Yellow Cab Express

I thought 15 or 20 minutes would be reasonable to wait for a cab at 6 pm on a Thursday evening. Wrong! Three calls revealed they hadn’t even put in the order. It is not the driver’s fault if they don’t get the call… Just don’t count on them.

The driver and care were nice. But I had asked how much it will cost from my place to SFO and they said 65 to 70. There was no traffic the price was 85. They totally lied about how much it will cost.

We used their sister company Budget Friendly Transportation to get from Oakland Airport to our home in Oakland last week. Booked the service the day before. The plane landed 30min early, when I turned on my phone, I already had two voicemails from the driver. The first one informed me that the driver was heading to the airport and the second said that the driver is already waiting outside of the baggage claim. He called me again as I was leaving the plane to confirm everything. We picked up our checked bags, got into the car right outside of the door and headed home. Great price also, by far the best experience getting back from the airport ever.

Left my phone in the back seat. Got in touch with the cab driver. The cab driver wouldn’t give it back to me even through I said if met him anywhere he wanted… Had to give him $ 20 as a ransom to get my phone back. Terrible terrible company. I am reporting to Better Business Bureau.

Yellow Can Express has never picked me up on time once. Also, often times the cab drivers are a bit rude. I stopped calling them and started using Marwan Cab Services, who are much kinder and more professional.

The drivers are friendly, but they have no idea where anything is and expect you to tell them how to get there. This may be fine if you are from Berkeley, but if you are just visiting like me, this is frustrating. At least they have shown up more or less on time, unlike other services I have tried to use.

Worst cab service ever! My driver was an absolute crook!
I was at a party at my friend’s house last night in Oakland near the MacArthur Bart. It was late at night, and even though the house is only half a mile from the Bart station, it’s not safe to walk by yourself at night through the neighborhood. Not wanting to get mugged, I called a cab for what should have been a simple trip.
Things started out okay. The driver showed up in exactly 15 minutes (as stipulated by the dispatcher over the phone). That was the last good thing that happened though.
The driver must have thought I was drunk, and he tried all sorts of stalling techniques to drive up the fare. First, he pretended to be entering the location of the Bart into his GPS. After playing with it for over a minute, he put it back on the dashboard. I could see that he hadn’t entered anything and the GPS was still on the home screen.
The route to the Bart should have been simple: head north, turn right, and you’re there. The driver decided to take «the scenic route» though which involved making several left turns. I tried to politely ask him to go the correct route, but he said, «No, this way is better.»
After beginning on his «better» route, the driver then surprised me by turning in the opposite direction of the Bart station. For a second, I thought I was being kidnapped! I had the start yelling at the driver that he was going the wrong way, and then he reluctantly turned around and started going the right way.
By the time we reached the Bart station, the fare had run up to $ 7. I handed him a $ 20 bill and waited for my change. He handed me back $ 10! After doing such a poor job, he still seemed to think his driving merited a 40% tip! I asked him for two more dollars back (since I’m a decent person and was still willing to give him a 14% tip), and he grumbled under his breath and tossed two more bills at me.
As I got out of the car, he proceeded to yell what I could only guess were profanities at me out the window. What a jerk!
I took a cab so I wouldn’t have to risk getting mugged, and I feel like I still got mugged anyway. I will not be using Yellow Cab Express ever again!

They provide the worst service in town. Their business is here in Berkeley, CA whereas the dispatchers are sitting in India, who literally have no idea about Berkeley.

Incompetent beyond belief, terrible dispatcher, I would highly recommend not using this service, ever.

This cab company is HORRIBLE. I would say even if you’re desperate, to always avoid them. They are rude, will cheat you, and take your money.
The other day I needed a cab from Berkeley to SF for work. They were on time, which was a plus, but when we got to the bay bridge toll, the driver didn’t have a fast track and asked me for $ 5, which I ended up giving him. I gave him a twenty, so it turn, he gave me 15 back.
When we ended up getting to my destination in SF, the meter came to about $ 40. I gave him a $ 50 bill expecting to get $ 10 back. He told me in a very belligerent way that I owed him $ 45 because of the toll, WHEN I GAVE IT TO HIM AT THE TOLL. So, he only gave me $ 5 back and REFUSED to give me the rest, knowing that I had given it to him at the toll. How can you look someone in the eye and just CHEAT THEM? Eventually, I just got out of the car and decided that I wasn’t going to argue with this ridiculous cab driver over FIVE DOLLARS. I will NEVER use this cab company again!
p. s. they refuse to drive you anywhere that’s close. If you’re coming from Downtown Berkeley bart and want a lift right up the street, they will REFUSE and tell you to ask the other cab drivers.
TO HELP YOURSELF, DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I booked a pick up online and received a confirmation back from them. This pick up was for my mother in law to get to the airport. She ended up calling me half an hour after after they were supposed to pick her up, saying they never showed. I called them and they said they had no record of the booking. The outright ineptitude of this company is astounding and caused her to almost miss her flight. Nick Singh (Owner) will hopefully be out of business soon, I know I will tell everyone I know that this company is garbage.

I have never had a cab experience as uncomfortable and disappointing as my experience on Yellow Cab Express this morning.
While on the way from downtown Berkeley to the Oakland airport, my driver completely missed the exit for the 880 and took me several miles on the 580 instead. When he realized his mistake, he got off the freeway, turned around, re-​entered, and then almost missed the exit again. To compensate for almost missing the exit, he made a last minute lane change over the curbed median onto the off ramp to transfer freeways.
Then to top it off, he refused to deduct the entirety of the extra amount off the fare. I used the fare calculator on the website to calculate the estimated cost so he could deduct the excess off (as this was his mistake), but he would only take $ 5 off. The operator I spoke to when I booked the cab estimated it would be $ 45, the fare calculator online said $ 49, he charged me $ 54.
I called the main office to file a complaint and rather than talking to me, they asked me to hand the phone to the driver, and then they hung up after speaking with him. He then turned around and said «they said I’m right.»
In the grand scheme of things, this is not a huge deal, but when it is tacked on to a dangerous drive, it was enough for me to write this report. I would never recommend this cab company to anyone. There are plenty of other cabs out there. Save yourself some trouble and take one of them.

I called and asked if they had a cab available. They told me they’d arrive in 10 minutes. I called them 15 minutes later because no one had shown up. They promised me a cab would pick me up in 5 minutes. Another 20 minutes went by so I called them again. No one answered this time. Don’t piss off potential customers by lying to them because they’ll never EVER become actual customers that way. STAY AWAY!

I have been a longtime customer of Yellow Cab Express in Berkeley (about 8 years). I can’t see well enough to drive so I rely on cabs heavily to get to work, doctors appointments, etc. I usually take a cab a few times a week and this company has always been my first choice. But they have gone WAY down hill. The other day I was on hold for 20 minutes just to try to reserve a cab! The next I called ahead to schedule a cab for a certain time. Once the time I had reserved it for came and went, I called them back. The dispatcher did not apologize but just said he would send a cab now. Knowing them it would take 20 more minutes for a cab to get to me and then I would be late for my appointment. I had already left 45 minutes to get to my appointment that is only 20 minutes away. Needless to say, I am switching to Veterans Cab now where teh drivers are actually friendly and reliable and the dispatcher doesn’t act like you are bothering them by calling to ask for a cab.
