Holistic Hound

The staff seem to be knowledgable and patiently answered all my questions about my new pup! I walked in not knowing what i wanted specifically, but the staff listened to my problems and gave me solutions. I also got a bunch of food samples to feed my pup!
My favorite part of the store is their selection of treats. As soon as you walk in, youre greeted with staff and you see the large variety of treats. They have bizzare things like duck hearts and kangaroo jerky. I always buy several goodies for my pup to try, and he loves them all.

My family and I only come to this place when it comes to our animals. Heidi (the owner) is so knowledgeable that she knows what the right product is if our dogs have an issue. She also recommends great treats when it comes to one of our dogs who is a very picky eater.
I would highly recommend coming here if you want someone who knows the items that they are selling and what is best for your animal. Other than our vet, I truly trust Heidi with anything.
Lastly, everyone that works there is welcoming and are always there if you need help. Even if you show up the first time they will come up to you and ask if you need any assistance. I usually go to other places and those that work there do not acknowledge you until you ask for the help. Here, totally the other way around. The staff will know when you need help and will help you until you are happy. Even if they do not have an item for you, they are totally willing to ship it and make sure you walk out of their store happy.

I love when I go in to a business and get exactly what I need.
My cat is calmer and the first night he was so relaxed that he was able to sleep through the night. After sleepless nights for both of us due to an annoying cat outside the window, this was instant relief!

This is an amazing pet store!!! My puppy is having stomach issues and a vet recommended going to Holistic Hound for a raw food diet. When I got there, the workers were very kind and willing to help. Being new to puppy raw diets, I naturally had a million questions. Nonetheless, they spent over half an hour (while the store was busy!) showing me different options and helping me make good food choices for my pooch. They also kept my budget in mind and provided me with free samples. They obviously love what they’re doing and are a true model of excellent customer service. I’ll definitely go back!!!

Terrence at Holistic Hound took the time to listen to me and talk about the health problems my senior chihuahua was experiencing. Many of the health issues were longstanding. So many people told us that because my dog is a senior, we should just accept her health challenges as normal. I had a feeling that it wasn’t the case, and an answer to her problems could still be found. Terrence at Holistic Hound recommended I switch her to an all raw diet. I am so glad I did! She is now thriving and the best I have ever seen her! Her various issues cleared up within 3 — 7 days, and she hasn’t had any problems since. Zero. She has become a new dog and was transformed by only a switch in diet. (Please keep in mind that her food was Very high-​quality before, — it just wasn’t raw, it was cooked.)

This place has everything I ever want. The staff is awesome and always helpful.

Absolutely the best pet store in Berkeley! Heidi, the owner who is also a homeopath, is a gem who is ALWAYS ready to talk to you in great depth about any issues you are having with your animal and what products they have that may help. She helped and supported me through the long illness of my senior dog (including giving me many free samples of food & treats from the store when she was dying and wouldn’t eat) and is helping me deal with the allergies of my new dog. Nothing is ever pushed, but everything you could possibly want for your pampered dog or cat is available. When you come in the door there is always a friendly smile, and a staff member approaching you to see if you have any questions (which you will have, since their selection is so fabulous). And the prices are actually quite reasonable! Did I mention the amazing animal health seminars with luminary vets, nutritionists, and other local providers? Run, don’t walk to Holistic Hound if you want the very best for your pet!

we never really come by here but when we do we are pretty impressed. they have some really funny dog tis that i always want to buy for my hound (not holistic). the people who work here are very kind and generous.

When my husband and I first moved to Berkeley, we went to Holistic Hound for the first time to see what they had. The gal who helped us was very knowledgeable about canine nutrition and she was very personable. They offer so many high-​quality dog foods and treats. I really like their large supply of raw bones, which are excellent for dog’s teeth. They have the best dog «cookie» bar, with so many options from bully sticks to pigs ears. I also really appreciate that they are a locally-​owned store with a lot of American-​made products!
When I bring dogs I am walking into the store for fun, the dogs always get a warm welcome and a nice treat :) Another great thing is that if you are not sure about what kind of dog food you want, they have free samples for you to take to try out with your pup before buying a large bag.

I came across this store for the first time today and I don’t think I’ll be back. Although they had a very nice selection, the nasty way in which the boss barked at (no pun intended) and demeaned her employees made my friend and I very uncomfortable.

They also have a small but good selection of items (food, toys and supplies) for cats. The staff is very friendly.

Was referred to Holistic Hound by our (much beloved) vet, Creature Comfort, and it was 100% worth the trip over to Berkeley. They carry the most extensive variety of all natural pet care products and treats I’ve ever seen in one place — and they are the best of the best.
As the dog-​mom of an animal with pretty severe food allergies, I was extremely grateful for their helpful guidance. It’s so clear they care deeply for animals.

I really love this place!!! If I could give it 10 stars I would. I never knew it existed until I needed some milk thistle for my dog. I called creature comforts in oakland to see if I could get it from them since I had my dog there before. They recommended Holistic hound (As I would have to make an office visit to get it from them). I read the Unilocal reviews as i live in Dublin and didn’t want to make the long trek down there. The Unilocal reviews are helpful to a point but I always like to see for myself. I called before I went down and talk to a really nice man (sorry, Im really bad with Names) that answered all my questions and was very helpful. I was really excited to go down there. To find holistic products for your animals is very hard (ordering on line you never know what your getting). I got to the store I was greeted by the man I talked to on the phone. He remembered talking to me (it was hours later when I got to the store) took me right over to the products we talked about. I also asked about a few other things that he was very helpful with. The store was busy with lots of people and their fur babies, but all the staff (2 ladies and the man that helped me) were very attentive to everyone. I bought a bunch of things while there Bowls, treats and the holistic herbs I needed. I love the store and all the cool things they have in there and the friendly Very knowledgeable staff. This was on 12÷20÷14. Today I called down to ask about digestive enzymes, as the place I usually get them is out of stock. The owner Heidi answered the phone (What A great lady) she was so helpful in getting what I needed and very Knowledgeable about the product I was asking about. She is on the same page I am about health and animals (I love it). It is very rare to find people that think the same way I do about nutrition for pets. Im a raw feeder (Very taboo still). So to find this little gem of a place is amazing. Thank you Heidi and your wonderful staff!!!

Really great customer service from a very smart and clearly happy blonde woman with big earrings who worked there. I appreciate good customer service and happy employees, it seems like this company cares about and inspires their staff.

Finally got what everyone else is complaining about on here after a recent visit. I love their selection of products and the owner Heidi’s knowledge. However, the staff are not always the friendliest.

This shop was so cute and there was a sweet little dog in there just hanging out.
They had a great variety of natural dog treats which I love getting for my pup so I was excited to see this. I left with a lamb ear, a kneecap (not sure from what, a cow maybe?), tripe twist, and some biscuit type treats. My dog is a strong chewer and demolished the lamb ear in about 10 minutes.
Didn’t look at much else besides the treats, but they have food, medicine, accessories like leashes, beds etc. Based on the prices and availability of food, leashes, beds etc, I’d stick to just treats at this shop. You can get the other stuff practically anywhere for a better price. But I like to step it up when it comes to specialty food and treats. This is your place.
The staff was okay. One lady approached me and asked if I needed help deciding on treats which was great. The other two just kind of stood around and talked – they weren’t rude or anything, but definitely not approachable or friendly.
When I’m in the area, I’ll definitely stop by for treats.

While this store has some novelty items such as cool collars/​leashes for pets, in general, it’s extremely over priced and you could find most of these things either online or at a normal pet store.
In addition, they seem to have a lot of people who rotate through just generally helping around the store — NONE of which seem knowledgeable and ALL of which try to push things on you.
In general, I’d save yourself the overpriced time and effort and go somewhere affordable, unless you really are literally looking for flower essence to put in your dogs water to help it with it’s aura. (no joke).

I definitely want a dog when I grow up. But in the meantime, hanging around Holistic Hound is great research into exactly what sort of dog I’d partner with. The dogs who shop at Holistic Hound are absolutely gorgeous and well-​mannered, smart and friendly.
Oh, and Holistic Hound carries a wonderful inventory of food, collars, and toys for my cats. (Please don’t tell them about my wanting a dog.)

I’m a fast shopper. Ask anyone who goes with me. I never try anything on; I just browse, grab, and go. However, I can spend an eternity in here. I love shopping for my 3 furbabies. They have such awesome stuff– I found chicken necks, duck feet, and a bunch of freeze dried food brands I’ve never seen in any other stores.
The people who work there/​own the store are always really helpful and even wanted to give us some samples. We didn’t take any since we were going to be driving back down to SoCal. The owner asked us where we shopped down here and looked up some awesome recommendations for us. I knew this place was going to be completely awesome when I found fleabusters here :).

Before giving in to my cupcake craving, I had Dolce to consider. I knew of Holistic Hound; however, The Mother preferred to shop at the commercial pet stores. Keywords: Commercial. Pet. Stores. Okay, whatever. I have ventured in once or twice just to look around before cupcake runs. Lots of pet food, supplies, and accessories. Must come back for another longer visit instead of in-​and-​out.
I came in to get a few treats for Dolce. I got her chicken jerky and two apple oatmeal crisps. When paying for them at the till, I was asked if I wanted to get on the mailing list. Okay, where do I sign up. Oh, just give the email address. Good, green and progressive.
I inquired about the mascot on the marquee. Yes, Pearl was still with us. It was her day off. There is another mascot named Geraldine. I forgot what breed Geraldine is. (I think she is a sheltie.)
Dogs are allowed to visit, though they have to be on leash. I hope to bring Dolce in one of these days. If Pearl and/​or Geraldine are in there, I hope Dolce recognizes that this is their turf and she is a visitor.
I will definitely be back for Dolce’s treats for sure here at Holistic Hound.
