Craig’s Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

I had a terrible experience using these guys at my home in Kirkland (East of Market) and personally would never use them again. Keep in mind that my carpet was relatively new and we were only getting it cleaned because we were in the process of selling our home. We actually spent a decent amount of time debating with our Realtor whether it was even worth cleaning the carpet because it was really in great shape, with the exception of a couple of very minor spots. But in the end, we figured it couldn’t hurt to get it cleaned — boy were we wrong!
Not only did Craig’s not adequately clean my carpet (cream colored, wool), they left new, substantial and obvious stains on the carpet that appeared to be caused by a burning/​singing of the fibers (I believe either from using the wrong or too much chemicals, the heat of their machine or a combination of the two). On top of that, after they were finished, the carpet throughout the entire house generally became spotty, darker and worse than before I had them «clean» it.
At first, I thought, OK, maybe the soap/​chemical mix simply did not wash out all the way with respect to the new, large stains (the carpet was still wet and not fully dried, as it had only been a day). I called them back the next day to let them know, and, to their credit, they promptly returned to look at it and try to rectify the problem. But their attempt to fix the problem was laughable. After showing them a large, visibly dark stain, they had the gall to say «I don’t see anything,» followed by «I think it’s just the lighting in here.» Then they began trying to treat the large stains with a spray bottle and a bath towel. They said to wait a day or two. Not surprisingly, this did not work. After a few days, when the carpet fully dried, we realized that the carpet throughout the house was now spotty/​darker and appeared «dirty,» as I mentioned at the end of the paragraph above.
Over the course of a few days, my wife and I spoke to Ivy and the owner-​son (Dennis, I think?) on the phone. In sum, this was our experience, in no particular order:
— They told us there was nothing more they could do, besides coming back to try to further treat the carpet. At that point, I was no longer interested in having them possibly make things worse, as I was in the process of selling my home.
— They tried to blame us for the stains, by saying that we must have used a cleaning agent previously that did not react well with their soap. In some small areas, we did (we have kids and kids spill things), but we certainly did not go around cleaning the entire house (that’s what we hired these guys for). And the fact is, that most of the significant new stains that appeared were in places that we never tried to clean and that had previously been immaculate (e.g., in the master closet and master bedroom).
— Ivy called to yell at my wife (because somehow we wronged them).
— When I raised the possibility that I would expect their insurance to cover the cost of potentially replacing the carpet (we’re talking about $ 50k-​75k worth of high-​end carpet), the son-​owner (again, I think Dennis) literally said to me that if he had to use his insurance, it would put him out of business and he would not be able to provide for his family. Therefore, he would not under any circumstances use his insurance. (That right there shows you what kind of company you’re dealing with, and that they certainly do not stand behind their work.)
— Peppered throughout these conversations was more blaming and finger-​pointing on their part, as well as some more attempted guilt-​trips.
Throughout all of this, my Realtor (who referred me to Craig’s) agreed with us that the carpet looked worse after it was «cleaned.» He was also disappointed and surprised at how they managed the situation afterwards.
Luckily for me, the carpet did not affect the sale of my home (the particular buyers were going to replace it anyway), and so this did not need to go any further. If it was an issue, I would have had to sue this company, which would be a nightmare to deal with. I would not recommend that anyone use them to treat high-​end, expensive carpet (such as wool) based on my interaction with them. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I had great results using Craig’s Carpet Cleaning! This family business is serious about cleaning and making sure you are satisfied. Their prices are reasonable too. They were on time, very efficient and professional. Some of the traffic areas and stairs could have gotten a little more attention.

Friendly, professional, punctual. I’ve had Kelly and Dennis out at least three times in the last few years and they always do a fantastic job. The first time didn’t know how much funk had built up until they were done cleaning, they looked so good I’ve been able to put off replacing the carpet. Now I just call them whenever I start to notice a build up and they always get the job done.

They showed up a bit ago and got right to work. Were never too busy to answer questions and let us know what steps we needed to take for drying and preservation. The cleaning process didn’t take long and they handled moving whatever various pieces as appropriate.
Afterwards, when I asked about how often this needed to be done, instead of going for the easy frequent repeat he said maybe once a year at most given our low traffic environment.
All in all the work was great, fast and reasonably priced.
These guys are great, both as people and professionals and I highly recommend them.

I have had Craig’s Carpet Cleaning service my high-​end residential leasing units for fifteen years. They consistently perform high quality work as a standard of their business practice. I trust them exclusively with the security of residential living as they perform service. Ivy is quick with billing and scheduling. The guys have a great attitude and advice. They really know how to make you feel the job is going to be done right the first time, on schedule and take car of all your concerns. I wouldn’t use anyone else! Last year, I had an elderly dog who died, and unfortunately during his final illnesses, did a lot of damage to the carpet in my living room. The situation was compounded by the new dog, who arrived mid-​year, and began marking his new territory. In short: the living room carpet reeked.
I spent a lot of time trying to get rid of the odor, and discovered a second problem — there was so much crud in the carpet pad that when I tried to clean the carpet, it would look okay at first, then as it dried, a brownish color would wick up.
Makes you want to come to my house, doesn’t it? I didn’t have any guests last year, because I couldn’t control the problem myself and figured replacing the carpet would be the only solution.
I finally called Craig’s, because I’d used them several years ago to clean a sofa, and thought maybe they would agree to come look and see if the carpet was salvageable — which they agreed to do, and came out a couple of days later.
I am kicking myself for not calling them much, much sooner. The carpet looks nearly new, and they got out stains I thought would never go. They were able to manage the color wicking — there’s still a bit of it, but it’s vastly improved. And the best part? The smell is gone!
The owner and his son were wonderful about explaining what they were doing, discussing options, and telling me what they thought would and wouldn’t work. They were prompt and friendly. They also gave great advice on how to maintain the carpet in between professional cleanings, to keep it looking it’s best.
I’m thrilled to have found these guys! They’ve saved me from having to replace my carpet.

Dennis did a great job cleaning the carpets in our new home. We wanted to get it done while the house was empty and they were able to schedule us right away. Dennis is friendly and professional, explaining what he is going to do and how long it should take. The corner protectors are a great touch — new to me and much appreciated. The work was completed quickly and looks great. They are the best. I will use them in the future and will recommend them without reservation.

These guys are great — have used them 3 times over the past 7 years and wouldn’t go anywhere else! They are flexible and accomodating!

These guys are great! I’ve used them over and over for the past 3 or 4 years. We have 2 pugs who shed like mad, a cat, and 2 klutzes. They do a great job at getting all of the pet hair and dander out of the sofas, charis and rugs. Carpet gets a lot of traffic coming in and out of the house, from the kitchen, people eating (food, wine, crystal light– stains like nobody’s business BTW) and they do great work at getting the stains from outside and pets stains out of the carpet!
They are quick, flexible and go above and beyond!

WOW!!! Soo refreshing to find a business that actually cares about attention to detail, and takes pride in their work!!! Now my go to guys!!! Extremely personable and professional as well as efficient! These guys will go the extra mile every time without even being asked and Ivy in the office is soo friendly and accomidating! As a professional, I use them quite a bit and am never disappointed, never just happy but allways impressed!!!

These guys are the best. Both father and son are very professional but also add the personal care. Also, their cleaning technique is second to none. We have used others but Craig’s seems to get our house carpets more clean. They really go above and beyond and are also just good people.
They are also fairly quick, use plenty of corner protections, and basically spend the extra time to ensure we will always be return customers. I can’t recommend them enough
