I was disappointed to find The Ark, a toy store that featured quality toys and an excellent collection of books, gone. Jeffrey’s is not a store I will frequent. The merchandise is run-of-the-mill mediocre rather than creative and quality. I doubt this store can survive on Fourth Street.

I am so glad there is a new store in this place and particularly excited that it’s Jeffrey’s. They have a great hodge podge selection and always-interesting inventory. Jeffrey’s is definitely better stocked than its predecessor. I hope the community decides to support this independent store during the holidays.

Jeffrey’s Toys has opened a new toy store in Berkeley. Across the street from The Apple Store, a block away from Spengers. Same as the old Jeffrey’s in San Francisco, but smaller. Same family run business. The comic department will be the last department to fill. Everything looks great. Come visit us.

This store recently relocated from its spot on Market to take the place of the beloved Ark. The shelves are still filling up, and they have yet to get the feel for how neighborhood Berkeley families may have different buying patterns than passersby in SF. What I like so far: the aisle of musical instruments, nice selection of board games and puzzles upstairs, and the Folkmanis puppets. What I miss from the Ark: high-quality toys for babies, a train table, pretend play stuff for boys and girls(currently, dress-up clothes and other pretend play things were mostly for girls). I’m definitely going to return to support this local shop!
