My friends took me here for my birthday. It was really nice. It’s a tapas style restaurant and a small menu. I was kinda expecting a little more flare or bang from the food since it was so nicely designed and pricey, but it was just okay.

Casual spot as a love child of Katsuya and Nobu Hollywood. I didn’t know what to expect but assumed it would be a bit pricey because of its location on Canon Strip neighbor to the fame Mastro’s, Bouchon, Spago, Il Pastaio & Enotica Drago! On a weekend evening, the place was half full, we were sited right on time. The menu was simple and they offer Japanese tapas style rather than a sushi joint. The Spicy Tuna & Hamachi rolls were good. The Seared Kampachi with Yuzu sauce was nice & refreshing. The Octopus grilled with Peruvian sauce was decent. However all dishes were smaller portion styles. When the food was mediocre, nothing near Nobu quality, I was hoping on the drinks menu to be better! Surprisingly there was only 1 hot sake offer on the menu, but 7 other cold sakes?! Service was simply = FAIL. We had to ask for water, tea & sake a few times. The place was half full & however all the servers«seem» to be quite busy chatting! Odd for a new spot! Definitely good spot for a quick bite when you shop but nothing more! Note: Valet parking is 2 doors down in front of Caffe Roma!

I had no idea what to expect coming to Tiger. I fell in love immediately when our first two dishes came out: Tai Umami Jime(a Thai basil vinaigrette with seared kampachi, yuzu soy, caramelized shallots, wilted watercress and chanterelles) and Cajun Salmon –The Kampachi melts in your mouth. The Salmon was so tender and the salsa that comes with it was just right. The chef was nice enough to explain each dish(I wished I paid a little more attention, but I had a few glasses of champagne and a couple of mojitos) Then came the: Hirami Ceviche & Warm Lobster Sashimi By this time I’m dying because everything was so delicious. I was getting full, but since the food was so good I didn’t mind trying out more dishes. Before our hot dishes came out we each had one toro sushi using our hands. The first hot dish that came out was the tempura. A variation of tempura, Unagi, Hirame, Shishito and Anago. It came with three interesting but not overwhelming sauces, edamame aioli, chilli pepper and some orange colored sauce. Then the Short Ribs Cigar Leaf, so tender that it fell apart so easily, duck leg with kabocha ravioli, grilled hirame with tosa yuzu and crispy Tai with onigara sauce. Finally we for desert we had two long platters of different deserts: Chocolate and Peanut Butter Soufflé Apple Strudel Rhubarb Cobbler Mochi(chocolate coconut, lilikoi, lychee those are the ones I remembered) I recommend this place. That part of Beverly Hills needed a restaurant like Tiger. I want to come back during the day and try the lunch menu.

We dined here for my wife’s b-day, on suggestion from the Rundown LA. the ascetics of this place was cool and looked like modern asian, and the wait staff was great.(3 to 4 people asked us how our meal was through out the dinner). i am not one to complain about portion but the appetizers where very expensive for what you get e.g. miso soup 5 bucks and it was about ½ a cup, and the gyoza was 9 bucks for 4! Im game for spending some money on delicious food but when the portions are small and not very good, then i have a gripe. My wife said the rolls she had where awesome, crab hand roll and tempura shrimp rolls with squid ink. I had the short ribs, tempura, and a side of rice. My short ribs where great i would definitely recommend trying it. My tempura… well i don’t know i never got it ! and i got charged for it too! the waiter said there was something wrong with the computer so the chef never got the order. strange since we got all of our other food… i guess the owners friends(who where dining across from us as well) deserved better service than us because their food arrived much faster and with bigger portions than ours but anyhoo thats a side note. the lychee soju martini was excellent according to my wife so its a must try! Overall i wasn’t too impressed, i have had a way better japanese/asian style meal at a fraction of what i spent at this restaurant. if its a special occasion try another japanese spot if thats what your feeling. no cake no dessert no song nothing for my wife’s b-day, come on i go to Nobu Malibu and i get a song at least! i would go to try it once, but not on a regular basis.

I didn’t know this place was tapas style. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if it wasn’t. I was hungry and the portion sizes were just too small and pricey. Tapas dishes shouldn’t exceed $ 15 per dish but here they do. What we ordered… Baked crab roll — warm baked crab, rice, a little spice, wrapped in soy paper. I recommend it. The duck leg with kabocha ravioli — Duck wasn’t dry. The ravioli was amazing! Buttery, sweet, just perfect but a measly 3 pieces. Nigerian Prawns — Didn’t impress me. Not a big fan of fennel but it was done nicely. I could’ve done without this dish. Berry iced tea — They weren’t kidding when they said fresh berries. A pitcher would’ve been nice! Pineapple goat cheese donuts — I tasted no pineapple in these but basically they were round donut balls with creamy sweetened goat cheese inside served with vanilla ice cream and raspberry dipping sauce. There was a bit too much goat cheese inside which made it taste a little funky. Everyone was ordering the short ribs but being Korean we already eat a lot of short ribs and it’s not my favorite dish to begin with. Apparently it is a must try so if you’re a fan of short ribs I say go for it. Overall, I selectively liked aspects of each dish. For Asian tapas though, I think I will stick to Japanese Izakaya.

Just tried it out yesterday when I was in the neighborhood for a meeting, and really enjoyed it. It was pouring out and the place was quiet at noon, but by 1pm still had pulled in a good amount of lunch traffic despite the rain. The service was great, and the food even better. I tried the sashimi(excellent and innovative), the robata(steak fabulous, octopus a tad rubbery) and the tempura(very good, excellent sauces). I definitely will be recommending it to my friends, and look forward to coming back in the evening.

Blaaah food, no atmosphere, always empty. This place is dead-what happened? Everytime I drive by it’s empty. Food was decent the one night I did go, but nothing to write home about.

With a predatory name and no indication of fear in these economic times Tiger has boldly opened in the space formerly occupied by the … must I say it … unlucky Luckyfish, a not so bad, but nothing to rave about sushi spot I went to a couple times. Tiger has darkened the room with wood paneling. It’s got more of an evening look to it, even though it is certainly open for lunch, in this part of town where lunch is rather essential. A night crowd will be important to them with the people they have at the helm. These are the guys who did Nobu and the Villa. They’ve got pedigree. The concept wide-ranging. They are not Japanese traditional. They are definitely not limiting themselves to sushi. They have that, plus the usual tempura, sashimi offerings. They also have robata, but they are sneaking in some ambitious world-fusion. Not slop fusion, but with a gifted, disciplined hand. Listen up Koreans! They have installed something … I’ve certainly never heard of it before, called a Bincho Grill. I can imagine the hardworking, capable Latino cooks every restaurant eventually hires to work under the star chefs screaming Pinche! … er … Bincho! as they burn themselves on a killer grill that reaches 1000 degrees. A 1000 degrees without smoke! Do you hear that my favorite AYCEs, located in the 3000’s of Olympic Ave?! Stop ruining my couture dresses, and get yourselves one of these smokeless grills. Anyhow, I was ready to eat nicely this evening. As many of my Unilocal friends have noticed, I’ve been eating burgers. Imaginative, gourmet burgers, but burgers none the less. Time to transform into a lady. We shared fresh water eel, and yellowtail for appetizers. Extremely fresh. The chefs must be very well-connected with their suppliers. Then we veered sharply away from traditional Japanese cooking. I ordered something the server described as something between a ciopino, or boulliabaise … anyhow a seafood cauldron that would strike me as Mediteranean with some Japanese influences. Uuummm. I was in cold weather heaven. After nodding for a while in the direction of shortribs, my friend finally decided on fillet mignon. Again, not something I would think of as particularly Asian. I snagged a piece of his. Nice char on the outside, juicy on the inside; a beautiful cut of meat that hit all the right spots in my mouth. I almost grabbed it away from him. For dessert we shared a tres leches cake. Japanese? Not exactly. But again, the server was recommending, and since the restaurant is so new, we went with it. My friend loved it. Ate the larger share. I enjoyed the few bites I had, but was not wild about it. I will look for another dessert the next time I come. I will actually look for entirely new dishes the next time I come. I’m the sort who usually ignores the wait staff, opting for my own decisions. In this case his suggestions turned out quite well. He was excellent all-round; attentive, but not hovering. They have a full bar, but we did not drink with our meal. You’ll have to look for that info from future reviewers. I’m taking off one star for something that’s really impossible to adjust … it’s just the property dimensions. The room is crazy narrow with quite a bit of length. There’s supposed to be a private dining room with it’s own bar back there. I don’t know. I didn’t see it. I am very excited about an idea they are kicking around. They’re thinking of a late night happy hour. When that happens, they’ll be seeing a lot of me
