AAMCO Transmissions

My Fiancé and I are having an older model Chevy fixed to pass inspection, for her daughter to drive. We chose AAMCO because it’s close to home and I have seen familiar vehicles there before. We have also used them for a previous vehicle. We spent about $ 1,000, on the Chevy, not including the previous visit.
A couple days after it was completed I went to retrieve the car and it wouldn’t start. I left the key in the drop box with a note and my phone number. So, I called the next day. He told me that we needed the original key to start it. I then told him we’ve always used an aftermarket key, he told me I was wrong. He told me that there is a chip in the key and it will never start without that chip. After going back and forth, we ended the conversation. About 3 minutes later he called back and told me it must be the battery (he never apologized for telling me I was wrong). I went on to conduct my afternoon and went there personally a few hours later. When I showed up the car was in the same place it was in the night before. I walked in and talked to the manager, Joe. He alerted the technician who jumped it and it started. The technician told me that they’ve had to jump it before to move it around. I then asked the manager, Joe why they wouldn’t have told me that previously. Joe just told me «that doesn’t matter, that the fact it didn’t start before doesn’t matter». I said it matters to me and they should have told me. He argued with me, once again. As we began to go back and forth in person, my fiancé pulled up. He then gave 100% of his attention to her. However, she had all the same questions I did. Why didn’t they tell us? As it went the manager finally asked me to leave. I simply took a few steps to the other side of the vehicle. She ended the conversation and we left. Neither of us were happy.
Finally, we ended our pursuit to getting a passed inspection elsewhere. We went to another shop where we were referred to by AAMCO for other issues they don’t specialize in. It turns out that they, nor many of their customers fancy AAMCO either. They said several of their customers have complained about them as well.
It’s pretty safe to say I will not be returning. If you do, may the gear gods have mercy on you.

The mechanics are highly skilled. They don’t «find’ new things but do tell you if they notice something wrong and tell you the level urgency with the repair. Their prices are also the BEST prices around. I Highly recommend this establishment !!!

I’ve taken my car to AAMCO on Manchester Road, in Ballwin for years and would not consider going anywhere else. I highly recommend them to anyone.

They broke my engine, won’t repair or pay for it.
I drove my car into this AAMCO on Thursday night and dropped off the keys. They ran tests on it on Friday and said that I needed a transmission repair (and nothing regarding the engine). I came to pick up the car on Friday night and couldn’t start it. On Monday, they looked at it and told me that the engine was broken. They claimed it wasn’t their fault. but didn’t even bother to find out what was wrong with the engine. They haven’t offered to make it right and would only offer to pay a toll truck to drag it away.
