Bella and Max is a Family Hair Salon located in Bothell’s Country Village, with some cool gifts we offer as well. Oh and everyone that works here is human, with feelings… doing the best we can. Always,

We provide salon services to both children and adults, with three separate salons under one roof. Our specialty has been infants to young kids for years, but we now have a women’s design studio and a barbershop. We are always on the cutting edge, with education being core to the business.

For children we provide fun cars to sit in, movies, and a surprise after the cut. Our stylists have many years of experience and we always stand behind our services and communicate with you to make sure your child gets the haircut you want. If you are ever unhappy for any reason, we will always work with you to make things right. Please call us first before you yelp a review that can be taken care of with a simple phone call. We all have bad days (employees and customers alike) and it is super easy to get on a keyboard and write something, but we would love to talk things out first. We can usually work it out for you and remedy your issue.

When you come to Bella and Max, either to shop or for a haircut, we strive to exceed your expectations and offer a great experience.

History

Established in 2007.

Bella and Max originally opened in 2007 in Bothell’s Country Village on the boardwalk with a boutique downstairs and hair salon upstairs. We have won Evening Magazine Best in Western Washington three times, the Parentmap Golden Teddy twice and several other local awards. We have now grown to offer family services so the whole family can come in at once and it is super convenient.

Fine haircuts. Some rude employees with poor customer service attitude. We experienced both good haircuts for our daughter and borderline to outright rude treatment on multiple occasions over last 2 years. A stylist and receptionist were snotty to me again recently and we won’t be going back ever. You can do better than this place.

Last weekend, I called to make an appointment for my boy’s haircut here for the first time. The receptionist at the time asked which time I wanted: noon, 1 or 3. And I chose noon. She took down my name, my son’s name and our phone number and she confirmed one last time before we hung up «Next Saturday at noon!» We came in yesterday at our appointment time and the receptionist yesterday said she couldn’t find our name. She was pretty rude about it, just kept on repeating over and over again «Nope, we don’t have you for today!» I asked if maybe they put us down for another time or day, and she just said unapologetically, «Nope! You’re not even in our system» She was so rude and annoying about it. She never even offered if we could come in at a different time that day or the next day. She just said «We’re fully booked this weekend!» I asked if that scheduling mistake happens a lot there and she said «Yeah sometimes our system would freeze and the information didn’t get saved.» But even after she said that there was no apology at all, just another «we’re fully booked!» She treated us like we’re some kind of walk-​ins trying to get in. I was so upset!!! We had planned our day around this appointment time and wasted our time driving there. We ended up scheduling for another appointment for the following weekend before we left. Oh which I HAD TO ASK her for the next availability, she still never offered it to me the whole time! And she did say I will get a confirmation email (which I still haven’t received) but I did make her write it down on their business card so I’ll have proof next time. However, looking back now I’m so upset with their customer service, I don’t think we will be back at all! Bella & Max, you should update your computer system to avoid scheduling mishaps in the future (what a waste of time) and maybe get better employees with better customer service if they’re going to be the face of your business! So disappointing!

I wish children’s haircuts weren’t so pricey, but getting to sit in a Thomas train or airplane while watching TV makes it worth it I suppose! :) Brought my oldest son here for a haircut since Bella and Max are close to where we live and we had heard good things from a friend who also brings her children here. The stylist was very nice and made sure to check with me at different points throughout the haircut to see if it was to my liking. There is plenty of space for other siblings to play at the train table and/​or browse books on the large couch. It’s also nice that they’re located in the Bothell Country Village, so there’s things to do before and/​or after their haircuts.

Took my daughter here for her first haircut. The salon is definitely set up nicely and has potential which is the reason for my 2 stars. Just was looking for a little trim to even her hair out and allow it to grow out. I made an appt and requested a specific stylist based on reading reviews and bios online. When we walked in and were being walked to the back the stylist we had requested (I think the owner) quickly passed my daughter off to one of the obviously new stylists… without even asking me if that would be ok or introducing the new stylist. The girl cutting my daughters hair was not friendly, didn’t even ask me what I wanted done to her hair, etc. I walked back over later to find she had parted my daughters hair on the wrong side and added several more layers of uneven bangs that I didn’t want at all. Her hair on the bottom is completely uneven and looked better before we went in. Can’t believe I paid 30 dollars for that experience… won’t be back.

Called and asked for any available appointments for Sunday. Lady was short and said nothing available tell Monday and then basically hung up. Didn’t even ask to schedule Monday! Might need some customer service training. Definitely calling someplace else!

I’ve been coming here for about 6 years and now take my 3 kids in about every 6 weeks. I’ve had some not so awesome experiences but spoke with the manager about it who was so understanding and so accommodating. Truly a gem of a person. the key is finding the right stylist for your child and family. That can take a few trips but totally worth it! We got haircuts by Katie today and she did amazing with my 2 and 4 year old boys. She was patient with my continuously moving toddler and me who couldn’t quite make up my mind on what type of haircut I wanted for them. In the end I’m so happy with both cut and my experience.

This was the first professional haircut for my son and it was terrible! I could have done better but figured they could have straightened him out before our family pictures. I was wrong, they made it worse. He now has lopsided bowl cut. Nothing is blended. The sides by his ears are uneven. I would not recommend bringing your kiddo here.
11÷6÷2015. Multiple times the owner contacted me offering to fix the bad haircut only after offering every excuse she could for the poor job they did. If sitting on my lap due to my son not wanting to sit in the chairs was going to result in a terrible job I should have been told. I did want the length to stay on the longer side, apparently they can’t blend a longer haircut together. They did use trimmers on his hair which resulted in a short side and long top. Guess they don’t really know how to fix haircuts. Will not be back.

Updated Review: Okay, I gave it one more try and Bella & Max nailed the coffin shut this afternoon. We arrived for an appointment for my son about five minutes early. We waited for 25 minutes for the stylist. 25 minutes. Why take a reservation at all? That was the last $ 25 Bella & Max will ever get from me.
Original Review: Bella and Max is really hit or miss. We’ve had good experiences and terrible experiences here. It’s dependent on the stylist. With my son, things are usually fine, regardless of stylist. With my daughter, well, let’s just say I won’t bring her here again. This last visit, we had an appointment and when we arrived, the stylist was nowhere. We waited for 20 minutes for a haircut for a three year old. Then, when she finally arrived, she said, «We’ll have to hurry – my next appointment is in ten minutes.» WHAT?! The stylist we got (I’m not naming names) was rude, lazy, and very off-​putting. My daughter has fine, curly hair, and she spent a good five minutes disparaging her hair for being frizzy. She asked why it was so frizzy and I said, «She’s three. She sleeps on it, it gets frizzy. She brushes is, it gets frizzy.» That’s what curly hair does, especially fine hair like that of, oh I don’t know, A CHILD. Isn’t this a child’s salon? Shouldn’t she know that?
Then she asked me how I’d like it cut. I told her I prefer some subtle layers/​shaping to maximize my daughter’s curls and she said, «Can’t I just cut a couple of inches off all the way around?» I stared at her. She backed down and started the cut. After literally four minutes, she asked if I wanted to check it out because she was done. The cut was not what I asked for; it was cut straight across the bottom, all the way around. I asked her to fix it and she said she didn’t have time because her next client had arrived. She then chastised me for not taking better care of my daughter’s hair (which is total BS, by the way) and ushered me out the door.
Let’s just say we won’t be back to Bella and Max.

I can only give this salon two stars because we had one good experience here and one bad one. The first gal to cut my son’s hair was friendly and calm.
The second gal didn’t have the children’s hairstylist vibe at all. She smelled like cigarettes, we wasn’t particular warm or friendly and she gave my son the worst haircut he has ever gotten. She was also 15 minutes late in taking his appointment.
Also, the front desk needs some serious organization. Even though I called several times, no one ever returned my phone calls. They want you to do all booking online. What if I had a question? What if someone didn’t have a computer? Seriously. Return your calls! When we showed up for our scheduled appointment, no one was manning the desk. As we left, it was a mish-​mosh of different stylists checking people out. I would expect that from a low-​end chain store, not a speciality salon. They should have a full time receptionist or two.
I don’t know if they have just gotten too big with too many stylists renting space or what, but it felt very disorganized. We found much better service at another area children’s salon and will be going to them from now-​on.

What a great little place!
I posted for recommendations on a Snohomish County Facebook page, and got several responses that steered me toward Bella and Max for children’s haircuts.
Took my one year old daughter there today for her first «official» cut and the entire experience was FANTASTIC. We saw Shaylene (sp?) who was quick, thorough, obviously well versed with toddlers, friendly, and we left with the cutest new ‘do! Not a tear from my baby the whole time. Hanging out in the Thomas train chair was cool enough for her!
$ 25 for the cut may be a little pricey, but so very worth it. We have found our place!

This place is the best! After two years of horrendous haircuts with my son, we finally found Bella and Max. Granted, he still screamed for a few appointments, they are totally prepared and equipped to handle it. Now that I have two kids who actually enjoy getting their haircuts, we adore Ms. Alison and make a 25 minute drive to see her for their regular haircuts. You can’t go wrong in choosing Bella and Max!

I won’t reveal our faves but give anyone a shot and you’ll be happy! They handle kids haircuts when kids are at their worst… The DVD player and fun seats make it more bearable and even fun for the kids.

I decided to try Bella and Max after I had a bad experience trying to go elsewhere for my three year old’s first real haircut.
I called Bella and Max just before 2pm and they got me in for a 2:30 appointment with Christi. She was great with my son (he was pretty nervous) and he ended up with the cutest cut. Overall the experience was great. We’ll definitely be back.

Ask for Crystal, she’s nice and gets along well with children. I’m sure most the stylists here are. Kids love the car cutting chairs and the kids movies keep them occupied during the haircut. Will come back to see her again!

The set up for children’s hair cuts could not be better. They get a basket of toys to hold while they sit in any variety of plane, car, and train, along with a movie playing. My daughter always gets a great cut too!

If I could give zero stars I would! Had a scheduled 9:30 apt for my daughter and drove from Camano Island and it’s 9:42 and no one is here!!! Total bs!!! And I was email confirmed my apt twice-​how unprofessional can you get!!! Do not come here!!!

Last week I came with the two children I nanny, the little boy the day prior had gotten his hair cut at another salon and it was horrid. So the girls not only fixed his hair but Kristi cut the little girls thick knotty hair perfectly and sent us home with magic in a bottle to get her daily tangles out. Well she n I hit it off so I asked her if she could fix my haircut (short inverted bob) and she said yes!
Yesterday I came in and she made my cut look so much better. I love it, she took her time, was professional and extremely polite!
I highly recommend this salon for the children and adults!

I made an appt a few hours prior to arrival for my 14 month old son’s first haircut. Technically my husbands barber trimmed him up a few months ago but he was not excited about it so we didn’t get very far. I checked in 5 minutes early and the salon was empty for the most part. Cute boutique area with a small train table. Looks like a regular salon but with a special room with custom designed «chairs» for the little ones. The stylist I was assigned wasn’t finished yet so they let another gal trim him up. Not sure how experienced she was but she did just fine.
We walked into the back room and even though I had some hesitation as to whether he would sit still for this, they had Frozen playing on the TV so I knew my son would be mesmerized. .. its his favorite movie. We perched him in a bright red race car and strapped him in. Tried to keep his hands busy with cars. The first time I took him somewhere else he fidgeted and screamed and tried to grab the ladies hands away from his head. This time he did great! 15 minutes later we left with an adorable haircut. Stylist Kendall was personable and accommodating, had no problem dealing with him when he got frustrated and tried to rip the smock off.
I will definitely take him here for his next cut. I gave 4 starts because it seemed a little pricey for a baby haircut but I’m sure Country Village has pricey rent and I understand they are trying to pay bills. It was raining outside so I didn’t opt for the «Child’s First Haircut Package» that would have included a train ticket. I paid $ 22 for his 15 minute cut.
