We are a small family run retail key store & complete locksmith service.

We provide quality service at a reasonable price. A price that will allow us to provide for the needs of the community as well as the needs of our staff. We believe in sustainability. We do our best to be efficient, effective, and low impact.

We specialize in automobile & motorcycle keys.

We carry a wide selection of keys, locks, transponder keys, remotes, remote head keys, key rings, etc. If we don’t have it in stock we can usually get it within a day or two, sometimes even the same day!

We are also very good at commercial and residential work.

Tom E. Appel CPL (ALOA Certified Professional Locksmith) has extensive experience with antique mortise locks, Baldwin, Schlage, Everest, Primus, Medeco, Keymark, Best, Adams Rite, Jackson, Yale, Von Duprin, AmSec Safes, Meilink, Sentry, Allied Gary, Major, as well as auto, motorcycle, truck, boat, & RV locks and keys.

History

Established in 1974.

Long’s Locksmiths was founded in 1974 by Jay Long. It has been built on a reputation of integrity. We strive to uphold that reputation as we improve the quality and scope of our services.

As we move forward into the twenty-​first Century we must embrace technology. Electronics have been a part of mainstream security since before our store was founded. During the last decade the store fell behind so we have a bit of catching up to do. Fortunately Tom E. Appel CPL (ALOA Certified Professional Locksmith) has extensive experience in many areas of modern security.

In 2007 we began offering several services that have been conspicuously missing for some time. We purchased new key machines and programmers to allow us to make keys for modern cars. We also began stocking transponder keys, factory remotes, and remote head keys.

We currently offer full service mobile locksmiths too!

Manager

Tom E. Appel CPL, ALOA Certified Professional Locksmith, has been working in the East Bay as a full time locksmith for over twenty five years. He grew up in Berkeley where he attended 8^th & 9^th grade at West Campus, just up the street. In 1984 he graduated from Berkeley High with honors. An opportunity at a local and well respected lock shop, Rex Key, led to a career that has prepared him to carry on the legacy of Jay Long, founder of Long’s Locksmiths.

Tom has attended numerous certification classes on virtually every facet of locksmith work and product sold and serviced by Long’s Locksmiths. Certifications available for review.

Tom is also a semi-​retired professional DJ & journeyman electrician. He has attended Laney College and DVC focusing primarily on business, marketing, and the study of music theory.
