Description

Specialties

Our style is Cuong Nhu, which means «hard/soft» and is a blend of Shotokan Karate, Wing Chun, Vovinam, Aikido, Judo, Taiji, and boxing. We practice forms, basic techniques and self-defense, grapple, spar, break boards, and train with various weapons. Cuong Nhu is a discipline of the body, mind, and spirit.

We have a youth class for ages 11 and older, and have a wonderful adults class meeting Monday, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

History

Established in 1995.

Tuyê’t Tan (which means «snow melting» in Vietnamese) is a woman-run school, focusing on a holistic perspective on the martial arts. We want a great workout, to teach real effective self-defense skills, and to instill in our students confidence, self-control, and a non-defeatist attitude. We’re not a large commercial school — classes are taught by experienced black belts who take pride in the quality of training and the personalized attention given to our students. The senior instructors have been teaching martial artists for over 28 years.

Meet the Business Owner

Allyson A.

Business Owner

Master Allyson Appen, holds the rank of Rokudan, sixth degree black belt, with over 31 years training in Cuong Nhu. Complementing her Cuong Nhu expertise with six years of aikido and three years of judo, she is now concentrating on developing her skills in internal arts. Allyson stresses alignment and technique over strength, and believes in the power of a positive attitude — that and classes should be really fun. She served as president of the Cuong Nhu board of directors as well as for years as regional representative. Selected as «Martial Artist of the Year» in 2000 by the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists (PAWMA), Allyson has also served on the PAWMA board of directors.
