Specialties

We provide skillful, individualized Tai Chi and Chi Kung instruction for students of all levels in a peaceful, supportive setting. Our traditional Yang style Tai Chi Chuan program includes all of the elements of traditional tai chi practice: one– and two-person hand and weapon forms; stretching; stance-training; meditation and push hands. Our Restorative program is designed to meet the needs of those with health or mobility concerns. We also offer a special more rigorous Stretching & Strengthening program. Chi Kung instruction is integrated into our tai chi programs, and includes the Eight Brocade, I Chuan, Eighteen Lohan and Snake Chi Kung exercises.

History

Established in 2001.

Our first class took place on 9÷12÷2001, the day after 9/11, and we settled into our first permanent location on Arlington Ave. in Kensington in February 2003. In the following years our programs expanded and developed, and we now number approximately 60 students. Some of our senior students are now mature practitioners and instructors in our tradition. We settled into our current beautiful new location on Colusa Ave. in Kensington in January 2010. We are grateful to be a part of our very special community, and look forward to gala 10-year anniversary celebrations this Summer and Fall.

Meet the Business Owner

Miriam M.

Business Owner

I was born and raised in California, the third of five children, and have completed degrees at Stanford University, the Graduate Theological Union, UC Berkeley and the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. As a young adult I lived for five years as a Benedictine nun and taught junior high and high school mathematics and science. I began tai chi practice in 1996 to support my recovery from a severe burn injury. I trained with three of Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong’s senior students and continue my training now at Grandmaster’s San Francisco studio. I am very grateful to be able to share my deep love for this ancient healing martial art. I am also psychologist in private practice. I work with individuals and couples, specializing in working with those who have experienced physical or relational trauma and with those living with the effects of serious or chronic illness. I am an avid gardener, a happy if not great cook, and love spending time with friends and alone in nature
