Description

Specialties

The Framer’s Workshop is a family run custom and do-it-yourself picture framing shop located in Berkeley, CA, serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1977. We specialize in fine custom framing, do-it-yourself framing, photo restoration and large format printing. We offer commercial onsite design, delivery, and installation for businesses, designers and volume residential clients. We welcome wholesale accounts for art consultation and framing services. We also offer ready-made frames with free DIY fitting at The Framer’s Outlet, a ready made frame shop directly connected to our main store.

History

Established in 1977.

In 1977 Kirstie Bennett, fresh out of UC Berkeley, rented an empty space under the Sather Gate Garage, hired a friend to help her build a do-it-yourself frame shop from the ground up, and on a «wing and a prayer,» opened the doors to over three decades of success. Her husband joined her in the business and they have been running the shop with a group of wonderful employees ever since. Now, when do-it-yourself frame shops have all but disappeared, The Framer’s Workshop is as busy as ever.

«Our customers come to us from all over the Bay Area,» Bennett says, «We offer them a place to design and complete their framing projects from start to finish. We do all the technical stuff — the cutting and joining — and we help them assemble their project on the spot.» The Framer’s Workshop not only offers generous work space, but it stocks more than 1200 frame moldings and offers a complete selection of conservation materials. Our motto is, «Satisfaction is a job well done.»

Meet the Business Owner

Kirstie B.

Business Owner

The business is owned by Kirstie Bennett & Jeff Goldberg. We manage our family business with a hands-on approach and work at the shop regularly. The quality of our work matters a lot to us, and along with our managers, we personally check every framed piece that leaves the shop. Framing is our life’s work.

We are also lucky to have a talented staff of 10 designers and framers who are well educated in art preservation and proper art handing.

Mike Wells, our graphics specialist and printer, has been with us since 1977. He works personally with each person who comes in for photo restoration or printing to assure that the customer gets exactly the result he or she wants. Like our lifetime framing workmanship guarantee, our printing work carries a satisfaction guarantee.
