Rude, lazy, incompetent.

Terribly unprofessional. Tried to work with them through a different realtor. Im moving from about 2hrs away and have been making day trips to see apartments. Took time out of work on a whim to put in an application on an apartment I really wanted a couple days after seeing it, learned there was another app on it and offered more than the asking price. Then, despite a perfect credit rating and having photographed a check made out to them for one months rent, they then told me I needed to have a certified bank check (basically cash) made out to their escrow account, and would have to either pay to overnight it to them or hand deliver it in order for my application to move forward, and MAYBE get the apartment. Called to express my concern and to offer a credit card number on the phone in lieu, only to be told the apartment had been rented, despite the fact a made a higher offer!
I felt I was given the run around, and didn’t see their negative reviews until after this experience. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have wasted my time. I’m glad it happened though, because if this experience is an indication of how they do business I’m so glad I saved myself the trouble.

Throughout the lease signing process, they outright stated we couldn’t afford the apartment according to their criterion, though we could very easily, and offered them a large chunk of change up front to prove it. It’s a bit frustrating to have someone insist that you can’t afford the apartment, and then still allow you to continue with the application process even after you have demonstrated evidence that contradicts them.
The addition of a co-​signer did nothing to help, and we were rejected without any reason given in a tactless manner after we had submitted our security deposit. I suspect they might have cashed our deposit had we not specifically instructed them to destroy the check.
Avoid.

From my experience, the G&P management team is astonishingly lazy. To be fair, they might stir a bit if you complain. They will certainly not be bothered, however, to lift a finger if it might result in basic, routine maintenance of the facilities they allegedly manage. It’s a pity, since the apartment I rented from them was in what appeared to be a (once) beautiful building on Beacon St. Under G&P, it seems to have degenerated into a derelict, weed-​strewn, mouse infested, grimy, repellent mess. It makes me sad that the things that make Boston unique have fallen into the hands of layabouts. Please, rent from someone else, if only for the betterment of humanity.
