I have loved this place for years, but I am worried about the cleanliness of the place. They don’t wear gloves and they’re touching money all of the time. I love it but I think I will have to find a new place.

They have the best bagels around. Not the best spreads. Not the cleanest establishment. Not the best prices. Not the best service. But yes, the BEST bagels. The owners are actually rather gross and dirty. I stopped coming here because after about 300 visits I finally had enough with them never ever ever washing their hands and touching money then touching bagels then touching money and so on. It’s a real shame cause the bagels are awesome.

It’s no NY deli, but if you want a decent breakfast to go in the Bensalem/Philadelphia area, this may be your best spot. I got a sausage, egg and cheese on an everything bagel and it was delicious. I think they dip the sausage in gravy after the cook it because it was coated in white and it was delicious. The only other thing we got from here was an everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese and there were no complaints there either. The place isn’t fashionable by any means and its in the middle of nowhere. Plenty of parking is available.

Stopped in recent to get sausage, egg and cheese on everything Bagel with a cup of coffee. That’s about all they sell when it comes to breakfast sandwiches unless u want a Hoagie. The Breakfast sandwich was good. Was impressed. I do wish they Atleast sold hashbrowns to go with sandwich. Coffee was OK. If i was ever in the area again. I would definitely stop by for a bite to eat.

It is a testament to the American melting pot that bagels have become an American dish sold by people from the Middle East who have no cultural connection to the ethnic source. A & S Bagel sits in a nondescript commercial strip at the bottom of Galloway Road. It is clean and bright, even if uninspired in its décor, with yellow walls and lights, and white booths along one side. The workers/owners are friendly enough and know how to slice and spread efficiently. They don’t have the broadest selection of bagels, but they are made in the back of the shop and are certainly fresh. My Onion Bagel, Butter and Swiss was ordered and delivered to my table within 5 minutes. This being a Boar’s Head operation, the option on the cheese was eliminated in favor of only their own brand; always a disappointment as the taste and texture of the Swiss is not as good as Finlandia, Jarlesburg, or other Euro-based names. The only major issue with the bagel was that it lacked a crusty skin, and had a weak yeast taste. It was more like sourdough loaf in the shape of a bagel, and not the authentic crunchy outside and airy inside that notes a proper bagel. Still, it was quite big, and obviously satisfying to many. I suggest a visit to Bagel Train in Yardley if they aspire to a closer approximation of the real McCoy.

Yes, a good bagel place in Bensalem! I was heart broken to leave North Jersey, where my everything bagel got me through many broken hearts and sleepless nights. Then I moved to Trenton, and after a few attempts found a replacement… so naturally when I moved again, I was not looking forward to starting the search from scratch. But thankfully this was a hit from first bite! This bagel place is very unassumingly located in a small plaza, and when you walk inside it is even less appealing than the strip mall. It’s two middle aged, middle eastern guys cooking up some delcious carbs. Unlinke some other bagel places, there aren’t many fancy options, but all the ones you expect. I choose my usual: everything bagel, egg, cheese and pork roll. It was made quickly and I couldn’t wait to get a bite. I would’ve enjoyed a bit more pork roll, but it wasn’t cheap at all. Although this is a no frills place, there were a few things missing for me. Like there is no menu posted, so I have no idea what other types of sandwiches they make. They also didn’t have orange juice, which seems pretty basic for a place that sells breakfast. I personally would’ve loved an ice coffee option, but I know that’s being a bit pretentious… but I’m still speaking it to the world just in case. Overall, definitely returning and excited that the place is both affordable and delcious!

Everything tastes fresh here and not too greasy — great bagels and ingredients. Good to see a family business do well. Just make sure you are clear when ordering otherwise they get a little upset haha.

I was in the area last week and stopped in to get some bagels as I had lunch next door at Tako. I got a dozen bagel with the everything being my favorite but in the house onion and plain are also loved. I came home late after my meetings as saw Panera bagels in the table. My brother brought them not knowing I also bought bagels. They were so different from one another. I’ll just say this. We ended up tossing the Panera bagels. I also got orders from the family to pick up A&S bagels everytime I’m in the Bensalem area… I wanted to send a BIG Thank you to Neel for putting me onto this place and Tako. I never would have found these places off Street Road…

Came here for breakfast this morning since we were in the area and I was really craving a bagel. While I could have gone to a chain place, since it was closer to my destination, I decided to try a small business place. I love sampling something new. As another poster wrote, the place could use some love. When we first walked in, it kinda just looked like an extremely small deli counter with some booths to sit in to eat. There was 1 couple finishing up their meal by the time we got there and it wasn’t busy at all. I made eye contact with a man behind the counter and he acknowledged me and called me ma’am(I kinda smiled cause I’m only 25 and don’t consider myself a ma’am yet) but I asked him for a menu and stated it was my first time here and he handed me one of only 2 – 3 laminated paper menus he had on top of the deli case. I chose a cinnamon and raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese for my 2 year old and a sausage egg and cheese on an onion bagel for myself. While I read other reviews before coming here, I too was able to witness the men behind the counter use their bare hands to touch the food,… But that is almost any restaurant you go to. They did however handle my money upon leaving and go right back to the food… :-/that I was a little turned off by… It would have been nice to see him wash his hands. While we were there, the men were nice and never rude. There was an old man in one of the booths in the back of the establishment that was watching my daughter and another baby chatter and play, and actually came over with cookies in a bag and gave them to me to give to my daughter ‘after she finished eating’ he said :). Based on his accent, I am assuming he is either family or friend of the men behind the counter, because they all had the same accent and the men behind the counter spoke a language I couldn’t identify. Upon paying and getting ready to leave, the man who took my money grabbed a peanut chew bar and gave it to my daughter for free. Our meal was the sandwich, my daughters bagel, and an everfresh orange juice for 9 something. Not that bad for breakfast. And hospitality was pleasant. My only REAL complaint is that the 3 booths I saw were all dirty with crumbs or spilt dry coffee on the table tops… No one seemed to notice the problem though so I just wiped ours down with a dry napkin and sat on the side with no spilt coffee.

I don’t get the hype, to be honest. I use to patron a&s weekly when I was pregnant and needed my bagel sandwich fix, back when it was near Acme. The one gentleman who worked there was so friendly and the other a bit grumpy, but the food was yummy most importantly. My parents live near the new location and I had been meaning to go in and be all nostalgic and think back to my love for this place during the prego days. Holy bad experience. I was so disappointed. I don’t know about you but customer service is a big deal. I go places like this instead of wawa so I can have a custom made sandwich and not some strategically layered and box processed junk. But everything we asked, we got a hasty«no!!». Like can I have tomatoes to sub chips? No! Can you break up the yolk in the egg sandwich? No! Egg whites? Absolutely not. He was in such a rush, keep in mind there was no one else in line but us, and so mean, i could only hang on to the fact that it’d be worth it when I got to bite into the long missed bagel sandwiches. I channeled Jerry Seinfeld and the whole soup nazi thing. After paying for the food, him handling money and not using gloves to handle the food which is kinda yucky I think, we went to my parents house, treats in hand. «I brought a&s!!» And after all of that… It was okay. Genuinely, ok. Worth dealing with one of the rudest restaurant workers I’ve everrr encountered? Definitely not.

I’ve been eating at Bagelocity for a couple months. I treat myself to a bagel at least once a week. We decided to mix things up. The bagel itself was fresher than bagelocity, as they make them fresh, and you get them within a very short time-frame of being baked. Compared to Bagelocity where they buy them from the Redhouse, and you are eating bagels that were bought in bulk… So they feel a little less fresh. The cream cheese was also better, as they put it on out of a small tub, rather than the 10 gallon bucket bagelocity uses. They also don’t scoop the cream cheese back in… That always grosses me out. So why did I give this place 3 stars if I liked so much of it better? Well, the everything bagel, while being more fresh, and the cream cheese being better. The everything bagel lacked flavor. They put no salt on it, the garlic is very very minor. I couldn’t even notice it until I saw a flake that had fell off. All that it really is poppy seeds. If they can put some more seasoning I will definitly put this place ahead of bagelocity. As it stands the bagel could use some more flavor. If you’re coming here for a plain bagel, i’d wager this is a better place than bagelocity. Plain bagels just aren’t my cup of tea though.

Pretty great bagels Northeast of the city! I wouldn’t say they’re better than South Philly Style Bagels(aka the hot Bagels place just off South St) but they’re much better than Manhattan Bagels, which seems to be the only other option in these parts. I picked up a dozen bagels and a tub of regular cream cheese for my co-workers, and treated myself to a bagel with lox sandwich for breakfast. The lox was good and I couldn’t have been much happier(capers would have been a nice addition). Total for all this was around $ 24, which isn’t half bad. The store could use a little love. The cold case in the front had some sketchy dripping areas with pans to catch the water.

Their bagels are OMG good. Like… SO good. I can’t even explain how good they are. The service is fair at best(think Soup nazi) but so what, who cares… I go for the bagels not cuddles.

I’m lucky enough to live right across the street from A&S Bagel and it’s one of my favorite indulgences. I like to bring friends here who come to visit on a Saturday or Sunday morning after drinking. The everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese is absolutely delicious. It’s not the fanciest bagel place but I like it. My boyfriend probably goes there for lunch once a week and he says all of the sandwiches are great too. The girl behind the counter(I think it’s the daughter) is pretty rude but it won’t stop me from going.

A&S is a local favorite for very good reason. While the ignorant get their bagel fix from the big chains, those in the know head to A&S. It’s the only place you’re guaranteed to have a fresh bagel, because you can literally see them baking and boiling at the back of the store. The bagels themselves have the telltale boiled crust that gives way to a soft and hearty crumb. Although the flavor selection is more limited than the big boys, the simple flavors provided serve to enhance the bagel’s innate characteristics rather than distract. Also, they offer whipped cream cheeses, which add a pleasing texture to their products. Prices for bagel sandwiches are reasonable and they are generous with portions of lox, whitefish salad, and other staples. When in the mood for bagels, look no further than A&S. Leave the chains for the amateurs. Cash only.
