I’ve been coming here for years. I’ve got kids and I’m constantly updating equipment as they try new things and outgrow others. Customer service is good, never had a problem.

I’ll never go back here. These guys have been rude to me for the last time.
Worst customer service I’ve experienced in my life.

My first review — I signed up to warn about how grumpy, unpleasant, and unhelpful the manager/​owner (?) is at BSR. It’s the kind of place that can ruin your day.

Stick to Craigslist and eBay…

The people that work here really need to get skilled in customer service. Being annoyed that they’ve got customers is pretty lame. My sister and her husband went in to pick up a snowboard that our nephew accidentally left and they treated her like trash. Mind you, they drove from Estes Park to get this and had a rough time getting there because the roads were flooded out. Absolutely ridiculous treatment and just plain jerk people working here. People should go elsewhere if they want to be treated like humans.

We consigned an item here, and we did not have luck selling it. We only waited a month and a half, and lowered the price once. Since it was a high end item, we decided not leave it longer and brought it home. When you consign an item at Boulder Sports, they will not call you when it sells, so you must call them to find out the item’s status. They give you an account number and you have to have it to get any information on whether it was sold. They will not give a discount either if a buyer comes in and asks for one. The price is set in stone. It is a busy place. Shoes seem to be the top seller. Staff was informative, but not overly friendly. All in all, our item didn’t sell, but it was worth trying.

Lucked out today and got my nephew snow pants, a ski jacket, goggles, gloves, and a neck warmer all for under $ 65. Picked up a pretty sweet jacket for myself last year, too. The guy working the counter said hi when I came in and talked shop for a bit after I paid for my gear and was very friendly. Won’t fulfill all my outdoors needs, but will definitely be one of my first stops when I need anything.

The idea of this place is great and when we first walked in and saw how much stuff there was, my boyfriend and I got pretty excited. Then it immediately went down hill from there.
To start, no one greeted us and almost seemed annoyed we were there. It was very uncomfortable. Then, there was a yelling match in the back between an employee and a customer. The employee was basically saying he wouldn’t work on the guy’s bike because it wasn’t nice enough and would be a waste of materials– The customer yelled «you’re F – ing rude!» And he was right.
Then later, as we checked out, I wouldn’t even call it customer service. He was the rudest, most arrogant jerk. I couldn’t believe the way he was talking/​arguing with us.
If I wasn’t so happy with my find, I would have just left. I hate the fact that I gave them business.
It made us both so sour after we left and put a damper on a nice Saturday afternoon. I definitely won’t be back and as it turns out, many of my friends have had similar experiences there.
Being a bunch of assholes is no way to run a business. You’re really not that cool.

This place is the classic example of a great idea that’s utterly negated by the execution. In theory, you should be able to find what you’re looking for since the place is packed with stuff, packed being the key word here. The bins and racks of dusty quasi organized stuff, much of it beaten and used up. The employees there are negligent at best if not downright hostile at worst. I’ve given the place a few visits (once after driving from across town to find a handwritten sign that they had closed 3 hours early due to lack of customers) really wanting to like the place and support local homegrown business and find a bargain on used gear. Regrettably, I won’t be back and can’t suggest that anyone else bother, unless you’re into that kind of disappointment and abuse.

I was there a while ago and there were a few people working there. one nice, one didn’t seem to care. that guy i even wondered if i smelled alcohol on his breadth. i hope i didn’t, but i sure thought i did. anyhow, this same guy wasn’t a guy who i wanted to give my money to, so i didn’t. their prices seem very high, and i would simply only go there at last resort. i won’t go back.

Okay, I had several people warn me about the awful customer service here, and boy they were right. I came here looking for climbing shoes and was very unsuccessful.
Despite their snarky sign asking customers to put shoes back into the right cubby, many of the shoes were in the wrong spots so I struggled to find anything that fit. I spent a good 15 – 20 minutes checking out the shoes and was never greeted or offered assistance. I was afraid to ask since I had heard that the employees were rude and unhelpful, so I just left and went to REI (where the people are friendly and the sizes and prices are clearly marked)

If you’re looking for great deals on great gear, look no further! Boulder sports recycler is the best used gear shop in Boulder. Just think of how many climbers skiers snowboarders hikers backpackers and bikers there are in the most outdoorsy city in the nation. All of them bring their used gear here!
This is a used gear shop, they keep no inventory, they won’t hold your hand while you shop and push you to make a sale. If you want a salesman educating you on every little senseless detail, go to REI or Neptune and pay full price for a shiny new product you’ll scratch up your first time using it. The staff at BSR is more likely to tell you, «this is a great deal» or «I don’t know too many details about this specific backpack, but I have a friend who has it and loves it». If know what you’re looking for and are willing to do a bit of research before you walk in the store, BSR can’t be beat.
I recently bought a pair of almost new $ 235 crampons for $ 70 and a pair of almost new $ 475 mountaineering boots for just $ 170. If you think this place is too good to be true, just stop by! Don’t miss the clothes and sleeping bags upstairs, great stuff to be found up there as well.

I came here on my first visit to Colorado during a month-​long road trip in May, and instantly fell in love with this sweet outdoor shop. I live in Denver, so the Wilderness Exchange store is much closer — but BSR takes the cake tenfold.
On my first visit I snagged a great plum Patagonia members only jacket for only $ 26, which I wore for the remainder of the trip. My travel mate scored a barely-​used climbing helmet for dirt cheap.
During my return visit, I kicked things up a notch and walked away with another great, and much more heavy duty winter jacket from Patagonia for only $ 48, a sweet old percolator for $ 6, and a (not used) pair of pink wool socks for $ 12.
Every item in the store is quality, and they have everything from bikes, snowboards, and climbing shoes to ski bibs, guide books, and yoga pants. The guys that run the register are very friendly, and even posted one of my photographs on BSR’s facebook!

What a great place to have around. Not sure how many consignment places there are in the area — I know there’s one in Golden. Definitely check this place out — seems like somewhere we/​you/​I need to visit regularly to ensure that we don’t miss too many interesting items. Prices didn’t seem thriftstore cheap, but way better than full retail! Thumbs up for now — will update my review & rating as I shop there more…

I’ve been consigning sports gear at Boulder Sports Recycler for over 10 years. They know their stuff, and know what will sell. As a result, they are pretty selective about what they take on consignment. But that means that buyers get good quality equipment, and your equipment is highly likely to sell (they are at 95%+ range on selling items I have consigned over the years). Recommended!

Chonard says we should buy used clothing, and he owns Patagonia, one of the awesome brands found used at BSR!
If you need anything for your sporting missions, go to BSR before you set out to REI or, God forbid BOC, GO TO BSR! They will have what you need for a fraction of the cost.
The other side of the coin at BSR is EASY SALES. Awesome gear collecting dust? Bring it in for consignment and get some serious cash, whoo-​hoo!
They don’t buy or take crap. The «Complaints Dept. consists of a Scythe screwed to a board that reads «Complaints Dept.» The guys smell of climbing and biking, which is why you can believe they know their stuff!
If you like individuality and don’t have special needs that are filled by $ 1200 down jackets and overdone salemenship and just need some quality gear, go to BSR. Tell them Surfer Erik sent ya!

If you do anything outdoors and haven’t heard about this place, then you NEED to go. This place has everything, most all second hand but some new as well. Ice crampons, carbon fiber road bike, sling bags, hiking boots, paddles, wetsuits, etc. Whenever I need some new gear I check this place out first, the guys here are helpful and the gear is organized well. Also if you have gear you want to sell I believe they do consignment.
