Second Time Around

They carry higher-​branded items in better condition compared to the Goodwill/​Salvation Army type stores, so expect overall higher prices. As is the case with consignment, the longer the item has been at the store, the lower the price will be. The staff are all very friendly. Clothing items are neatly arranged by size on the main floor, with special category items along the walls (coats, jackets, very high brand). The fitting rooms are very large and comfortable to be in. A very pleasant shopping experience overall!

I love this place! I both shop and consign there and have for several years. The ladies are friendly and the selection is great. I would agree with others that it’s not a Salvation Army-​type thrift, but higher end so do not expect rock bottom prices. I find it very reasonable. They do a good effort to keep their inventory relatively on-​trend but I probably only find 1 – 2 items every other time I shop there. I’ve scored some really great pieces though including several staple items that obviously recently came from nordstrom and a 60’s vintage dress cocktail dress in excellent condition.

One day I had some time to kill and wanted to see what she was selling. I practically had a heart attack looking at the price tags. This is still Austin — and a very long ways from Rodeo Drive.
It’s much more affordable and practical just to order whatever it is you’re looking for online.

I go here for nicer shirts, pants and bags. I always find something. They now have a frequent shopper card. The employees are nice and the place is clean and well organized. Right now they have a ton of very expensive handbags. Designer labels.
I do not sell my clothes, so I have no input on that aspect of the business.

Im not quite sure why this place has such mediocre reviews, I love it. I’ve been searching for a new consignment store since I moved here a year ago and am so glad I found this place. Service is fine, at times better than others but never terrible. The store itself is pretty well organized, clean and has a huge diverse selection. I have never came in and not purchased something. Prices are pretty reasonable, too. I love how the prices are clearly marked and tiered downward for the amount of time something has been sitting unsold. Love that they have designer labels as well as cute, quirky trendy items. So much fun!
The only 2 things I would love to see would be some kind of customer appreciation/​frequent shopper card.
As well as some kind of sale day, maybe additional 10% off on certain day of the month.
Other than that, I love this store and will continue to shop there :)

I was just thinking to myself that the frst time I went into this place and sold a few things, they really screwed things up and gave away my items that didn’t sell when I requested that I be allowed to pick them up first. I gave them another try last week and they, once again, took a few things and assured me my receipt and pick-​up information would come in an email. That was 5 days ago. My guess is unless I stay on top of it, they’ll just give my stuff away again. It’s not that I mind they donate it, I’d just like the option of picking it up. I think the place isn’t run well, is over-​priced, is weird about what they take (turning down a pair of brand new, this season, Nine West flats that had been worn 1 time saying they were «too worn.» Huh?) And yes, the place does seem to have an identity crisis. Goodwill mixed in with high– end that I would never pay that much for USED (I’ll just buy the real thing). Won’t be back to sell or look…

Mature woman upscale consignment store. I’m not really into designer… well pretty much anything. That being said the prices here were too much for my taste but understandable for the name brands that are being sold. They have a nice selection, are very clean, and orderly and the customer service was fantastic. I most likely will not be returning, just not my style and price range.

I thought the ladies who ran this place were absolutely RUDE. I was visiting Austin and decided to do the whole vintage, hippie thrift shopping thing. Thus, I decided to stop by Second Time Around. I arrived 15 minutes before the store was closing, but I’m a very fast shopper so I knew I would have been done perusing the racks before they closed. Well, the brown-​haired lady immediately yelled at me right when I walked through the door. «Excuse me, we close in 10 minutes!» In my head I thought… Well this lady can’t read time because I actually have 15! And where is my friendly customer service hello? I kindly replied to her, «I know, I am just taking a quick look.» Literally 2 minutes later… She opens her churlish mouth again, «You can come back on Monday, we open at 10!» I wanted to yell at her and tell her b* I can’t come back on Monday! Anyway, with that said I was absolutely disgusted with her poor mannerism that I stopped looking and walked out of the store. Never again will I step foot in this shi*hole. I didn’t see anything but trash anyway.

I have to disagree with the reviewer who basically wrote that this place is run by snobs. I walked here after work one day wearing a bright pink back pack and dirty tennis shoes. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I bought a pair of purple suede peep toe pumps and a scarf-​no big name labels on either, just really cute! My purchases probably totaled less than $ 40. The attendant made casual conversation with me and took the time to explain how items are discounted the longer they stay in the store. They don’t use shopping bags much any more in an effort to keep it green but she knew I was walking so she found me one.
I will definitely be back. The selection was amazing and the prices seemed really reasonable. My only complaint was that it might be a little overwhelming, with racks bursting with clothes and small aisles in between, but that seems to be the nature of the beast with consignment shops.

I found this place half a year ago. During 6 months I bought some gym clothes, a brooch and a DVF wrap dress from here at a really really good price. Last week I tried for the first time to consign my designer clothes. The ladies are quite friendly and helpful. Things went smoothly and I had a very pleasant experience. BTW, some items are really good buy such as Jimmy Choo sandals, Manolo Blahnik night shoes and Chanel mules.

Enjoyed my time at STA. The shop is very clean and things are orderly. My selections were quite readily placed in a dressing room to await me. Assistance was offered but the sales associate didn’t hover. (Don’t you hate the hoverers? I do!)
I’m used to & seek out high end consignment boutiques… I’m not a thrift shopper… so there was no sticker shock at STA for me. Actually I found the prices to be very reasonable compared to, say, River Oaks in Houston. Did not see any Chanel, Valentino or the like, which made me sad. But consignments turnover constantly so that’s not to say you’ll never see such labels in the store.
Picked up two very clean and recent frocks… one DVF, one Tory Burch… for about $ 80 each. As with many consignment shops, the prices shift into lower gears the longer a piece has been in the shop. Mine hadn’t been there very long.
Jewelry and shoes — good variety and very interesting. Not very heavy on size 7.5÷38÷38.5 but that’s always the case, isn’t it?
Dressing rooms are spacious and wonderful. Checkout was efficient, with some genuinely fun conversation. Will return.

Whether you’re looking to sell high-​end items or to buy them, this is the place for it.
Staff:
The brunette with a shorter hair-​cut has the best customer service skills hands down, but everyone else there is still friendly and helpful. I’ve come on numerous occasions with heaps of clothes and they always patiently take a look. Some days they’ll take things, other days I’m stuck lugging everything back to the car, but hey, it was worth a try right?
Sometimes even my designer items from famous labels like Gucci or Armani have been turn down, but they only buy what’s still considered fashionable in Austin, so if you have something nice and they won’t take it, just sell it on Ebay or donate it to the women’s shelter. They’re running a business and they know the Austin market, it’s just that the Austin market doesn’t know Paris and Milan, so don’t take it personally. ;)
Design:
The store is arranged very well. Everything is sorted by size and also color, so it’s very easy to find what you’re looking for.
Products:
They have everything from jeans to evening gowns, shoes, hand-​bags, and even jewelry. So if you want to find something nice on a budget, definitely give this store a try. (Since I consign here, I know the prices they buy items at, and trust me it’s really low, so you’re getting a great deal.)

Everything is on their website, so read it carefully before visiting the store because they’re very Swiss about their consigning times.
Also, like all consignment stores, your clothes are worth much less than what you paid for them originally, and you will also most likely get less $ than you would by selling them on Ebay. However, this store spares you the hassle of dealing with Ebay and whoever buys the auction. So I happily consign here. (Then again, anything that saves me a trip to the post office gets bonus points, and that might not be the case for everyone).

The clothes are all cleaned and organized nicely. They have a great selection of higher-​end merchandise. The staff was helpful. My only problem is with the price. I understand the bills need to be paid but I can’t get over what they ask for used clothing.
If you are into consignment shops, this is the place to go. I suppose I’m just a die-​hard thrift girl.

I buy 80% of my clothes at consignment shops and pretty much shop them all in the Austin area. However, this store ranks as the absolute BEST in its’ category for variety and quality of apparel, shoes, and accessories. Marian Pace, the owner, pretty much has it all: everyday retaiiers such as Gap, Express, Banana Republic to high end designers (Millie, Nanette Lepore, Theory, etc. and even Chanel and Gucci). She also has a little section in the back room that houses vintage apparel. I especially like the gradual markdown she does that is listed on the price tags. The shop’s ambience definitely has more of a «boutique feel». I do at least 70% of my
clothes shopping here.
For those of you that prefer Goodwill or Salvation Army, don’t even waste
your time as this is a classy place with a very friendly and knowledgeable
staff!

If you have been following the string with my review you will know that I had a very unsatisfactory experience during my April visit to Second TIme Around. Marian, the owner responded to my concerns. I called Marian this week and we chatted. She indicated that they were accepting consignments from established customers only, and that I could bring my items in on Saturday morning. Friday evening I cleaned and pressed a number of summer items I thought would work and took about 15 items, plus belts into the store. There were two employees in the store who were very helpful. Many of my items were selected for sale and would be reviewed again when Marian works, since as the owner she has final say. I shopped a bit and found some great deals; be sure to look at the tag because most items are reduced in price as time passes. When I was checking out, I told the two employees who I was, that I had written the negative review on Unilocal,and that with this visit I was very satisfied and that they had been very helpful. I joked that I had been ‘an undercover shopper’ and didn’t tell them who I was until the end.
The short version is that this is a great store to get high quality unique clothing at great prices. Who needs shopping malls!

I’m new to the whole consignment /​thrift store shopping experience as of late, but I really dug this place. They have a well kept, cute little store. Everything is neatly placed and all of the items are easy to find. Being a girl who appreciates organization, I smoothly cruised though the racks of clothes sorted first by size and then by color. Within one sweep my arms were full of good finds to try on. I left with an organic skirt, a BCBG velour jacket and pant set and a classy black top for $ 49. I’m not really one that seeks out brand names or just has to have the best most expensive purse. I’m more for a good bargain. As long as it looks cute, I don’t care who makes it. I found a lot of really nice stuff and I had fun too. The ladies there were super friendly and always smiling and seemed to be having a good time. I’ll definitely be back soon to search for more good deals and cute clothes! :)

I’m not much of a poster here, but I just have to give this business a shout. They are, admittedly, a little hit and miss when it comes to taking your consignments. I have had good experiences, but I’m realistic about what I bring in because most of my clothes are well-​worn and loved, and part of what I love about this store is the great selection for shopping. So yes, they may be a bit more selective than I’d like when I’m selling, but when I’m buying, I love the fact that they are selective.
Merchandise shifts frequently, and the good stuff gets bought quickly, so it’s good to check in quite a bit. And despite what others have said about the prices, when you can find a cute top there for $ 12 or shoes for $ 20 (make sure you look at the dates on the tag for the automatic reductions), and they’re more stylish and cheaper than Target — why wouldn’t you shop here?
I like this shop and haven’t been mistreated by any of the ladies who work there. I hope they do well and stick around.

Went in to sell some vintage items I have been collecting. I needed some shopping cash for my NY trip and thought wth I’ll get rid of some stuff. I brought it and was greet by a very nice lady at the counter, as she sifted through my stuff, she suggested I take a look around. I really like the stuff that’s available at this place. I love vintage shops and this one especially reminded me of the ones I visited in Soho, NY. The items are definitely more high end and are vintage treasures.
If you’re expecting thrift store prices, go elsewhere, the owner is going by their current value and judging by the condition of the items I saw, has every right to. You are not going to get something that’s been collecting moth bites through the years. I love the accessory collection and they have immense variety of gloves, shoes and purses. I love their movie room full of vintage toys and movie memorabilia. Trying to keep true to my effort of getting some extra cash to spend, I ended up buying some He-​Man toys for my husband, which he loved!
They gave me a good deal on my stuff and I was satisfied. I can’t wait to come back and look through their treasures some more!

First off, let me say I made the unwise decision to try and consign a great deal of clothing with my 2 month old son on a hot summer day. After I managed to get box and baby out of my truck and opening the front door of Second Time Around (with my teeth) I was met with the hateful glare of the clerk perched on a stool. You know that look that says, «Don’t think I’m going to peel my butt off this stool just because you’re holding a baby.» That look.
I smiled at her to no avail-​when a woman has made up her mind not to like you there is nothing to be done. She clearly had a bone to pick and a lifetime subscription to Cat Fancy. I put the box on the counter and went for the next box in my trunk. Lift box, balance sleeping baby, door, hateful glare, repeat. By the time I was on my 5^th box my hair was plastered to my face and one of my sandals had fallen off.

Say what, Mean Cat Lady? Apparently they had a limit on how many items I could bring in. It was a real treat finding that out after I spent half an hour unloading those items on her counter. I assume that while I labored she was preoccupied with more important events– like planning that tea party for Commander Whiskers and Señor Fluffy Paws.
«Tell you what» I said, «If I’ve gone over the limit just pick what looks good and I’ll take the rest of it back to my car.» She rolled her eyes and slumped over to the owner to hiss something in her ear. Directly in front of me! Classy!
The owner seemed pleasant at first, but then came over and raised an eyebrow at the clothes laid on the counter: Tahari, Gaultier, Diesel. She picked a non-​existent piece of lint off of a never-​worn Dolce and Gabbana sheath that hadn’t left my closet since I brought it back from Rome. «Hmmm…I think this is too dated for us.» Seriously, this was a pretty ballsy attempt to look unimpressed from the woman selling Claiborne Mom Jeans that 1985 didn’t even want back.
«So what will you take?» I asked. I stood there waiting for a reply, holding my youngin’ and feeling much like a migrant farm worker trying to sell an infected bushel of corn. End of story, «Lucifer and Fancy Feast» weren’t having it and I got to carry all 5 boxes back to my car while they had a hearty chuckle in the back room.
Ladies, I hope your 104 cats are not tidy. May they track litter through your homes and piss in your shoes forthwith.

Here’s the deal with this consignment boutique. As far as I can understand, Lorali’s and A Second Time Around share the same space. The store signage and the website offer no clarification for this confusion, but I think it’s one store, two names.
Anyway, Lorali’s/A Second Time Around has an ideal location at the fork of Hancock and Burnet Road. They offer consignment fashion for women and have a surprising amount of stock for the small space they occupy. Shoes are neatly displayed in the front foyer. On a good day, you can score a gently-​used pair of Manolos. Purses can be found next to shoes. The main room is filled with racks. If you have the patience, there is plenty to try on. Jeans, dresses, skirts, blouses and casual wear. Kenneth Cole, Anne Klein, Dior, Ralph, DKNY, Mossimo… just a few.
My problem with Lorali’s/ASTA (and maybe it’s a personal problem) is that they fail to achieve the identity they’ve created for themselves in their mind. What this business wants to be is a posh boutique where people don’t mind spending money because they’re scoring designer or B-​level designer duds for less than full price. What they are is a consignment shop with some overpriced clothing. Their «designer room» (a room at the back of the store with a handful of designer jeans and women’s wear), the meticulously arranged shoe displays and the dressing rooms with fabric curtain doors were all very nice. But they failed to convince me that I was anywhere but in a consignment store being unsuccessful in finding a deal. Whew. Ouch. A bit harsh, I know, but this was my impression.
To give them credit, the shop’s been around for over 30 years. So clearly some women have been dressing themselves with items from Lorali’s for years.
I probably won’t make it to Lorali’s for A Second Time Around.
