Came here to grab a quick breakfast. Staff was friendly and there’s a lot of room to sit. I got a breakfast burrito with bacon, which was around $ 4.00. The size of it was smaller than what I expected, but I think I appreciated the fact that because it’s half the size of what a «normal» burrito is, I did not feel really gross and fat after eating it. It was pretty basic: some eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Though visually, it was not very appealing at all. I would be willing to come back and try a breakfast bagel, but I was also shocked that they did not sell bananas(or ran out when I came in).

I’ve been here twice. The first time they put cottage cheese instead of cream cheese on my bagel. Luckily, I really like cottage cheese so I didn’t mind TOO much. The second, and last, time the bagel was still raw and doughy and had way too much cream cheese; had to throw it away. I wouldn’t recommend this place as there are much better places nearby.

I can’t really justify giving more than 3 stars, but as a recently relocated New Yorker, I do appreciate the salad bar(though it’s definitely not a replacement for the deli steam tables that are so bad yet so good). I appreciate that they have juices, but they keep prices low by using the cheaper ingredients like carrots – no straight up green juice option. Most of the staff is friendly. Not going to let it impact the rating, but be warned that around lunch time this place gets SLAMMED with Berkeley High Kids and the line can get long.

I go here only because its close to my job. They are way overpriced grumpy and the older man is just mean. Not only that I got charged double twice be careful if he swipes card twice. Chances are you will be charged twice. When I told him he acted as though he did not understand I worked across street 30 yrs he knew exactly what I was explaining to him. My bank will make correction.

Fine, but nothing really special. Make sure to insist on extra cream cheese as well, since they’re pretty skimpy. Also, the«lox spread» has next to no lox in it. I’d give it two stars, except the hand-made juices are excellent.

This place has great food and all, BUT they never opened on time. Never. I’ve gone to this place 10 or so times before work. The sign says they open at 7. Someone is in the building around 7. Doors stay locked until 7:15 or 7:20. Even when they see someone outside trying to open the doors, they do not care to open up. Once you do get in there, it takes them 15 – 20 minutes to make the sandwich(because, you know, they aren’t quite ready to open). I’m fine waiting for some quality food. Just don’t say you open at 7 if you really don’t. I always tell myself I’m not even going to try again, but I always find myself back after a couple of weeks only to be let down.

i know that this place is overpriced, but it’s convenient and i used to come here all the time. i don’t work in the area anymore so i haven’t stopped by in a while. the food is ok, there are definitely plenty of cheaper and better options nearby. however i have to say that the cashier has always been very friendly and accomodating. i would probably give two stars for the food but the friendly cashier deserves another star.

I bought 3 slices if salami and the owner weighed the plate with the meat. I asked are you weighing the plate too. His response was that everybody charges for containers even Whole Foods. Lol big mistake I’m a former Whole Foods Prepared foods team leader and no they don’t charge and it illegal. I explained that to him and he told me next time bring my own plate. Seriously. California weights and measure * Check that items weighed in front of you either have no wrapping or container, or the scale makes allowance for it. When sold by weight, all items must be sold by NETWEIGHT; the wrap– ping or container should not be included. This also applies to packaged items, which must indi– cate net weight.

Right next to the YMCA, this place is fantastic when you’re in need of a quick bite before or after a workout or when you’re near downtown Berkeley BART. Haven’t been during lunch so no idea if it gets crowded then, but 11AM on a weekday there’s no line, food is tasty & quickly prepared, and the folks who work there friendly. Bonuses: Tons of seating. I’m impressed they keep the place so clean when it’s such a large space! Will be back.

I’d be lost with Lox Stock. Best salad bar ever. Great cheap fresh juices, and nice service.

This place is great. Granted I haven’t tried to go at lunch hour but I usually go around 11:30 and in my experience they’ve been very quick. Highly recommend their classic lox bagel– it’s worth the $ 7.

I asked for an english muffin breakfast sandwich, and informed them I wanted the muffin toasted. When I got my sandwich, I immediately inspected it, and found that the muffin had only been warmed. i immediately told the person behind the counter that I wanted it fully toasted and her response was, and I quote, «I put it in the thing», pointing to the toaster oven. «This is not toasted» I replied. So she made the sandwich again, reheating it’s contents in the microwave, and lo and behold, gave me a sandwich with a warm, but not toasted muffin. Now I am not expecting people in a bagel shop to know how to make hollandaise, and I get that eggs are done in a microwave because they can’t trust the skill of low paid workers to make an egg over easy, but to not understand what the word toasted means? Really? That is completely unforgivable in my opinion, and I’ll never go back.

I’m a regular here, from the HS years to working next door. I come here when I’m craving a bagel(I always ask for extra cream cheese) or a small salad or random snacks. They are usually pretty generous with the bagel fixings but it really depends who you get. One of the ladies are super cheap and don’t give you much, and the guys always stack up my bagels nice And pretty. This is a great place to come by! Come early though bc by the end of the day, fresh bagels are mostly gone *sad face*

Pretty good bagels but a little on the pricey side. Their«salad/sandwich» bar is WAY too overpriced. I used to go here all the time when I went to Berkeley High in the mid 2000’s and even though I was a DAILY customer the man and woman behind the counter were ALWAYS rude and short with me. And I guess nothing has changed bc after a work out at the Y I went in for their«Californian»(sesame bagel, cream cheese, sprouts, guac) — the guy seemed really annoyed me(despite my happy demeanor from my workout adrenaline rush), the bagel somehow took over ten minutes to make even though I was one of like 4 people in there, and there was barely any cream cheese or guac on the bagel. Upon asking if they could maybe put a little more of each on they insisted it would be an extra 1.75– TOTAL bull. Needs new ownership BAD.

A nice quiet place to have a good sandwich, in this case I had ordered a pastrami. The service was friendly and quick. I will definitely go there again.

This place is close to my work and I come here when I am in the mood for a good spinach salad. They have a nice variety of items available at their salad bar: Steamed asparagus, chopped hard-boiled eggs, green beans, beets, red bell peppers, seafood salad, pasta salad, garbanzo beans, and more. Once in a while, I also get a cup of one of the two soups that are offered. The owners are friendly too. One suggestion: they should have bigger cups for their water pitchers. The cups are 2 oz. Dixie cups, like the type you would take medication with!

Best breakfast sandwich in Berkeley! Egg, sausage and cheese on an everything bagel. Perfectly toasted and prepared fresh when you order. You can also get it with smoked ham. There’s a great selection of bagels or you can get it on a toasted croissant. The smoothies are wonderful and they have the freshest fruit cup ever. Later for lunch you can build your own salad or sandwich. The nachos are friggin great. Good selection of sodas and coffee. They are closed on the weekends and there is a five dollar minimum if you use a credit card. Around lunch time, you have to compete with the high school kids(loud obnoxious teenagers). The owners are very nice and have been around for years.

I waited so long to try this place, but maybe the longish wait was a warning, an omen, some real-life foreshadowing. Look, I have nothing against businesses located next door to Social Security offices. I have very little against businesses which are inexplicably closed for a few months. I don’t have much against businesses that advertise their pending reopening by plastering the windows with redundant, desperate-looking landscape Microsoft Word-created signs – probably 24 of them in all. What I do have a problem with is bagel places that don’t have hummus. When I tried to get some on my bagel, the woman working the register actually seemed not to know what hummus was. Really? You’ve got the word«Bagel» in your business name, and not only do you not offer hummus, but you pretend as if you’ve never been asked for it? But here’s what I really hate: disgusting cream cheese. Again, if you’re a bagel place, you should do bagels well. Cream cheese should not be the consistency of – wait for it – watery hummus. It should be thicker. And clumpier. And creamier. It’s not called runny cheese. The only thing saving this place from one-star hell is that they have a by-the-ounce salad bar. I know these things are scams, but I really used to love the one in the Huddle at Notre Dame, and if you’re not going to do all-you-can-eat(and how could you if you’re not a huge chain), there’s not really a fair way of doing it. So two-star purgatory it is. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. And they have sandwiches, but I probably won’t be trying them.

I love bagels in all their high carb goodness, but when I order a bagel with cream cheese for $ 2.55 I don’t expect it to be drowning in 4 oz of cream cheese. The quality of the bagel is totally ruined when it is soaked and soggy. I’m willing to give this place another shot because their specialty bagels look delicious and the cashier gladly hurried my order along so I could catch my bus. Next time, I’ll make sure to lose the cream cheese.

I come here to grab their smoothies mainly because they’re on the way home from BART, and they’re dairy free. The mango one is usually the best, and the workers are really friendly. Which is a bit surprising because you think they’d be tired of dealing with the Berkeley High kids. I’ve had a bagel once or twice, and well, it was a bagel. I noticed today that they had a «California» bagel which is sesame seed bagel with cream cheese, avocado, and sprouts. Sounds delicious and I’ll have to try it next time. There is one thing that grosses me out though… They have a build your own sandwich bar with very plain looking lunch meats that you’d buy from the market. That’s not what grosses me out. What grosses me out is that the cheese and meats lie a salad bar type set up all day… so with the sun shining in it has a weird sheen on it and just looks warm and nasty. I’m positive I can make a way better sandwich at home.
