Impressive seafood, impressive service, impressive hospitality. Walking around Fells, I was craving seafood. Just walked in on a whim(incredibly rare as a diehard Unilocaler). The owner gave a warm«hello» as I walked in. The selection was daunting and I wasn’t sure what to order or even how. The owner chuckled and said they can make a sandwich out of anything. He showed me the soft-shell crab that they just got fresh. I got it as a sandwich. While I was eating, the owner even came from behind the counter and had a conversation with me. He has a passion for the business and making sure customers leave satisfied. People, come to Sal’s and get the soft-shell crab sandwich. In fact, get anything and everything as a sandwich, plate, etc. I’m making this location a permanent part of my weekend rotation.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch, and while the food was okay(decent but not great, the food had no salt on it so…), the customer service was horrible. We both ordered the Cajun catfish at $ 8 a plate. When we finished we went to pay and I handed the guy $ 20. He kept it and walked away to tend to other customers. Of course we’re like, that should’ve totaled around $ 16, where’s our change. And he claims that he gave us 2 pieces of fish and so that totals 9.50 each, while one piece of fish it would’ve been $ 7. We show him the menu, that it clearly says $ 8 with no distinction between the number of pieces of fish, and he pretty much ignores us and waves his hand for us to be on our way and goes back to the other customers. No receipt, no calculation, just willy nilly charging us what he felt like charging us after we dined in. We were polite, didn’t make a stink, but just walked away shocked, mainly because we were pressed for time and didn’t want to fight when its easier just not to come back. Needless to say, never again. It was really only $ 3 he stole from us, but that’s obviously what he thought us as repeat customers were worth. Which is sad. Coulda been a racial issue, don’t know, but it felt like he wasn’t particularly interested in us being customers compared to the other mostly white patrons who were there at the time. But yeah, never again.

My boyfriend and I planned a date night where we decided to grill some fish. My mom always tries to get fresh fish for this so I wanted to hit up a seafood market. I found Sal’s and went there because it had great reviews. Sal’s is right in Broadway Market down in Fells point so parking is limited or metered. I also got there about 15 minutes before they closed and they were still very kind about letting me get some whole fish. I got Red Snapper and Croaker and they were both gorgeous and a great size. The price was really good too(I told my mom and she was impressed). Because I came late they were no longer cleaning fish but I was fine with that since I have cleaned fish before and had no trouble with it at the house. The fish came out perfect. I stuffed it with an herb and garlic blend after cleaning wrapped it up in some aluminum foil and we grilled it. for about 5 minutes on each side. The fish was light and fluffy and my boyfriend who doesn’t eat fish very often said he was craving it the next day. My only complaint was that I wanted to know what kind of fish he had that came whole and he didn’t really have an answer for me which was unfortunate. I was familiar with both Red Snapper and Croaker so I asked if he had those. Next time I’ll ride my bike down and try to come on a Saturday so I have more time to decide and the fish is all on display. Apart from that I had a great experience at Sal’s; great fresh fish at a great price, I’ll definitely come back.

Amazing!!! Only been cooking food for less than a year since they moved from the market up the street. Local Rockfish sandwich was as fresh as possible. They literally took a fish from the ice display, filleted it behind the counter and cooked it up. I’ve never seen that before. The Ceviche was good, we actually got the last of the weekend batch which is unbelievable considering it was Saturday afternoon. it was Overall, great local fish and some flown in fish. Knowledgeable about the location of most fish as well. Definitely will return…

We ducked into Sal’s to avoid a downpour and decided to stay for a fried oyster sammich and fish tacos. Outstanding super fresh food here. Informal setting in seafood market. Friendly people making fresh food to order. Can’t beat it! Affordable authentic and fresh! Seafood market with takeout platters, sammiches, whole and filleted fish.

Came here because I was shopping in the area and smelled the aroma outside the fish market. When we entered the shop, the staff was very friendly and seated us. I ordered the seafood platter which came with fried fish, a crab cake, fried calamari, fried shrimp, seasoned fries and coleslaw. Everything was very fresh and delicious. My favorite was the fried fish and coleslaw. If you’re in the downtown area and in the mood for seafood I would definitely recommend this place!

Huge fan of Sal’s Seafood! This is a great place to get a nice piece of fish, prepared anyway you like it, some crunchy fries, or steamed veggies, or bowl of steamy soup. It might not win any awards for crab cakes(but seriously who wins those anyway), but everything here is made fresh to order and you can’t beat that. Dine in or take out, also a great place to buy raw fish to take home and cook on your own. Check it out, I can’t believe no one has reviewed this place yet!
