Alexander Kat Furniture & Hardwood Flooring

We had looked at many furniture stores in the area to please my wife, who has a very elegant taste, in furnishing our newly purchased home in Berkeley. We finally found Alexander Kat. The owners were right upfront to greed us but left us free without any pressure to leisurely roam around their huge store and look through their beautiful selection of exciting items on the floor. We bought everything we needed in one stop and with the best prices we could not imagine. We recommend this store highly.

We were looking for classic looking drawer. They had a lot of options. Their collection of rustic s are beautiful.

They are a family owned store, and they have lived in the northgate community since 1970! That makes me want to support them hat much more! (: Good people. Great furniture! UNBEATABLE PRICES! They price match anything you bring them, I love it! I just moved so I had to re-​order all of my furniture that I left back home. Alexander KAT’s attentiveness and customer service was amazing, the made it so easy with their catalogs and fast deliveries! I have ordered several pieces from them that I absolutely love. Their solid wood pieces are amazing, and go check out their imported trunk’s, and chest’s from India and Africa! The wife (Flora) is so lovely and very helpful, and her husband (Alex), is the very personable and knowledge about his business. Flora has been single handedly running their stores in multiple locations since 1990. I will definitely be going back for more along the years.

READ NO FURTHER!!! Stay away! Very rude and thinks she’s better than you, not to mention she talks down to you. I was looking to spend some money since I just purchased a new home, but I’m happy to spend my money elsewhere!

I was looking for an oval wood table and Alexander Kat showed me just the one I wanted in a catalog. They promised it by the end of February but called 3 weeks early to say it was already here. They delivered it today. I was impressed that the owner offered to lend us a table in the interim if need be. We didn’t need to do that but I thought that was very generous on their part. It was a pleasure doing business with them.

My experience with Alexander Kat Furniture has been nothing short of amazing customer service and quality products at great prices. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpful, and helped us find exactly what we were looking for. My wife and I came in and looked through some catalogs and checked out the stuff on the floor, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. We will definitely be back the next time we need anything :-) The negative reviews are almost laughable after experiencing the actual store, rather than the one some of these people portrayed… My advice: check the store out and use your own judgment. I’m glad I did.

So I just went into the store (which is a crowded mess, by the way). Very few pieces are actually marked. I was curious at a cute little country kitchen table. The guy there said it was on sale for $ 1180, but he’d sell it to me for $ 980. I said I’d wait and get back to him… the exact same table on Alexander’s website is $ 699. These people will rip you off. Horrible, just horrible.

So I basically had the exact same experience as every other reviewer on here with Alexander Kat’s customer service/​delivery. My mom bought me a cute two-​person kitchen table here for my birthday and it was supposed to be delivered a week later to my apartment in San Francisco.
The day it was scheduled to be delivered they no called/​no showed, and I spent most of my day waiting for them. They called another day saying they were going to deliver the table and I was not able to wait at my apartment for them that time so i told them it wasnt possible and they actually got frustrated with me that time (which is obviously a little outrageous). Finally they delivered it a couple days later, and when they got there it was just a dude in a mini-​van.
My boyfriend had to help him; quite frankly if he hadn’t been there I dont know how that table would have gotten up to my apartment with just that one guy, it was very heavy. Also one of the feet on the table was broken. it was an easy fix, it just had to be glued, but seriously… this is supposed to be a business. run by professionals. I hate writing negative reviews, this is actually my first, but this experience was just too bad to let it fly.
I should note that this happened a while ago, over a year ago now, so they definitely might have improved, this was just my experience.

Horrible customer service. I have been promised several different delivery dates and I am still waiting for my furniture. Each time I call another promised is made and broken. Stay away.

Well, it’s coming up to the three week mark on us placing our order, and I wonder if our bed is really in our destiny. (considering when we ordered it was going to be delivered that week or the next)
Husband popped in at the two week mark to check, and the owner assured him that the bed would be here within the week. A couple of days later (Monday or Tuesday) hubby got a call saying bed had arrived and asking if we’re coming to pick it up. Since we’d specified delivery we were a little baffled by this. Owner said he’ll call to arrange delivery. It’s now Thursday and we haven’t heard anything yet… Starting to feel somewhat disappointed. And I haven’t even got to write about the bed itself yet!

Love their furniture. The owners are polite and friendly as well as helpful. They have good prices along with good quality furniture. Department stores are overpriced. We have actually bought several pieces from them and we continue to go back to them for more furniture.

0 stars. This business needs to hire a person to own the customer experience (from scheduling deliveries, to providing updates, etc). If I didn’t call the store repeatedly I’m sure none of our furniture would have been delivered… ever. As another reviewer mentioned, they promise a delivery date, but then never show-​up, nor do they call. When they promise a delivery date they only provide a date – no timeframe at all.
Even if I could look past the 10+ plus calls I had to make to the store, and the lead time that was promised to be 3 days and became three weeks, I still wouldn’t go back. The owners were never apologetic, and when we ultimately picked up our remaining furniture at the store ourselves the woman was downright rude.
This has been a real bummer because we really liked the stuff in this store.

Good prices for poor quality and awful customer service.
I ordered quite a bit of furniture from them. It was delivered 3 weeks late. Even worse is that not once did they call to tell me it was late. They would give me a date and then never show. I’d call, they gave me a new delivery date and never show again. The owner was very kind when I ordered in the store, but after was extremely rude. Two of the pieces i received have minor damage and I’m still missing a piece that I ordered and am trying to contact him to either get it or get refunded.
Avoid this place at all costs. It’s worth the extra $ 50 another company will charge to avoid this customer service nightmare!

Alexander Kat has some very high quality furniture at fair prices for the material quality. The selection ranges from CD towers to large dining room tables and includes couches, end tables, and all kind of other standard stuff, but all well made. There’s a distinctive Mediteranean feel, though they also have some contemporary selections. But I selected three stars because there were two staff members there, one who just read a paper or magazine (couldn’t tell which) the whole time and another who asked if I needed anything when I strayed near the register. In short, not superb service.

Ordered furniture beginning of December, was promised delivery in less than two weeks if I pay cash. So, I did, but it was delivered in over three weeks and even as incomplete set. It took over a month with endless phone calls and coming back over and over until finally received last missing piece. Unbelievably terrible service! Quality of the furniture is low as well. Looks good, particularly on pictures, but in less than two weeks of normal use pillows started to fall apart and sagging couch required placing piece of plywood inside, so you can actually sit on it. I guess that is a price for been cheap, not worth it for sure. I learned my lesson; hope other people will not repeat my mistake.
