A Honey Do List Handyman

We will hire this company again. They are friendly, prompt, and meticulous and do jobs of all sizes. They’ve done a variety of tasks for us: installation of 18 base and wall cabinets and counter tops and peg board in the garage, they bought a ladder for us and delivered it, they’ve come out just to change light bulbs on high ceilings, install smoke detectors, a bronze door knocker, a pair of glass shelves in the bathroom, sawn and hauled away large lumber, installed strips of hooks and tool holders, straightened wardrobe doors, have shown up promptly and left everything tidy. And their fees are reasonable.

Skip and Michelle are awesome! I just moved with my family to a new house in Belmont. I took a few days off work to deal with the move, upacking, and coordination of service people. There was a fair deal of general contract work I wanted to get done before going back to work — including installing shelves and cabinets in my kids’ rooms, painting a room, installing a guard rail on the stairs in the garage, and a few other odds and ends. After a brief search on Google and Unilocal,I called HoneyDo. I’m glad I did!
They were responsive and attentive. Skip and an assistant worked quickly, and the job was impeccable. The entire team was very knowledgeable and friendly. Great value for what I got as well. I will definitely use their services again when the need arises in the future, and plan to recommend them to all my friends!

Skip and his crew at A Honey Do List Handyman are fantastic. Since 2007, I have always felt confident every time I refer him to clients. Don’t let the name fool you… he is a licensed contractor that can do anything and everything. Skip is trustworthy, affordable, and a workhorse. He assisted my family after a pipe broke under our San Carlos home. He repaired the worst of the damage above and beyond our satisfaction, also was the most affordable quote we received. He has assisted many of my clients prepare their homes for sale too. Skip can do it all and is the best!

Quick service – came out same day. I had a bad week where different things had problems each day – they were able to come out quickly each time and help. They also educated me about some of my appliances and how to maintain them – things I never knew that will save me from replacing things unnecessarily. The handymen sent out were very polite and professional. I will definitely use them again!!!

Just before moving into our new home we wanted to take off the pop ceiling+paint+texture and also install recess lights. Once the job was assigned, for the first two days only 2 people showed up to work. Because of this they had to speed up and then eventually overcharged by almost 35−40% just because they had to make their workers do overtime to meet the deadline (there was also a minor change in scope which shouldn’t have impacted the timeline had they started with more folks on Day 1 itself).
It’s a family run business but unfortunately none of them agree or communicate well enough with each other and thus the customer bears the brunt. Example of this was: the job was not completed on the last day and no one followed up for 5 days and all of sudden I see an invoice for completed work! When I spoke to Michelle (front desk manager), she said Eric (onsite coordinator) did not communicate that all this was pending. But Eric says that Michelle knew about it but still did not contact. You leave texture all over the crown moldings, all switch outlets exposed and misplace the fire alarm and don’t bother to wrap up or even follow up? Eric says he never agreed (to Skip — estimator) in the first place to complete the work within the time Skip promised me. There is just a plethora of confusions, communication gaps and disagreements here that we as customer have to navigate through.
It’s been over 3 months since and
A.They have still not completed the work. I had to install the switch plates to prevent mishap. The installed switches are all misaligned so the plates don’t fit correctly.
B.The work that was done is coming off already. The ceiling paint is already peeling off in places.
C.They refuse to provide justification on the additional charges.
They say it’s a family business but the owner Skip, apart from giving the initial estimate, has been elusive and not reachable even after multiple attempts. All this for the pride of having a family business?
I really don’t see any positives that I would remotely want to recommend them.

As you can tell by now. The reviews are mixed and that sums up our experience. If you want to hire them to do a simple project they are probably perfect but beware if your project is bigger. We hired them to do a whole house remodeling — kitchen, baths, living areas. Skip came to estimate the work. They gave us the lowest bid out of the three however it turns out they weren’t that cheap when all was said and done (I knew there was going to be trade-​offs!). Michelle was darling and I think it’s the reason why they get as much business as they do. We were on a tight timeline what we thought a month project turned out to be twice as long. There were days when they were not making much progress due to over-​commitment, and unskilled crew (they didn’t refer to the plan and often they mess up and have to re-​do, some guys are just inexperience, they only have two people including Erik the foremen who actually have common sense but they are not always on site.).
We had to plead with them to send more people and that was stressful.
At the end they delivered acceptable quality. The irony is «Honey Do» makes it sounds like Skip the licensed contract will fix anything, when in fact he only handles estimates. His crew did all the work.
Another annoying matter was in billing. We were given estimates for labor and materials. Certainly we understand we are to pay for materials but there were materials on our invoice which we didn’t recognize. How would we know the type of materials needed and if they even used them? Why weren’t they included in the estimates in the first place? (They were charging us for bigger items as well as nails, tapes etc.) Sure enough after questioning there were materials that weren’t ours, or ended up didn’t use which we asked them return. Michelle was very patient throughout the process. In the end these unforeseen materials charges and trip charges (to Home Depot, to paint store etc.) added up and they weren’t too far off from the all-​inclusive bid. Honey Do’s crew was rather messy, wasteful and disorganized.
Skip, Michelle, Erik and some members of the crew are super nice but when it comes down to business, they have some major cracks to fill!

We used A Honey Do List to remodel our 2,600 square foot house. We remodeled every room in the house, including doing large structural changes to the bottom floor. Skip, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. He arrived on time and quickly delivered a quote to us for the work. He was able to start within a few weeks of us signing the quote. He isn’t pushy and has some great ideas on how to save money. The foreman, Erik, was great as well. He is extremely personable and listens. His crew is great. They are hard workers. We were able to complete a huge remodel in 3 months — which is pretty unheard of. I highly recommend this team if you are doing anything to your house.

A one day project turned into a 6 day project. They promised two workers
only one showed up and had to wait 3 hours before the materials were delivered.
He did not do a good job with finishings. Did not seem to know what to do.
Skip and Michelle are as nice as can be but there seems to be a communication problem within the company.
I would not use them again.

I have put off doing something about my closet sliding doors for months. I regret this.
Victor from Honey Do List came and adjusted the wheels and they roll smoothly. I also appreciate the great help that I received from Michelle.

On time. Personable. Clean. Efficient. Exactly what was needed — and appreciated advice on a separate lock issue. Microwave installation at a third less than quoted anywhere else.

Two weeks later, called to schedule appointment; pleased that they could do work next day. Team (Victory & Mickey) arrived on time. I had prepped area by unpacking product and moving range, so they completed installation of my over-​range microwave in an hour.
Can’t see how anyone could ask for more. I’ll use again and again. Thanks much.

Skip and crew started off well on our kitchen remodel (Belmont, June 2013), with a reasonable estimate provided in a timely manner, efficient demolition stage, and lots of creative ideas to consider. After that, we ran into problems with the guys not showing up before 10 am most days, and how with quickly they packed up and left at the end of the day (I’d guess they worked about 5 hours a day, 10 to noon and 1 to 4). Then some days they wouldn’t show up at all, or only 1 guy would come when several had been promised. Turns out in retrospect they had too many jobs going on at the same time. Basically we were over-​promised and under-​delivered, repeatedly. We ended up terminating our agreement and finishing the work ourselves. I don’t like giving negative reviews, because Skip is a nice and creative guy but seems to have organizational challenges. I understand that contractors have to take on multiple jobs to make enough money, but the communication piece was badly missing from our experience. Our final invoice also had several errors in it (which were corrected after emails with Michelle) and was higher than we expected — again just because we hadn’t been getting updates as the work progressed (there were many unanticipated items to deal with, as is often the case). I heard he scaled back his crew and reduced the number of projects going on concurrently — if true, it would be worth trying to work with them.

Skip came to our house for a consultation on a number of things that needed some attention. He was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. I was told that I’d get a call to make an appointment to start work, and I never did. I called about 2 weeks after his visit, and I was told I’d be called back to set up a time for the work. Over a week later now, that call never came either. It’s pretty disappointing. Skip seemed like he’d be fun have work around the house.
Oh well… back to google.

Just completed remodeling my bathroom. I’m very happy with their work. When Skip first came to the house to look at the job, he had some great ideas I would have never thought of. His estimate was clear and thorough. Michele was a pleasure to work with during the whole process — answering all my questions, very responsive. I will definitely use them again for other projects around the house.

The thing about hiring anyone to come into your home and do something, whether it’s a small remodel or to fix something broken, is that you’re nervous. Will they show up on time? Will they finish the job? Will they be weird? :P
With Skip, you don’t have to worry about these issues. Skip is just about the nicest guy you’ll meet, and chatting with him as he did the job was a pleasure.
The job he did for us was to put some back splashes in the kitchen and some tiles around the fireplace. I must say, Skip was the ONLY handyman/​contractor who showed up when he said he would to give us an estimate. And our tiles have turned out beautifully. Anyone who’s come over has been impressed!
The major worry a lot of the time when you remodel is whether they will come back to finish the job — once we started working with Skip, we were confident that would not be a worry. He’s not a flake! If you’re looking for a guy with some integrity and some pride in how a job will turn out, he’s your man. We’re very happy with the job he did for us.

Watching HGTV and DIYNetwork does not make you handy so for those moments when you need some help, a handyman is a great thing to have! Our house needed a number of things done so we asked Honey Do to send us someone. Floyd came over and did an amazing job installing our dishwasher, changing a kitchen faucet, changing a hanging light fixture, and changing a bathroom light fixture. He was really knowledgeable and did great work. They charge hourly and have a one hour minimum. It was definitely a good deal compared to paying Lowe’s almost $ 200 to install the dishwasher alone. Floyd did all that work for less than $ 250. We will definitely be calling them up again to do some more work around the house.
