Top Drawer Thrift is the agency thrift store for Project Transitions, a local non-​profit that provides hospice and housing to people living with HIV/​AIDS in our community. Top Drawer receives donations year round from generous local donors. If you would like to donate, call the store at: 512.454.5161.

History

Established in 1993.

Top Drawer Thrift was started in 1993 to help raise money to start Project Transitions’ housing programs. All proceeds from the sale of donated merchandise benefit Project Transitions’ programs and services. In addition, Top Drawer serves the HIV/​AIDS Community through the provision of store vouchers distributed through area HIV service agencies.

Top Drawer is a previous recipient of the Ausin Chronicle’s award for Best Thrift Store.

Top Drawer is on my Top 3 List of best vintage/​thrift shops in Austin (Room Service and Blue Velvet are the other 2). If there is one thing I love most about this place is the pricing! You can find everything from old to newish items for about a fifth of the price compared to what you would pay at any other vintage thrift shop. What’s even better is that at the end of the month they run crazy specials on their color tagged items.
The staff here is always helpful and the layout of the store is really nice. One side is clothing, the other is home interior and various home items (even furniture) and they have an art gallery section that’s always changing.
Since their prices are so low their inventory is always changing so I highly recommend you dropping by often to see what’s new.
I love this shop. I never walk about empty handed!

Stopped by here the other day for a short visit looking some kids clothing. Fail. They don’t have kids clothing. But they do have a nice collection of mens and womenswear as well as some outstanding home and holiday décor, glassware, and unique, vintage stuff. It is a small space and it won’t take you long to browse around. Things are organized well. I spotted some super cute salad plates, port and other specialty glasses, and a vintage burgundy leather jacket ($ 22). I hoped against hope that the jacket would fit me but my shoulders were too big for it (darn that 50s and 60s sizing). So I left without buying anything this time, but I won’t hesitate to return some day.

I usually find something great every time I make a trip here. The clothes are all in very good condition, unlike those at certain other thrift stores where I’ve seen missing buttons and stains. The furniture in particular is my favorite, it’s always in good condition and the prices are fair. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful.

A lil gem thrift shop. I’ve been here a bazillion times, & love it. It’s a smaller thrift shop, with lots of hidden treasures. They also have a nice end of the month sale, & sales on certain colored tag items. The staff is always friendly; a couple of them know my face when I go. That’s always nice.

My favorite of all the thrift stores in the Burnet road area — well-​organized, full of beautiful and quirky items, with a friendly staff. Last time I went their prices were higher than I remembered, but the quality of merchandise and level of curation is closer to a vintage shop than your average thrift shop. I’ve found all sorts of great things to clutter my apartment with here.

Love it!!! This place is a vintage lovers dream! They have tons of great kitschy stuff and hobby items too! I got an amazing mid century Zenith radio for $ 20, a real steal! I also saw a grandfather clock I’ll be going back for and some cutesy granny tea sets. Some people might be bothered by the clutter but to me it looks like a lot of love went into that place and all the objects have been chosen with great care.

This place is wonderful! It’s packed full of treasures without being overwhelming or messy, and you can tell that they put a lot of effort into maintaining it. There’s a huge variety of unique items whether useful or just interesting, and many items have labels that range from explanatory to quirky to endearingly honest (such as the old school roller vacuum with a note claiming that it doesn’t work very well). It supports a fantastic and often overlooked cause, and the staff was very friendly and personable. I would dig through this store daily if I could!

Man, I’ve only got good things to say about this place. It’s my favorite thrift store in Austin, by far. The people that work here are very helpful and friendly — it’s the kind of place where they’ll be on a first-​name-​basis with you once you’ve been here a couple times.
There really is a mix here of affordable clothing, furniture, and electronics, as well as some more pricey upscale designer brands and antiques. Sometimes (often), they’ll have designer brands priced quite cheaply. They always have a wonderful men’s shoe selection as well. You’ll find top-​of-​the-​line Nikes here and Italian leather dress shoes, and everything in between.
The bottom line is that if you haven’t been here before, then you need to start shopping here yesterday.

Love it. HIV-​AIDS support. You know the boys have the best taste in clothing and bric-​à-​brac. Years ago I found my awesome cast iron skillet here, as well as some lovely crystal party glasses. This is well curated and always interesting. Support community. Shop here.

This store is full of good. Artfully arranged, and better-​than-​average-​thrift quality. I have had two great pairs of pants find me here when I wasn’t even looking.
I heard a rumor they’re going to start having Sunday hours?
My only caveat: they are going to need to expand soon! There isn’t much space to spare, and the women’s clothing racks are full-​full-​full!

Here’s my favorite Austin thrift. It’s full of good surprises and more than fair prices. I like the good mix of what’s useful, what’s beautiful, what’s nostalgic and vintage. It’s a clean, well organized, and friendly place.

What a fun store! The clothes were strange, but the knick knacks, dishes, and furniture were cool! I got a couple of great items and plan to frequent this shop when I hunt for treasure!

This place has some really interesting stuff! The clothes section isn’t huge, but they have just about everything you need for your house. They even had a halloween section, complete with costumes, in the back.
Pay attention to the tags also. There is a color coding list on the wall. I got a skirt for $ 2! My roommate spent about $ 20 and got 4 t-​shirts and 2 dress shirts.
Great place that I will be going back to soon!

Found this funky little shop cruisin’ down Burnet from Mount Bonnell. My babygirl & I love digging and usually I’ll find something that will prompt a long drawn out memory to which she usually just gives me back canned responses such as ‘Uh huh’, ‘Oh really?’, ‘That’s cool.’ The joys of bein’ a mama, what can I say?
The folks who work here are approachable and the prices are okay. The place has a lot to offer considering the somewhat small size of this business (clothes, artwork, trinkets, conversation pieces and the like) Just one word of caution if you park in the front: it can get a little tricky when trying to leave (due to oncoming traffic and the view) so be careful when doing so. :)

I’m a ham radio operator who likes to build things and mess around with old electronics, so the first thing I noticed when I walked into this place was the beautiful old Hallicrafters receivers sitting against the wall on the left. I inquired about it, and they told me that the guy who stocks that section of the store is a Hallicrafters expert and restores the sets for sale. There was a restored ‘50s portable TV, a tube tester, and some other test equipment for sale as well.
The entire left wall of the store is a veritable electronics goldmine. Non-​working 1930s radio chassis go for $ 25 each. There are bins with fuse holders, tube sockets, resistors, plugs, jacks, chokes, IF transformers, and much more, and just about all the parts are 50 cents each.
I’ll definitely be back!

It’s a neat enough place, fun to walk around, browse and kill time but I have been here twice now and did not find a thing. The cloths are not worth much, the shoes are a bit too pricy but they do have a fun variety of «this and thats» and they have a huge bin of $ 1 t-​shirts. I don’t think I will be returning anytime soon.
