As far as bars go on West 6 this has consistently been a better one. On any given day there’s a higher chance of good crowd here then anywhere else(maybe besides kung fu but that’s a different animal). D-bags are a given. you’re on west, don’t act like you didn’t know they were gonna be there. Moving on. It’s got the indoor and outdoor split, plenty of tvs for watching sports and your usual collection of purrty bartenders. The best part though? They have the best straight up bar food in downtown IMHO. That Mac n cheese is so dang good! The specials aren’t anything to laugh at either seriously. Not alot of people have figured out yet but hopefully they will soon. Compliments to the chef for letting me enjoy bar food even when I’m not drunk out of my mind.

If you like the crowd of West 6th, then this is one of the best bars to go to as far as the crowd is concerned! It’s got an awesome outdoor patio with an indoor area as well, and the floor layout is designed well enough for you to still be able to move around even on a Saturday night when it’s super packed. Drinks are priced decently too.

A few weeks ago, I had a song request for DJ Assassin, showed him the song, and he said, «I’ll play it for you if you buy me a shot.» Done. Bought him a shot, we took it, and then he says to me, «I don’t have that song. Sorry!» So, my ass is chapped at this point. I ask to speak to the manager. He calms me down, refunds the money I spent on the shots I bought for myself and the DJ, and then gives me four shots to make up for the ordeal. #winning I told the manager I would write a friendly review about my experience dealing with him. He turned an upset customer into a happy customer, and for that, he gets five stars. Thanks again, Mr. Manager. You rocked!

Came here to watch the Cowboys v. Giants game the other day. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar, and after some time, the bartender gave us her attention. I ordered a water and asked for a menu, which she rolled her eyes at, and my boyfriend ordered a Maine Root ginger beer. She gave him an ugly look and said«is that it?» Very rudely. He told her yes, that will be it. She sneered and said«you know there’s absolutely no alcohol in that right?» Like he’s stupid. He nodded, assure her that he knew exactly what he was ordering. She scoffed loudly and got it for him. I was so turned off by her, we went inside to watch the game. Turns out the inside sucks just as much as the bartenders nasty attitude. It’s dark, cold, and drafty. There’s nowhere to sit. People just standing around awkwardly watching the tiny TVs, with no sound. Really a mess from start to finish. We took our business to Cover 3 a few blocks east.

Tuesday night tacos! I have no other exposure to this place, but their $ 4 tacos on Tuesday night are some of the best in town. Go early, cold beer, leave early, no crowds. Nice outdoor patio.

A place I love to hate. I call it «douchewood» yet still find myself perusing and enjoying the territory at the end of a fun night. There’s always space on the small dance floor inside and the staff has always been nice.

This is a west 6th bar, though it’s a little more«Austin-y» and a little less«Dallas-y» than some other bars on West. Probably the best outdoor area on West, with misters and fans usually running. Heavy A/C inside for those hot summer nights. Usually the drinks are affordable, and they have some solid DJs on they weekend. Great change of pace for West if you’ve been spending all your time at Rio or Concrete Cowboy

Such a fun atmosphere, if only the service was more attentive. They seem more focused about their friends then us. We are all servers lol come on guys get it together!!! We tip so fat. Stop worrying about your social life and make some money!!! :)

Amanda was my bartender and she was absolutely awesome!!! Some creepy dude at the bar was being super creepy but she was so sweet and made sure I got away from him and he left me alone. So sweet that she was apologizing for him, even though it was obviously and definitely not her fault that he was being creepy. An absolute doll and wonderful asset to the staff here. This bar has a super chill atmosphere and all of the bartenders and staff were very nice. Come check this place out!!!

Definitely a yopro bar with generally attractive patrons. I could see how this place can be perceived as «douchey» but I personally don’t agree with it.. Yes, it caters to the mid-20s crowd, so if that’s not something you’re looking for, take your business elsewhere. Bathrooms are decent and though it gets crowded, people are civil and considerate in weaving through groups. I like this bar a lot, and usually pop in at least once every weekend.

Gets very seedy at night, but okay during the day. The food is pretty good but a few of the bartenders somehow think they’re the top of the food chain and act bothered by your patronage. Security is a problem: I’ve witnessed a few episodes of douchebag aggression where the bouncers and bartenders«saw nothing.» On the whole it’s a good location with an outdoor vibe that’s become subject to the decline of W 6th.

Awful! drinks are overpriced, theyll let women go in their with practically nothing on, cause you know they need more girls there to make the place look more trendy but yet a guy can’t wear a tank top. It’s super packed usually so you can barely move around. Majority of people their are all snobby and are just so «awesome» and«amazing». Pretentious, overpriced, and terrible crowd. Go somewhere else, trust me. Theres far better.

Big fan of the Dogwood. Their food is very good for a West 6th Bar. We managed to walk in, on a busy day, during SXSW. Sat at a table(6 of us), greeted, promptly received menus, got our drink orders in — shortly ordered food. Food was hot and fresh(and delicious). Very impressed all things considered. Do try their Wings!

This review is about the FOODANDDRINKS, not the night life that dogwood provides on the weekend. I’ve never been there except for during the day, so I really can’t speak about that aspect. Great food. I had a very good salad the first time I went, and the second time a couple days ago I had some AMAZING fried mushrooms(I think they call them mushroom fritters). Stuffed with goat cheese and herbs, so yummy. 8 dollars for about 8 or 10 of them, so not too shabby I guess. Boyfriend got some wings and he absolutely LOVED them. I can’t do spicy food, but I tried a tiiiiny bit of his sauce and it had super good flavor along with a lot of heat. Also very big and a good value for sure! Drinks– boyfriend’s FAVORITE drink in all of Austin is the jalapeño/cucumber cocktail(forgot the name). Super spicy and really flavorful. The cocktails are super expensive, but last time I went our bartender poured very well so that made up for it partially. He was super friendly and nice also:). Definitely a pricey place to drink, but never had anything I didn’t think was really good from this place!

The bouncers here are discriminatory. If your group isn’t predominantly white, you’ll be denied entry. I visited with several of my friends(Asians) and we were told that the establishment was full. This was Friday at 9pm. That was okay, we were fine with that. What bothered me was several(White) groups came and they let them in two minutes after! Note to management: fix your bouncer situation and your earnings should multiply. :)

I’m pretty sure every guy here loves khaki shorts. Every blonde that owns a mini dress and extensions will find herself here on a Friday and Saturday night. This place is the epitome of post-grad, young gals and guys who are still thirsty for that college life. The music is awful. If I really wanted my ears to bleed while listening to the«wiggle wiggle» song or the jibberish by Pitbull, I would have resorted to the radio station that incessantly plays it. The layout makes absolutely no sense at all, I felt like I was in a maze. The bartenders even seem lost. Friends of mine who still troll here: I’ll meet ya down the street after you’ve successfully been breathed on by the many inebriated and creepy dudes. One star for the nice bartender who made my very weak whiskey + sprite.

If you’re bar hopping around west 6th street, I recommend you stop by The Dogwood. Pretty good atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights!

I love the Dogwood in Houston, and visit pretty regularly. Of course I’m partial to my city, but ours really is better, in certain ways. This location is smaller. It’s only 1 level, and the outdoor area can get pretty crowded on a Saturday night, with only 1 bar out there… but it’s a good size bar. The inside(still open concept, as in no doors) is not huge either. Only 1 bar in there, with a few more seating areas, but overall, not a lot of seating. What I did like, was the live dj inside, and ‘dance area’. There’s also another little stage, where I’m sure they have live music sometimes. I absolutely love the sweet Dixie drink from my location, and the bartender in Austin didn’t do a great rendition. It’s deep eddy sweet tea vodka… hutch in Houston does it best. Still a pretty chill spot for Austin standards.

The Dogwood must be so named for one or more of the following reasons: 1. It is built on top of a dog turd grave, which would explain why it smells like sewage and puke almost every time I’ve been there. 2. It is the site of an anthropological study where(unaware) female participants are exposed to higher than average levels of douche or douche-like male patrons. 3. Any combination of numbers 1 and 2. That’s it. It looks nice, and has a potential dance floor inside by the mini stage where you’ll be observed by zombie-like male patrons. The DJ is bearable most nights. Good luck.
