiving the cupcakes!!! It brought tears to my eyes… next best thing to baking them and delivering them myself! Actually, it was probably better since, according to my son, they were awesome cupcakes. He was VERY popular with his cupcake eating friends!

She nailed it!!! I found Susan’s Bakery on Unilocal while searching for a bakery that would deliver to our son away at college in Boulder. The reviews were awesome and boy did she live up to them! I wanted to do
Something special for our son since it was his first year away at school and not with the family for his birthday. I loved that there were flexible and I’m sure tasty options such as cakes, cookies and cupcakes. We chose the cupcakes and were able to select three different flavors to make up a dozen. Not only was the delivery perfectly timed but Susan text me pictures of the finished «products» and also a picture of Our son receiving the delivery. And by the way, he says the cupcakes are wonderful!

I went here to get a cake for my boyfriend’s birthday. I emailed my order in at first, and after not hearing back after a few days I called. Susan quickly responded and set up my order.
She later called and said I would have to pick up my order 2 days early than planned because she would be out of town, but she promised it would still be good for the day. This wasn’t a problem.
When I arrived to pick up my cake there was no parking in front of her apartment building, I had to park a few minutes away which was really inconvenient.
She did meet me promptly in the lobby though to deliver the cake. Everything looked great!
Two days later it was finally time to light the candles and try the cake (I ordered a simple vanilla with vanilla frosting). The cake was okay, but not the best and I wasn’t a fan of the icing. Luckily my boyfriend seemed to enjoy it more than I did.
Overall it was an okay experience, but I probably will not be back again.
